Geyser World
#1not much at the moment, just an idea of a world where geysers are very common. Any effects from that? -
Re: Geyser World
#2lotsa geothermal heat
Volcanos, fields of fumaroles where there isnt enough water to support a geyser. Lots of scalding hot lakes and such.
healing mineral springs
everything tastes like sulpher
that sorta thing
critters that like boiling hot water -

#3The land would be covered in mineral encrustations for large areas, there would probably be "badlands" where the land was totally covered in ancient geyser craters and encrusted with deposits and crystals.
Such a great amount of geothermal heat makes me think of primordial times, which is associated in my mind with lots of warm shallow seas filled with strange animals. But that might not fit the bill for a world with humans. -

#4Random thoughts on the topic:
- the Chinese supposedly used gas in bamboo pipes for cooking and stuff... meaning that here, there could be areas with a relatively high standard of living, representing the civilization. The rest of the world would be more or less unstable wilderness. City states and roaming tribes. Also, steam tech will be used.
- a monster that likes to camouflage and push or drive unsuspecting victims into the warmer waters. Likes the dinner properly cooked.
- important skills: smell in general (many types of gases, some of them are poisonous or indicate danger) and by extension taste (poisoned food is easy to get here); and tremor sense (knowing when a geyser erupts or worse). May be honed by the people, or they could have animals for it.
Really depends on how advanced you want to have the place, whether you'll have magic, etc. But there. -
Re: Geyser World
#5Their will be a great deal of rock in the area, with a thin soil layer. Nothing much will be underground.
The area will have a great deal of rocky outcroppings, hot pools, regular springs, and other such. Caves will also be an option. Old water paths and drips will carve out caves in various rock structures.
Keep in mind the monkeys in Japan that stave off the cold winters by hanging in and around hot pools. Other creatures will do the same.
Ice in the winter will be a common problem. The water will expell, but slowly freeze. It will be like icestorms.
