Hard Drive melt down
#1I tried to install the newest ubuntu to give it another shot. Grub destroyed my mbr and I couldn't recover it. Then my impatience and annoyance caused me to do a reinstall over the wrong drive (I have three in there) and before I could stop it the drive was completey corrupted. Downloaded 3 different recovery programs with no luck. Saved a lot of other crap but lost all my site and graphics files damnit! Not a super huge loss as I can download the site, but many of the graphics and files I was using really sucks that I lost.
Since I am doing a full reinstall of everything, I found the Windows XP Ultimate Edition http://www.h33t.com/details.php?id=8ecd4609b985023a3e8dcbe19ff4d605c4d138f3 which I am going to try. Might as well goof off a little if I have to start from scratch anyway and I have heard a lot about this.
Pisses me off though losing a whole drive. I am glad it wasn't my mp3 drive, THAT would have torqued me. I have spent years collecting all the crap and don't have it backed up either. Maybe I should invenst in some RAID? ;) -

#2Data recovery sucks. :| Condolences to the loss, and good luck with the new install. (And let us know how that Ultimate Edition worked. Just ignore the Vista parts.) -
Re: Hard Drive melt down
#3Ultimate Edition (by Johnny) is pretty sweet. Easy install, comes with Nero and a few other toys. Very stable so far, very pretty, and pretty darn fast all said. I have a AMD 64 3700+ with 1GB of memory and it runs like a dream. Got a little itchy for a little more eye candy and got the Aston shell replacement which adds that little extra fun to it. I will quickly get bored with it as I am a utilitarian when it comes to my desktop so if it doesn't serve a purpose or is awkward to use it never lasts long. I used SharpE before but it is in final beta stages so didn't want to mess with the older version. Used that quit a bit too. Gave up on litestep years ago. We shall see.
Downloaded a few of the websites I manage and got them workable in phpED so am back in production.
