  1. Advice Requested change

    #1
Been chatting some with MoonHunter again, and the following ideas came out:

Make the Advice Requested subs public.

In other words, make them equally visible to the regular submissions. So every update, and new comment would be shown on the respective pages.

It is little used if not forgotten, and the subs are quietly withering away, hoping for the lucky moment when someone happens to come by, and actually leaves a note. Given the public eye, one could start entire discussions about a particular topic. The category itself would of course stay, but the subs would be visible in many other places, and they could be bumped.

    So there would be:
     - 'Normal' - the regular submissions, as before
     - 'Advice Requested' - anything the public eye is supposed to see, without the pressure of "It must be perfect". Possibly a discussion as in old times.
     - "In Work" - the shadowy part; things you don't mind out there, or want a few other people to see, but not yet ready for exposure
     - "Hidden" - for the really private stuff, or really not ready stuff

    ---

    Misc. Ideas:

     - rename the whole thing to Discussion Requested - instead of "I'm stuck, can someone help me?", it's "I am working on this, come and comment!"

     - In some moments, if no Updated comment is added, add one automatically. One such moment is the first publishing from A.R. to 'normal' (when the discussion made a sub complete). Another could be the transfer to A.R. - the opening of a discussion. If brief enough, they could indicate important turning points in a sub's history, while the important option of adding them stays ("Thanks for XY for helping to complete it." or "It's not perfect, but I'm moving on, so it can go out.").

     - the Wiki option - universally editable subs
     - - add any interested people as co-authors, so they can tinker with it
     - - use a magic Everybody Co-Author Number like 1 for allowing every user to edit a sub (okay, rollback would be really useful here)

I'll buy that for a dollar!

This weekend if I can. Got a 3 day weekend so should be able to get a few things done.

Make the Advice Requested subs public.

    I agree with this!

    - rename the whole thing to Discussion Requested - instead of "I'm stuck, can someone help me?", it's "I am working on this, come and comment!"

    Do not care either way.

    - In some moments, if no Updated comment is added, add one automatically. One such moment is the first publishing from A.R. to 'normal' (when the discussion made a sub complete). Another could be the transfer to A.R. - the opening of a discussion. Don't really see the need for this myself.

    Wiki subs

    I'm good with this too!

For the updated comment, when anything goes from anything not normal to normal, the actualy submission date should change, at least that was the intention.

Once I start messing with these I will send PMs or find you in chat to clarify. Busy tonight and tomorrow.

The making things public part and renaming are important to me, the rest is secondary.

Advice Requested should be showing up everywhere now with the identification. Let me know if I missed somewhere.

I've left a comment on one, and it doesn't show it among Newest 20 Comments, or on the main page. Other than that, it seems to work.

Yep, missed that page. Should be updated. Index should work too. Thanks for spotting it manfred.

They both work. Now we've got the visibility!

Thanks for the quick update! These submissions should get more love now.

    Yes!!

Bring back the spirit of the old citadel!

(And that is what I hope to achieve with this! :) )

Also, I was reminded that they should be included in the Search, now that they are 'public'.

Need to double check and make sure most of these ideas were either implemented and/or decided against.
