Now, we had a few threads on making pdfs, started with great vigour... then evaporating when there was no exact idea on what exactly to publish.

So let's make a little list of things, that deserve it. And I know we _have_ tons of them. Let's just make the first picks first, the ones that showcase the atmosphere of our place... the really good ones. I figure we can make at least the partial work, and there have been volunteers for the rest.

Moon brought up the question of rewarding people, even the random posters. We can give them some XP, and maybe a nice label into their profile, or whatever.

The other question is copyright of course. Seeing as they are in the public domain, and stay on this website publicly available anyway, as long as we do the credit thing, we can do anything IMO.

    So... some names:

    Random Villages
    Establishments
    Neighborhoods
    Village People
Equipment (if we sort out the various lists this could make one massive package)
    Worlds and Planets

Anybody's got more ideas? Let's hear your personal favorites, and the ones you think could appeal to the gaming crowds.

    Garage Sale from Hell
    The Thirty series

The Thirty... okay, insane amount of work, but:

34 subs under that Codex makes One Thousand And Some NPCs. Now that would be something to publish.

Well, I was more suggesting doing each Thirty as it's own thingy as we get to it.  :D

The original idea of the 30 meme was to create a 32 page softback that could be easily printed and stapled and sold for like a buck next to the register at your friendly local game store.

Well, nobody says we couldn't sell those things. :)

    Blog entry:

I have spellchecked the Random Villages today. The crappy pieces will have to be sorted out eventually. Note, however, that there are more villages submissions than this one thread... maybe it could be all packed together.

    Done:
    - re-checked, and cleaned up Random Villages, applied basic formatting
    - deleted the "Village 3" type names (some could be given names anyway)

    To-Do:
    - un-link the user names (there are some other links strewn around, so be careful); OR skip the names completely, with a general thanks to all authors on the end/beginning
    - make a good format for each entry (thinking of bold name, plus smaller itallic user name; but consider the nameless ones)
    - lastly, think of the global format of the whole thing, and the separation of entries (??? two columns on a page, with minor lines separating them)
    - plus some flavor text

Need help with some kind of format eh?

Maybe we could link each name to their profile? Links work in pdfs and that would suck them to the site....?

A definite yes for the links to the other submissions. I'm not so sure about the user names to each and every village - some are pretty short, or missing a title, so it needs to be inobtrusive enough to not strike as 'advertising' too much - but I wouldn't mind it either way.

Sucking innocent readers to the site is one of the main purposes, of course. :)

    Test: blahblahblah...

Village has a nearby natural substance that comes from the ground and burns when lit. They use it only locally and try not to let the secret get out.

    Appleton MoonHunter
Appleton is nestled between rolling hills along a less inhabited stretch of The Great Road. The North Gap pass is not too far up the road, on the way to the Elven lands. It is a prosperous farming community, known for its orchards and apples. The Harvest festival is worth timing any travel along The Great Road to let you be in Appleton during the Autumn Moon.

The Inn, The Appleton Inn, is good sized and can handle two moderate sized caravans at once. It is well staffed, well maintained, and has reasonable prices. It is also the last real inn along the road until you reach the Elven Lands. (There are two way stations along the way that people can stop at).

Maybe we need to come up with a name for every blurp even if it doesn't have one. I think it is needed if it is going to be a good quick list. Even with that tiny blurb about the oil, probably still needs a name.....

To make the villages more usable is:

    name  and Village Number
Environment (artic, desert, forest, plaens, etc, plus Any)
    Size (Small, Medium, Large, Any)
Distance to Civilization (Near, Middle, Far, Any)
Requirements:  Near a river, by the capital, near the city, in a farming valley, etc)

I am playing with formats at home (but word died, so I am getting a new copy).

Now we can sort them by Environment, Size, Distance, and make those sorts into a random table.  Plus an identifying number would be nice.  That way we can make them a d100 villages.

Would love to see a good format!

Thought: now, if d100 tables were made, it would make sense to keep a PDF without printing it... with links to the villages right in the table. Computer-using GMs would surely appreaciate it.

Have full writeups as the beef of the pdf and then the last page as a set of short links that would fit on a single page for that purpose? Maybe an appendix or something.
