Discussion: New Submission Types
#1What I am talking about is not the navigation types (Big Categories) but the ones for all submissions
Normal
In work Hidden
In work Request Advice
In work Viewable
Stubs....
etc..
Are there more submission types than we have here?
One that I know of is a Setting Stub (which has a specialized function of providing text in a setting codex)
The One that I think we need is
Normal - Call to Collaboration or Normal - Community
What is this for? This is for submissions which are nice, solid, but not totally fleshed out. This makes it a normal submission, and on a list where we asking for people to post on them. This would be like what we did in the forums of old. You posted an basic idea and the community threw their ideas at it, and the community built it up.
What this would be for: A solid idea that is well rounded and explained. Something that can be a submission on its own. Then it is a call for other people to add their own ideas to it. (Note: All of these should be scrolls then as well).
So I put out A small write up for a new Intelligent Species.
I outline the species and paint in broad strokes about them. What we, other members would do, is go to the Collaboration Requested list and see what is fun to add to. (Or we might read the Submission in the new section or see it in the recently commented section). We would put our 2 cents to it, adding what riding animals the species might have, or how their magic should work, or what ever)
This would give us a mechanism to recapture the collaborative effort of the old, old, forums.
You might say, we have "In Work - Request Advice". Will this is and has become a, not ready for prime time need some nudging on place. -
Re: Discussion: New Submission Types
#2If we do come up with a wiki-style of submission, these two would go hand in hand. -
Re: Discussion: New Submission Types
#3That is what "In-work" and advice requested was suppose to do. If it needs nudging then just calling it something else isn't going to help it. I agree that without help, things don't get the attention. I think it is mostly because of the format.
No matter how hard we try, the forum was the best place for that ease of communication building a new idea and I have always regretted removing that freedom.
We got out of the habit of doing that and even though we say we can do it now, we don't...we lost it.
If we are to do something like this, then not only does it have to be a new submission type, it needs its own area that promotes and celebrates the collaborative effort of fleshing it out, not just a label. It cannot be a renaming, that is still all I see this as, it needs to be an entire new way of doing it. It needs to be on the level of settings, something big and different and obvious that makes it easy and intuitive to collaborate.
Like Chaos said, maybe something wiki'ish that allows people to edit the post itself but saves versions, just in case. -

#4/**
* Number Definitions:
* Submission Numerical Code - condition
* 0 = Deleted
* 1 = Normal Submission
* 2 = Private Sandbox - only author has access
* 3 = Flagged or Challenged
* 4 = Requires Edit
* 5 = Viewable Sandbox - "help me" Viewable in profile and through link in right column
* 6 = Awaiting Approval
* 7 = In Work (viewable only in Profile) or Personal - doesn't show up anywhere except user's profile.
* 8 = Kiss of Death (an admin only flag that puts a one week time bomb on it. If it is not updated then it automatically gets deleted. It is still available to the * author to resurrect)
* 9 = Stub - no voting / no HoH / no listing. Only shows up in author's profile and through linking.
*
*/
Will probably get rid of kiss of death and make that the wiki stub. -
Re: Discussion: New Submission Types
#5I think the Advice Requested is mutating into your 'Call to Collaboration' right now, so that wish will be granted.
(Any other states are needed?)
