Regions and Settings to start 3.0 with
#1Just to get the ball rolling on this, we should discuss what regions we will want to start the system with. Ideally, a region will have several submission types. They must not duplicate an submission category (As much as I love it, The Neighborhoods Codex must die as it duplicates the category). So things I was thinking of the following possabilities:
Inns and Taverns
Prisons and Punishments
Corvus (and all those orbs... and I promise to do the other plots and things )
Of Ink and Wisdom (Books, Scrolls, and Libraries) - Note spell books would be cross listed here and in the magic section.
High Technology (replacing our Science Fiction or Sci-Fi freetext, it is more representative. If nothing else, I propose we change all of those to this... since that is what it really is)
Of Stars and Planets (Where all our spaceship related sci-fi stuff could go).
Now some solid ones...
Of Blood and Steel (Warriors Region)
Of Gods and Religions (Clerical Region)
Of Flow and Spells (Magic Region)
Of Silence and Guile (Rogues Region)
Now some speculative ones...
Of Wilds and Beasts (Nature Specialists/ Rangers/ Druids Cross linking warning)
Of Songs and Art (Bardic/ Artistic/ Performance Cross linking warning)
Of Blood and Law (Nobles/ Political The section categories...)
Eventually some of the genre free-texts and a few others should have their own region, but we can fill these out eventually. A region should have, at least 30 submissions, in it. (Remember that some of the scrolls will be broken up into codices of stubs (Books comes to mind).
Now Settings: WooHoo!!!!!
As for Settings, we have a number of starting spots in the forums.
To qualify for their own Region...
*1) It should have about 30 submissions already or the editor should be able to easily pull 30 submissions out of the forum posts.
*2) It should be complete enough so someone can "run a campaign" in it, without having to make most of it up.
This second criteria might prevent some of our setting forge settings from making the cut, as well as some of the world freetext world. That is okay. Things should eventually grow into a Setting Page.
Now we might have to shepard some abandoned worlds over (as the authors are either not here or unwilling to move their own stuff). That is why I used the term editor in part 1. It will be the author and/or a moderator (time to earn that title people).
The ones we can all agree on, IMO....
Armorican Kingdoms
Arth
ColdForged
DeadSpace
Kerren
Now about the others....
(On a personal note: I will slowly start dumping Arth and Kerren Subs out of their Scrolls as not to flood them all in at once, once I get an idea as to when Settings section will go live.) -
Re: Regions and Settings to start 3.0 with
#2Shameless bump because I am working these issues now. -
Re: Regions and Settings to start 3.0 with
#3Good as place as any.
Working Regions. Current implementation.
Logged in users:
The site will track which Region they last viewed
If they view a Region main page (the one with the region's description and ToC) then that region is activated
While the Region is activated, the Region ToC will stay in effect as they browse the site.
So, basically, if they use the Region ToC to browse, that ToC will stay available to them as the go through the site.
The Region ToC is only active on submissions that are "in" that Region. So you can browse through the region submission using the ToC
They will have to deactivate it ("Stop browsing Region" link above Region title) and that will remove the ToC
BH does not have the ToC as they browse submissions.
BH does have a link back to the main Region ToC through the right menu though.
That is the current implentation anyway.

Re: Regions and Settings to start 3.0 with
#4I think my own World of Neyathis can qualify as a region - there are more then 30 subs associated with it :)
But the 'ready to run' part needs work though. -
Re: Regions and Settings to start 3.0 with
#5Going to put it up for you NOW!
There will be more features eventually but would like you to answer these questions:
Do you see the links on NON-region submissions giving you the ability to add them? (in left menu under sub stats)
Can you delete the current submission you are browsing if you are in the region? (link at bottom of region ToC)
Can you edit your region on the main region page?
Does the region deactivate when you click that link? (on top of region ToC)
There will be more as I continue to update the abilities of it. -
Re: Regions and Settings to start 3.0 with
#6Oh, crap. You need to add the Neyathis freetext to ALL your Neyathis submissions.
Let me know if you do this then I will create a region for it. -
Re: Regions and Settings to start 3.0 with
#7I did in fact - the World of neyathis tag returns a good number -44.
Now, I noticed my old image map - which was in a scroll entry, has been broken, and there is no provision for a image tag (or much else) in a scroll entry.
Can we use the old gallary image? If not, I can post it up anyway.

Re: Regions and Settings to start 3.0 with
#8Ahhh, "World of Neyathis"
Should be up in a few minutes after I post this.
Once I get some time I will take all the images out of the "Art" gallery and put them on flickr in our group.

Re: Regions and Settings to start 3.0 with
#9Is there a reason that comments and scrolls use a different editor then the main one? -
Re: Regions and Settings to start 3.0 with
#10Comments: Because I don't want to encourage crazy formatting. Comments should be simple and gentle.
Scrolls: For much of the same reason...although anything you can do in the main description, you can do in the others...I just don't make it easy. -
Re: Regions and Settings to start 3.0 with
#11But I waaant it easy :P

Re: Regions and Settings to start 3.0 with
