AP lit
#1Just wondering how many people had or have Ap lit -
Re: AP lit
#2Am in it, and in my humble opinion it = "teh suck." My reasoning for this is actually quite simple too, I enjoy reading books, but to critically analyze a book I have to stop enjoying it and actually think about why the writer says that this or that is happening. Waste of my time, I think. -
Re: AP lit
#3I decided that the literary critics of the world subscribe to the idea that Depressing = Art. It's not only narrow-minded, it's not an accurate picture of the world.
Think of Steinbeck's "The Pearl": The protagonists are doomed to failure. While the world is a challenging place, it is not impossible for dreams to be achieved, as that tale implies.
I disagree with literary pessimism. -

Re: AP lit
#5AP Lit to me is disectinng a cow when you'd just really like a nice steak and some A1. On one level, it is nice to know what is implied by the writer, and in my case as a writer myself certainly vital. On the other hand, ojnce you've split open a book and flayed it down to the bones, it is no longer a book to be read and enjoyed, it's been butchered and there's nothing left but to move on and remember the lesson. -
