Labyrinth Wishlist
#1The amount of time I can spend with the Citadel is slowly dwindling... and will for a few more weeks. Of course, if someone else continues to wrench their brains instead of me, I'll be only glad!
Before we return to the intern systematics, I want to add one more thing to the wishlist: non-lethal combat. I do not wonder this options is not available in most computer games, I just REALLY would like to see it working somewhere.
If you hit/kick somebody with your bare hands/feet, unless you are a personified lethal weapon (tm), only part of the damage is 'real', the rest is subdual. Many skills/feats/abilities can be added to improve your fighting ability in this regard. Among the tactical settings, it should be possible to choose between bloody and not-so-bloody fighting styles.
This may really change the feeling of the game, and bring numerous new cave-ats. It just happens sooo often that my players forget there are more ways to win besides killing.
So, do I dream, or is it possible? Anyone has anything else on his/her/its wishlist? -

#2I thought most RPG systems did incorporate some sort of non-lethal combat system, so I definitely think one should be introduced to our system. When you put this on your wishlist, do you mean that you want to see such a system incorporated, or that you'd like exclusively non-lethal combat?

#3most rpg's follow 1 of 2 forms. There are lethal, which involves weaponry and such, and non-lethal. The non-lethal takes more of a pokemon setting, but the lethal is closer to 3'rd person shooter. -
Labyrinth Wishlist
#4D&D has systems for both lethal and non-lethal combat, and I'd hardly describe it as a system for "3rd person shooter" games.

#5srry, bad choice of words. I was trying to say it is more shoot-em-up than rpg. -

#6I see what you mean, though that depends on how you play it rather than the rules themselves. It does certainly have a perfectly good system for non-lethal combat. Whether or not DMs use it is a matter of personal choice.

#7lethal combat in d&d is more fun. Non-letahl can be used strategically (such as obtaining a scout or hostage) but the main game is based on eliminating your enemies and problems. -

#8I LOATH POKEMON!
On the overall, if your RPG is too combat and action oriented, one finds themselves in a repetitive, easy, boring game like Diablo II. I find that non-lethal combat really improves a game. -

#9When you put this on your wishlist, do you mean that you want to see such a system incorporated, or that you'd like exclusively non-lethal combat?
 Not exclusively, you can be sure! I simply would like to have that option. Sure it is in most (if not all) tabletop RPGs possible, what we create (if we ever manage it  ) will be in fact a computer game.
Once we do have this option, DMs get a few possible limits to apply if needed:
- as a cleric of XXX, god of Peace, with numerous nifty abilities to disarm opponents, or otherwise nullify their combat abilities, you can seriously harm other folk only with a VERY strong reason, no such nonsense as don't-spill-blood-so-kill-them-nicely.
- on a noble quest for the holy Frail, you must stay pure, or else you fail.
- if you mark yourself as 'Good', this is a way to show it.
... of course, non-lethal combat is not a solution for everything, I simply would like to have that option from time to time.
Note: of course, there is Confusion, Paralysis, etc. How many spells do you know, that deal direct subdual damage, as opposed to spells that deal 'real' damage?
