    66) make sure to save the encounters and slip them back into the ideas section... especially once you make the idea scroll.  I thought that was the plan, but just in case.

    Roger that.

Umm, silly question, but were they really saved into Ideas?
  2. Re: BETA TESTERS REQUESTED (3 DAY countdown)

    Yep, I am pretty sure.
  3. Re: BETA TESTERS REQUESTED (3 DAY countdown)

I am not, because, well... I checked and couldn't find ANY. Not of you, not of mine, no encounters at all.
  4. Re: BETA TESTERS REQUESTED (3 DAY countdown)

    #4
    Mine are gone too
  5. Re: BETA TESTERS REQUESTED (3 DAY countdown)

Hmmmmm. They are not lost, no fear, just need to...well....find them.

I have backups beyond backups so I guess when we figure out what to do with them, they will be there.
  6. Re: BETA TESTERS REQUESTED (3 DAY countdown)

Double checked because I confused myself.

Yes, they are in there with the ideas but they are coded as encounters so don't show up. All the encounters are there in the same database though waiting for action.
  7. Re: BETA TESTERS REQUESTED (3 DAY countdown)

Well, the simplest solution would be to make a new type of Idea, 'Encounter', and display them as such. Easy, quick, no lost data that can be forgotten.

    Or...?
  8. Re: BETA TESTERS REQUESTED (3 DAY countdown)

Easy and quick to who? ;)

Easier for me to change one query to show encounters and ideas together vs. having to generate a new series of page. :)

They are already a new type of idea and marked separately which is why they don't show up right now. Personally, I am happy to let them sit for now. They were an afterthought in the first place and to do them would take me away from all the other stuff I am wanted to do to make the current realization more useable...no?

On the list, don't get me wrong, but probably bump it to v2.5 or something.

    plot code ideas?
  10. Re: BETA TESTERS REQUESTED (3 DAY countdown)

    #10
    How right you are, MoonHunter!

They can be shuffled into the type 'Plots'. That will do, and it's the category they belong to anyway. And no worry, this has no big priority (ie I will bug you with other things, Strolen ;) ), it is just good to know they are not forgotten.

You want the ideas and encounters in with all the full submissions? I don't.

The encounters, maybe there is more of an argument for that since they have a little more meat, but all we are doing if we do that is watering the down the real submissions with a ton of short hard to vote on, not much to comment on encounters. I think they are better left separated with ideas don't you?

Hey, I just remembered Encounters again for some reason! Got to ressurect them one day, too.

Well, and as for the organisational format, we could put them into a scroll, or several. Seems to work for other things, too. Plots would be the category.
  13. Re: BETA TESTERS REQUESTED (3 DAY countdown)

    #13
But then again, if we put them into scrolls, we will loose the searchability we had with the former system. Or not? They were divided into Simple and Complex; then further according to the enviroment(s) they could be in... is there a way for us to emulate this? *scratches head*
  14. Re: BETA TESTERS REQUESTED (3 DAY countdown)

    #14
The encounters are in the database with all that you speak of, they just aren't visible I don't think. I will try and resurrect them this weekend to at least make them visible so we can figure out what to do with them.
  15. Re: BETA TESTERS REQUESTED (3 DAY countdown)

As I see it, the Encounter has already been covered in the excellent spread of options available in the Plot Submission page. Most normal random encounters in a game would fall into the Crisis hook for the random battle. The Discovery hook for finding something, and I could go on to cover all of the rest of the hooks.

The Plot type has Encounter - Small, but interesting interaction that doesn't take a lot of time and does not cause any deviation from current game events. Quick game entertainment. available as the second choice.

So, it should be a matter of moving the Encounters into the Plot/Encounter section.

Ideas should remain as they are, IMHO.

Well, could we then get a peek into the encounter database? No need to create new pages, if the old ones are used it is perfect. Strolen, when you get around to it, publish here a link so we can see them. I think I'll convert at least a few.
  17. Re: BETA TESTERS REQUESTED (3 DAY countdown)

They were folded into the ideas section and filtered out. When I release them, they will be scattered abit amongst the ideas I think. Will let you know when I do it for sure, although it will probably be 3 weeks. Going to Kansas City this weekend, flying to NM on Tuesday for two weeks and then have War Training the following week.

    Bump. :)
  19. Re: BETA TESTERS REQUESTED (3 DAY countdown)

    :)

Too much stuff everywhere to keep track of. Thanks for the reminder.

    :)

There's another encounter thread born of its own. What a coincidence.
  21. Re: BETA TESTERS REQUESTED (3 DAY countdown)

    Hey, looks what's here.

You know, I am hopelessly demotivated to do anything useful the last few days. How about you make a dump of the database into a textfile or something, and send it to me. Eventually I'll get around to posting it, OK?
  22. Re: BETA TESTERS REQUESTED (3 DAY countdown)

    #22
Oh, took me a minute to figure out what you were saying.

All the ideas are actually on the site, just not shown. Need to release them through the code. There is a flag on them that hides them for now.
  23. Re: BETA TESTERS REQUESTED (3 DAY countdown)

    #23
Yeah, but when will it be is the right question? :D

I happen to have some time now, and not much of the creative juices flowing. So find the simplest way for you to get them out of the database, and I will have a little project to play with. Sounds like a deal?
  24. Re: BETA TESTERS REQUESTED (3 DAY countdown)

    #24
When you go to the idea page.

    Change the top_idea=1 to top_idea=2

They are all there, just don't know what to do with them. What are you thinking about?
  25. Re: BETA TESTERS REQUESTED (3 DAY countdown)

    #25
    What?! Is that it?

Well, that's perfectly okay for me. The solution we have planned to use, is to put them into Scrolls like Scrasamax has already started. Guess I have finally something to work upon tonight! I'll move the stuff.
  26. Re: BETA TESTERS REQUESTED (3 DAY countdown)

    #26
    Okay, I need a break.

Have posted the city, forest, and road encounters. There is another scroll necessary for mountain stuff, I'll put it up later - though assistance will be welcome. :)

Some of the rest will go into the Traps scrolls, and some I really don't know what to do with... find some alternative use, or just forget due to low quality/not fitting the encounter concept at all. Or make them Ideas.

I didn't see an Encounters type Codex to bring them all together either...unless I missed it.
  29. Re: BETA TESTERS REQUESTED (3 DAY countdown)

    #29
Actually, the Scrolls are all Plots of the Type "Encounter", and there is the freetext Random Encounter as well.

I think a Codex is not really necessary in this case. *shrugs*
  30. Re: BETA TESTERS REQUESTED (3 DAY countdown)

    #30
Oh, I thought you were having a different scroll for each location/type of encounter or something. I didn't look that hard, sorry.
  31. Re: BETA TESTERS REQUESTED (3 DAY countdown)

    We actually have...
  32. Re: Encounter thread

Posted some more old stuff into a mountain encounter list, then some things as planned into traps. Got to add an index, but it is a start.

Aside from the two below, which I'm not sure where to put, it is all posted. (Some of the overlooked ones were not up to par.)

    *phew* Almost done.

    ---

    Temporary storage:

    probably Forest  (Scras)
The PCs traveling along the road/path/trail begin to hear a low droning sound. As they approach they find their path obstructed by hundred of thousands of droning insects. Locusts swarm though the air, feasting on the grass and plants. Passage will be slowed, but the insects pose no threat to the party, aside from being crunchy and disgusting underfoot, climbing into pouches and eating exposed food goods.

This one might go in a separate scroll about caves/underground locales, call it "Found in that cave yonder..." or something.

On a location with numerous webs, and at least one big spider, there is a something inside a cocoon. It is humanoid in shape, still moving. If the heroes free it (not before they kill or drive away the spiders), they meet a ... zombie!

The poor zombie wandered the dungeon alone, and tried to kill a big living creature (= a spider). The spider used the usual treatment, even if this victim did not look tasty. The zombie can be easily killed as any other zombie. It got but several doses of spider-poison, so can be something worth if it is extracted. You can mention to a druid or ranger the fact the spider had no poison anymore.

Bump as my own reminder to put the two encounters above somewhere.

    EDIT: one moved.
