[NEED MORE VOTES]Openroleplaying.org
#1That is www.openroleplaying.org .
An open review, please.
The site is designed to promote and support indie game design, though it has tools and data that are useful for gaming in general. It has a very active forum community. The tips section is of the most use, but that is tooting my own horn. In the listing of disclosure, this is my home site. I don't own it, but I have been on the site since its first appeared 3 years ago. -
I posted it...
#2I really should vote for it. -

#3Darn right :)
Waiting for more votes and/or opinions because they can always sway me. -
Oh, you do know the number of active posters...
#4The number of active posters on ORPS are almost the same as on the Citadel?
It is not the number of people who registered, it is the number of people who are actively using the site that is important. -

#5That is absolutely true. (( and I think you got me started ))
Many of the people that register here only do it to get the automatic email updates for submissions.
I have a couple struggling forums as well so it was more of an observation about your site then a complaint. Forums don't make or break a site though, content is king. If content is stored in the forums then they become important, but only if people can find it. I am not sure my forums even qualify as a place to easily find things, but the forums is just a community bonus. The site was made to hold the submissions and that is where most of my effort is directed....at least most of the time...and when I have it.
I like the site a lot and have visited and still will visit it because there are a lot of things to see. I didn't get a warm fuzzy from it though. I have issues with the useability with portions and I think they could be set up a lot more intuitively. I also don't like the fact that there are more then a couple links that lead to blankness. It looks better to not have them at all vs. having links with nothing. Of the 5 content implied links under Community, 4 are empty or very sparse (Gameboard having 25 posts but having to go through each post with a click isn't worth the time for a non player), the only one with anything of current interest being the discussions. Gameboard and Storyboard should be combined since storyboard is nonexistant, Surveys should have a survey, and Chat is as popular as mine.
Tools and Community should probably trade places so that it is more prominant since it has stuff you can actually immediately do. Features should be bumped up a level too. Put the stuff with content at the top otherwise first time visitors may get discouraged.
Just my opinions, and they are just that, and I (obviously) can be opinionated about things when asked. I most definately do not want to rub anybody the wrong way and if that post was offensive or even a little annoying to you, I can remove it from there and put it here in our private area, or dump it all together. -
Shameless bump
#6Will someone else look at this site and vote? -

#8I did already. A long time ago. -

#9I didn't find it to be anything wonderful. It had a lot of stuff, but was poorly organized, although a way to tell which submissions were worth looking at, or even a mention of who wrote them could've fixed that. There weren't many options to choose from, and it wasn't initially apparent that they had anything other than the "Tools." Overall, I've seen much better. -

#10I agree. The site has an unfinished feel and look. The design is okay, but the site owners need to make all those resources work. A "sorry, but there is no xxxxxx" at every corner is rather disappointing. The site feels fairly dead too, nothing like Strolen's at all. -

#11When this site was first submitted, it was a thriving site full of many posts and lots of details. The code was 100% indie.
Then the barren times came.
The site owner got busy actually making money to live. The community hung on for a while, the various pieces were quite interesting. But given time, the ebb and flow of members ebbed a bit too much. Now it seems there are only five to eight posting members, and a few dozen that might lurk. Not much has happened there for a while.
(Yes he has 1200+ members, but unlike Strolen, he never purges members that have not posted EVER or not logged on in over 6 months, which would drop his number to about 100 I would guess).
Kinslayer, Rob Lang, and about two others, followed me here from there, as I back linked a few articles and comments @Strolen's there. (Heck a couple of them followed me from other sites to there... so I guess it is a natural game designer herd migration.)
So, though that was my internet home for a while, it really does not deserve a passing vote at this time.
