    Hello all,

It is my first post :)

I want your thoughts on this:
Do you feel that because your parents may have supported you when you were younger, that you "owe" it to them to support them now?

(Pay the bills they run up etc, just because they did it for you when you were younger and unable to work)

    Thanks.

    yes

It depends entirely on the sort of bills.  Of course, it's a moot point for me, since I'm barely making my own bills at the moment.

Welcome to the Citadel, by the way.

It depends on if they are vampires or not and if they have supplied you plenty of blood through the years. In that case it would only be fair for you to bring them bodies to sustain them. Not because they can't do it (they only grow stronger through the years) but because their immortal powers become so great that there should be no need for them to go out and find a meal for themselves. You should fill that need not because they are your parents, but because they can destroy you with a thought if you don't.

Now, if they are of another supernatural sort where that question would make sense on a roleplaying forum then let us know the particulars; zombie, orc, extraterrestrial, etc. Because their lifeform type is very important for us to determine the answer. Some may require sacrifices to pay the bills while others may require an assassination of some sort.

    No!
In fact, it's your duty to steal as much from your parents as possible. In fact, embezzle from them. Help them commit tax fraud and then skim off the top. Whatever it takes.
You gotta' stack G's, you know what I'm saying? I need at least 2 G's in my khakis.

In a way yeah, I guess my mother contributed to my RPG addiction in my youth, I begain playing in the "D&D is the Devil" era, my mother, well she was on the bandwagon. She was against it and I think that fueled my passion for it, I had a massive collection of 1st edition stuff, she threw it all away, so I just started over with 2nd edition. I have been collecting my old 1st edition treasures for awhile now, to include such books as; the Cthulhu mythos Deities and Demigods, 1st printings of DMG and PHB, pretty much almost all the books also, including old minis and dice. I no longer play first edition, I see 3.5e as a superior game, the feats have changed the game a great deal, made it better in my opinion.

In between all the sarcasm there is a singular answer: Yes.

    Help your parents. Period.

Now that that issue is solved: Welcome to this roleplaying forum!
    Do you roleplay?

I agree: Yes, beneath all the fun and games, I would help my parents.

BUT: If they are morons and cannot plan for the future or have drug issues, or other addictions that is ruining their life, then I would do all I can to get them into rehab, not pay their bills etc. My parents are great, and they always were for me, so I would fully support them one hundred percent! But if they were addicts or just plain stupid and lacking in foresight, I would wash my hands of them.

What would be in their ultimate best interests?

Personally, being the honorable fool I am, I will help my mother when she is older. My father is a different story, being, and Dragon put it, a drug addict, he nearly lost his second wife and my 4 year old half brother from getting caught. While I myself have experimented with weed, he took it to far. No lectures please, I realized my mistake and quit smoking. However, If your parents raised you well, and actually showed you love, Help them. Otherwise, if they made life harder than it should have been by ruining your life, I hate to say it, but screw them. But thats just MY opinion.

Call me old fashioned, but if you're alive, you owe your parents care.  Perhaps they did you wrong, or were terrible parents.  Don't let their bad habits turn into yours.  Take care of them in spite of whatever they've done to you.

    What if you are undead?

(wow, this thread got serious quick)
  13. Re: My parents

Elementary: If you are a vampire, you will turn on your family and friends, trying to make them undead too!
    The Monstrous Compendium says so!

Get your mind out of the 1980s!  Everyone knows that vampires turn their relatives into hopelessly obedient ghouls!

Besides, the Monstrous Compendium says nothing of the sort!  (I looked it up!)  It says something about minions...

Now, if you are the living child of powerful extraplanar beings, you have to decide whether their campaign to corrupt and destroy all terrestrial life has a good chance of success. If not, you have an obligation to encourage them to devise a better plan.

Wait, parents tend to be old. Old people tend to act like Zombies. What if the parents are zombies?
