Just spent all morning reading through Convergence while I was supposed to be working.  Such good times we had! :D  I hope we can get the band back together one of these days.

    "Whuddafugg?"
Echo wakes from sleep, bleary-eyed; his full beard and the layer of dust that slowly flakes off him hinting at hibernation of quite epic length.
"The sleeper has awoken... bring him coffee."
  9. Re: OOC: Back in the Day...

ok, i'm aroused again! Umm, I mean roused, not aroused. Planning the new adventure now. Very soon we will begin!

Going to post having made the assumption that I could get a few things at the last stop. Feel free to dm them out of existance, tho.
  14. Re: OOC: Back in the Day...

    #894
Assumption granted! The appreciative barkeep back in Syree's well, made sure you got whatever equipment you needed.
  15. Re: OOC: Back in the Day...

    #895
Alright: The full list is basically fire making stuff and healing stuff. Either a hot coal box or a shielded lantern, fuel for it, oil, torches for the fire kit, fresh lambs ear, peppermint, garlic, left over cloth strips and scraps from the local tailor / sewing woman, and the ilk for the herbal kit.
  16. Re: OOC: Back in the Day...

    #896
    *fresh* lamb's ear :P
  17. Re: OOC: Back in the Day...

    #897
Well, anything less simply wouldn't do.

Matare, you're back! You insector, you!

*goes off to ponder upcoming Matare thread*
  19. Re: OOC: Back in the Day...

    #899
Lamb's ear is also a plant. :p The leaves are reputedly antiseptic. It's not quite neosporin, but it does a pretty decent job, iirc from the one time I used it irl.

work-in-progress from a throwaway line by Kyrian in RP. Thanks EchoMirage  :P

The Xantippean Shrew is the single most disagreeable creature in all of creation.

As if normal shrews were not loathsome enough, the gods in all their wisdom have apparently decided to create a new relative for this fecund species. Whereas normal shrews are tiny, neurotic, and pessimistic in outlook (thus making them among the worst of familiars a fledgling wizards can possibly summon), the Xantippean shrew shares only the neurosis with its meager cousin. Meek it is not, as many a Xantippean shrew-hunter has found out over the years, and its outlook on life is quite robust. Its own life that is, the foul thing has no respect for anyone else’s, and will go the extra yard to slay anything in its path or territory. Quite a successful killer, the shrew is the size and weight of a medium dog, and possesses a vicious nature, not unlike that of the wolverine. Though surviving witnesses recount the creature’s intelligence as being trivial at best, its murderous, wanton attacks  seem to indicate some malign extra-sentience.

The Xantippean shrew has three modes of attack, (blessed as the vile vermin is). The first and perhaps most dreaded attack involves a shrill, sonic blast from the creature’s ant-eater like snout. This horrible sound has been known to shatter the eardrums of all those who have them (eardrums), and causes profuse bleeding from the ears in a twenty foot radius, not to mention severe disorientation and nausea.  This awful attack has been compared to the banshee’s keening, and is feared just as greatly by all those who face the pernicious beast.

The second involves a nasty venomous bite*. The odious shrew takes particular joy in delivering this bite to the nether regions.

    The third----

*Unlike in reptilian fangs, the shrew’s venom is found in tiny grooves along the teeth.

    You, Sir, made my day.

    Level Gains

    Kadarin- 4th mage (sorcerer w/Mouse), 2 additional HP's, 2 additional spells (1 1st, 1 2nd), better saves i think.
Adan- 3rd (fighter), 8 additional HP's, slightly better hit roll, and maybe better saves, not sure.

    A question on the side:
    > Do first edition elves sleep, or do they just meditate for an hour or two, like their 3rd Ed counterparts?
    > Any other racial stuff of note due to being elven and felid?
    > What level am I anyway? :D
  24. Re: OOC: Back in the Day...

    #904
Sorry, Echo, didn't catch this one...

    1. meditate for a bit, and less often sleep. (they like to dream)
    2. sure! 1. infravision (so i just realized that Adan's firebox is just pissin' you off, not helping in darkness haha), 2. +2 on all saves vs charm, suggest, mental stuff, 3. +1 with any sword and bow (hit and dam), and some other elvy stuff I'll look up anon.
    3. gooood question. Looking....

Everyone who's playing: Get your HP, AC, and that kind of stuff ready. :dracoliche:

I finally found something to sum up my GM'ing skills. Just substitute the word 'plot' for the word, 'project'.

The thought of knights of the Dew-Marked Rose marching to battle amuses me abundantly; some of those guys took one level of fighter, then dual-classed to Bard.
  27. Re: OOC: Back in the Day...

    #907
Not in first ed, they didn't. :p

To become a bard, a human or half-elf had to begin with very high ability scores: Strength 15+, Wisdom 15+, Dexterity 15+ and Charisma 15+, Intelligence 12+ and Constitution 10+. These daunting requirements made bards one of the rarest character classes. Bards began the game as Fighters, and after achieving 5th level (but before reaching 8th level), they had to dual-class as a thief, and after reaching 5th level as a thief (but before reaching 9th level), they had to dual-class again to Druid. Once becoming a druid, the character then progressed as a Bard.
  28. Re: OOC: Back in the Day...

    #908
Oh. Oh. I am so going to lose my geek license. Never realized a Bard was a prestige class in 1st Ed. It's an use-impaired base class in 2nd and 3rd, after all.

Err - Have my sheet showing level 3, 25 HP, and an AC of 2.

Hm. Think I see where the difference came from, under old sk00l r00ls, I have no modifiers, under new sk00l r00ls, i have a modifier of +2 on con and str. (to hit / dam) DM call, but I'd been running under the bonus beforehand.

Denhane’s Stash (including mirror of holding itself. 10'x 5' cubic space)

    1. Ring of Free Action (!)
    2. Scroll with 5 spells, 2- 3rd, 2-4th 1-5th (fireball, protection from normal missiles, wall of ice, stone-skin, monster summoning III)
    3. Ioun Stone, pink rhomboid opal, hung on a delicate silver chain (does not have to hover around your head!). +2 to constitution while worn.
    4. Scroll of Protection from Demodands 10’ radius
    5. Dagger +1, +3 vs magic-using creatures
    6. Vambraces of Defense (AC 5), usable by anyone even mages(!)
    7. Silver Key, shaped like warrior-woman holding sword *

  35. Re: OOC: Back in the Day...

    #915
I guess Adan should get the Ioun, +2 con does nothing for me. Ring of Free Action means I get more action, which is good. Thus, it would add to my happiness score.

  39. Re: OOC: Back in the Day...

Val, I thought we figured that the dagger alone to the short sword was a better deal for the fight? Still your choice, though.
