Grump guy yelling at the neighborhood kids
#1I have a question to ask, and if I am just being a grump or a killjoy, please say so. The Cavern of inane Natter has recently dominated the forum every time I hit the Unread Since Last Visit button. And why shouldn't it?
The same group of people and having the same running conversation (IE pointless internet ramblings, dangling participles, and incomplete sentances) in 6 seperate threads. While I have qualms against the Call of Cap'n Cthulu, and the Free Word Association thread is not going anywhere...

:o 2809 has run amok, rather than out since the release of said submissions.

:? Crisco Does it Again...and again and again and again. This splinter of a Greetings Traveler thread has long outlived it's point.

 See comment on Crisco...

:( Call of the Captain has gone from longer internet ramblings to word tag...

:what: I've never liked this one, but like Pop music, has been embraced by the masses

:x How do you cure the illness of being grumpy about pointless posting?
Like I said above, If I am being an ass complaining about what is in all truth a trivial matter, I apologize. But, I do feel better.

Re: Grump guy yelling at the neighborhood kids
#2Nah, you are right.
Pros:
-These threads channel the energy of less serious posters into a harmless place.
Cons:
-What do serious first time posters think when they see these? What will their impression of the Citadel be?
-They are annoying. Very annoying.
So, where do the line between "grumpy admin" and "dedicated admin" go anyway?
My opinion: Purge, purge, PURGE! -
Re: Grump guy yelling at the neighborhood kids
#3It would give me great joy to delete '2809 is coming'! Its an eyesore. PURGE IT!! -
Re: Grump guy yelling at the neighborhood kids
#4I never liked the free word association thread and the Call of Captain Cthulhu is now an institution so is untoucheable by any means currently known.
The rest, however, continue to spawn nothingness. I would rather it be contained in one thread and in turn perhaps limiting its effect to a point. At least then they will have to wait for responses in one thread vs 4+ nonesense threads in the previously improbable act of perpetual motion. I will leave the free word ass thread until it threatens to surpass Cthulhu. That CANNOT happen, ever!
I will do something at somepoint sometime after I have given it some thought.
2809 is your thread Muro. Exterminate with extreme prejudice if that is your desire.
Debating on complete annihilation to the molecular lever or a simple locking of the thread with a link to the CoC thread in the final post. -
Re: Grump guy yelling at the neighborhood kids
#5Thank you for the attempt of reducing bullshit rate on these pages. -
Re: Grump guy yelling at the neighborhood kids
#6Eh...
Well, here's something... These threads are fun. :D
But if the rest of the Powers That Be are interested in excising these amusing little tumours (at the risk of seeming like killjoys) then I don't mind.
Though I must say, my unspeakable eldritch spawn (Call of Captain-thulhu) has long grown beyond the power of any mortal man to combat or even to understand! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Whatever, I have no opinion on these threads, I hardly ever do the whole Natter thing anymore, so if we want to get rid of them, g'head -
Re: Grump guy yelling at the neighborhood kids
#7THey can be fun, but a couple of them must be sacrificed to the Earwig God of Mothballs.
There are too many of them running rampid and they *are* annoying to a point.
I will leave CoC obviously and the freetext for as long as Cthulhu wills it. Those that we stop will eventually be replaced though, that is inevitable. -

#8Whatever the great master wishes ;) -
Re: Grump guy yelling at the neighborhood kids
#9As a really grumpy guy, I kind of itch for a chance to lock those threads... Lock'em up I say! LOCK'EM UP! -
Re: Grump guy yelling at the neighborhood kids
#10As much as I HATE THOSE THREADs, I have to say... we need a place for that kind of crap. We could put up a FAQ or FORUM GUIDELINES section saying (roughly) no stupid association or running thread type games in here.... thus giving us rights to delete those... but regular ones and off topic ones (remember some of the original "Should we invade threads?"... have a place.
If you guys think that THOSE KINDS OF THREADS are too prevolent, I say POST IN THE DARN FORUM yourself. The reason they stand out is nobody is posting in the forums. (Or heck... because of the summer slow down... far fewer posts on The Citadel as well). So if you won't use the forums, they slackers and psuedo gamers will.
