1:34 pm: how about this...the Chthonian Hegemony?
1:34 pm: Hegemony is a good word.
    1:34 pm: ?
    1:34 pm: for what?
    1:35 pm: for a sub
    1:35 pm: go cave go!
1:35 pm: a whole ancient civilization ala Atlantis, but its hallmark are complicated
and seemingly timeless clockwork constructs that use elaborate keys, sliding doors, and all sorts
of moving machinery based off of gravity movement
1:36 pm: and Old Skool rocks!
1:36 pm: to sci tech for me but sounds cool.
    1:36 pm: I'm hooked already.
    1:36 pm:
    1:36 pm: wow
1:37 pm: Chthonian brings to much Chthulhu to mind.
1:37 pm: I actually agre with that...any chance of a different word preceeding
    Hegemony
1:37 pm: That Lovecraft and his consonant clusters.
1:37 pm: which isnt bad, but scoops up 1d10 investigators stil lscare me in my
    dreams
1:37 pm: its too common a "cool" word
1:37 pm: put the Chthonian key in the lock, and without a sound, a cave wall splits
into four sections, each sliding back into a casement in the wall, revealing a long corridor leading
down into the bowels of the Chthonian cache
[Ancient Gamer] 1:38 pm: Chthonians are very Cthulhu
    1:38 pm: chthonic meaning underground
1:38 pm: perhaps it can be tied into that mythos... but I think it hits to close to COC
1:38 pm: thats sounds cool..except all the Chthon
1:38 pm: dark, mysterious, and unknown
1:39 pm: I need a Starbucks... anyone want any?
    1:39 pm: I'm good, thanks.
[Ancient Gamer] 1:39 pm: Yeah, fax it to me
    1:39 pm: I love a good clockwork.
    1:39 pm: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chthonic
1:40 pm: gimme a mocha-choco-screw-that-$5-coffee..oh and in Grande please
1:40 pm: i'll take a vente frappaccino mocha
1:40 pm: familair with term...just doesnt have a great sound to it
1:40 pm: Do it with a K, Scras.
    1:41 pm: Khthonios Hegemony...
    1:41 pm: ooohh better...greek/byzantine vibe
1:41 pm: Or modify it slightly.  K'thonios.
[Ancient Gamer] 1:41 pm: Mmm, works. Some people will connect it to lovecraft, but it works
1:42 pm: I like Khthonios..it gives you that Chthulu/Chthonic definition feel, but sounds
like it could be a name of an actual greek guy at the same time...nice
    1:44 pm: K'tonian Hegemony
1:44 pm: named from the discovered K'ton Ruins near City X
    1:45 pm: Exellent.
    1:45 pm: works for me
1:46 pm: so, these K'tonians were artificers, though they did not use magic in said
constructs, everything works ala Leonardo DaVinci mechanisms
1:46 pm: K'ton....thats my favorite of the lot...nice dull but hard sound...sounds grim
    and weird
1:46 pm: and were made exceptionally durable
1:47 pm: dull, hard, grim, weird...i like these adjectives for the K'ton
1:49 pm: wow...could I throw the Quockerwodger in there? or more specifically can I
say that the clock-work creature came from K'ton?
    1:49 pm: sure
1:50 pm: cool...tehres some more lines of background completed
1:50 pm: it might have been recovered from there, or might have been built following
    K'tonian plans
    1:50 pm: wow...I'm intrigued now
1:51 pm: wow!! following K'tonian plans! yes yes!! they found some ancient
manuscripts....instructions...directions...Oh Gods! what they unwittingly unleashed!
[Ancient Gamer] 1:51 pm: Tatah Gentlemen
[The Citadel]: Ancient Gamer has left at 1:51 pm
1:51 pm: tell me more... please.... please... damnit starbucks is calling.
    1:51 pm: bye Ed
1:52 pm: So there are no surface ruins of K'tonia, all that is left is underground, which
means A. K'tonia is really really old or B. they were subterranean to begin with
1:52 pm: wow, wow, wow...I have a tie in sub for your K'ton brewing, with the small
gthic clock-tower city of Nimz, home of the Quockerwodger
    1:52 pm: sorry...go on
1:53 pm: Nimz could be a hub for K'tonian research, and could be built following
diagrams of K'tonian cities, with large towers
    1:53 pm: underground underground!
1:53 pm: K'tonians would have had elevators
1:54 pm: so they are subterranean
1:54 pm: the surface being perhaps too hostile with orcs and rampaging dragons, or
some other long term problem like violent storms, ice ages, or sometihng like that
1:55 pm: elevators... since it is underground have it work with an exaust system...
like air controlled lifts by natural air.
1:55 pm: nice...GM: " ok rolling now for wandering monsters in elevators...oh and
    which floor Thunderfoot?"....unique!
    1:55 pm: wow..Mourn getting all technical..nice
1:56 pm: ground work for LOTS of mechanical traps
1:56 pm: that sound techincal enough?
1:56 pm: but not much in the way of monster encounters
1:56 pm: underground or under water?
1:57 pm: I'm gonna go do dishes.  But I like the K'ton Hegemony already.
1:57 pm: me too (like it, NOT going to do dishes)
    1:57 pm: underground
1:57 pm: underwater you could have some strange etherial underwater creatures...
that can phase in and out...
1:57 pm: oh... ok wel lscratch that.
    1:57 pm: Til later, gents.
    1:57 pm: slow down Aqualung
    1:57 pm: brb gents
    1:57 pm: Bye D

    great vibe...the K'tonian Hegemony.

Love the LOW on creatures HIGH on mechanical weirdness!!

Clock-Works, and gears, and widgets, and other weird metallic objects, and magnets, and finger/arm/leg-chopping trap-puzzles, and steam, and advanced fantasy mechanics galore!!!!

Inventors of various nick-nacks, elevators descending to eccentric laboratories, with unfinished contraptions and half-built creatures, and.....phew !!

    Hi, there.
Here is the penguin again,

    http://newtonrocha.multiply.com/reviews/item/46

Newton 'Nitro' Rocha is a brasilian writer who published the Necropia RPG. I've just read your conversation, and noticed you used the word K'tonian Hegemony, and just in case I remembered a writer from here uses a word that matches yours: Ktonor.

I don't know if it matters, but thought you should know anyway.
It may be not important for it's spelled differently, but I have translated the intro of the article in the author's Multiply site, that tells the history of the Ages, including the Age of Ktonor.

    Here it is.

    "A História de Necropia

Necropia RPG é situado no Quarto Ciclo da história do mundo de Ereth, também chamada de A Era de Ktonor. É um mundo misterioso e conturbado, onde seus habitantes vivem entre uma guerra divina entre seres com poderes incomensuráveis."

    [translation from portuguese]
    [i made my best]

    The History of Necropia

Necropia RPG is situated into the Fourth Cicle of the history of the world of Ereth, also called the Age of Ktonor. It is a misterious and careworn world , where its inhabitants live into a divine war among beings with unmacheable powers.

    Just in case,
    See ya.

    The Hegemony
Little is known of the K'tonians, or their empire that at one point covered nearly the entire breadth of the Conitnent. it is assumed that this empire came to a sudden and violent end, and much of it was subsumed into the ocean. There are very ancient remnants of surface roads that simply lead to cliffs over the ocean, or vanish into broad rivers that were not there ages ago when the stones were laid. Other regions are pointed devoid of K'tonian artifacts, which leads many historians to speculate that these regions were once underwater, and were raised to balance the sinking of much of the K'tonian regions.

They were ornate workers of metal and stone, and created complex mechanical devices that function most of the time, even millenia after their construction. K'tonian sliding doors, key and tumbler locks, and hydraulic systems to push metal arms or gears are still functional, and have inspired many recent innovations from their study. The Spring Clock is the most modern of such innovations, being lighter than the traditional water clocks that are currently in use.

I think that K'Ton could be a quiet contempory to such luminary powers as the Han Tsarng and Jiyoing of MoB, a utilitarian foil to the decadent and cosmopolitan powers

Keep going, I want to see the rest of this...
It reminds me of something I saw in a DnD book, an underground human race (last remnant of such-and-such) who lived in a city where buildings covered the walls of the cavern. It was a fairly interesting element, for DnD...

    I want more, anyway!

    A Dead Language
K'tonian is a 100% dead language, as there is no one alive, or undead, for that matter, who remembers it. Efforts have yielded some progress in translating the cunieoform language into common dialects, but there is no one who can 'speak' k'tonian. The language itself is a very difficult one as their language was as technical as their construction with a heavily interlaced verb tense and at least one dozen conjugations.
