  1. Chatroom issues

I have opened this new thread because of emotional baggage gathering in other threads. Also the thread can be re-used, while I would gladly forget the others.

    ---

According to the last news, admins lack the rights to kick people out of the chat. Which is... not good.

We need to be able to kick people, at least for a limited amount of time. Longer bans from the chatroom should be discussed in the Admin forums.

Just a question: we could give the kick-privilege to trustworthy high-level Citadelians, imbuing them with the power of moderatorship, but ONLY if the problems in the chatroom persist.

After test: can't kick or ban people. Trying to use /kick User gives me "Warning ! Only IRC subset can be used (Type /? or /help for list of IRC commands)", so the command is not for us open. A left-click on the username in the right menu also offers no options in this regard.

    Status: not working

Now, is it possible to make private chatrooms or not? We need those, too.

From my tests with AG and Ria:
For a single user in the chatroom, it is easily possible to create and use a private chatroom. Useless, but neat

If there are more users, we have seen things like disappearing private chatrooms, and sometimes even reappearing. It is possible to enter them, if they are visible; Ria noted though, that if a private chatroom vanishes while people are inside, it jams the chat for them.

    Status: not working.

Further, people seem to be able to swear freely in the chatroom, consider censoring them.

An evil alternative to censorship (will need some coding though): those that use words from a certain set, will have their response time _slowed_, so it takes more time to display their messages, as if their connection was slow. This way they'll be a) annoyed b) able to post less junk and c) more inclined to leave as they cannot disrupt others that much. This time 'bonus' would be cummulative, so you can still curse a little without a big difference, but the more you verbaly attack others, the longer it takes to post anything. A dissipation mechanic will also have to be built in.

Another alternative would be to log the chatroom output if it gets too obnoxious (read: breaking the censoring list above too many times). Based on this, we could 'award' temporary bans (or even true bans) with some measure of legitimity. Of course, that is the Big Brother way of doing this.

But let me put it differently: I don't want to ban anyone until I can really see what he/she is doing. On the other hand, I don't want to spy on the conversations of others.

In the past, the filter has caught my own profanity to some extent.  So something is working.  I am not a fan of hte evil suggestion of slowing down their response time.  I'd much prefer to just upgrade the filter.

As for the kicking thing, we've done some tests with our normal accounts and a 0 level account.  Manfred got that IRC error line when trying to kick me (as the 0), and I got the same thing trying to kick him, as the 0.  Might want to make sure it's level specific.

And, after seeing that /kick is a Moderator specific command in the documenation, we should make sure we _are_ in fact Moderators.

Also, Ignore doesn't work. It sends a message stating that a user ignores you (or un-ignores), but it does not at all hide any of his messages. So if you really want to ignore someone , for all purposes you get only a message and still are stuck with the jerk who is likely to be even more annoying.

Try to see if you can do banning and stuff now. I did some code changes to the bridge between the forum and chat.

Oh, and a fun addition to censoring, this time in the shoutbox:

In the forums are the messages censored, but not on the main Citadel.

And so we can see our resident pirate swear in all beauty in one place, and being *-ed in another. :)
