  1. Dark-Lord Banning?

A PM I got from somebody I have never talked to before. Doesn't matter who.

First off, I love this site. Freest exhcange of fantasy idea's I have ever seen and it has given me both inspiration and feedback on a lot of my works, so thank you for bringing it all together. But the only issue I continuously run into is the instant roadblock to worthwhile brainstorming and conversation whose handle is Dark-Lord.

I can not take this guy anymore.

And frankly I know I am far from alone in this. For the past six months, longer even, ever since I have been a member of this site, he shows up and things grind to a halt. Now I realize that with the shedule I keep I have not been the most productive of submitters to the site, I claim nothing on that level, but it seems that whenever we try to get a good conversation going he shows, and things degrade immedtiately. He lies, he insults, he makes threats that he frankly had no chance of makign good on, and he blatantly ignores even the most polite overtures to please leave. I and several of my friends here on this site feel the same, and if you want I am sure we can get a petition going here. Anyways it is very late and I am sure this is not the first youve heard of it but I wanted to make a formal application to have him removed from this site in the interest of botht the sanity and the productivity of those here.

    Is he this bad?

Anybody use flashchat enough to know if we can just ban him from that? (Otherwise I can eventually figure that out)

    Or just a total ban?

    What say you?

    1. He will reappear. Unfortunately.
    2. He is that bad... If you care about his foolish little fun.
    3. I am in the chat quite often and I have seen him misbehave on several occasions. To be honest: I log out when he logs in. His BS is filtered through my anti-BS centre and for me his is non-existent.

Now I am majoring in BullShit myself, but that is purely because of a bad case of black humour. I take feedback seriously and I am willing to listen to reason and adjust myself accordingly.

    Dark Lord is not.

    I say kick him.

...and down a slippery slope we begin...

While I have no love for Dark-Lord, and he really contributes nothing to the citadel since his epic munchkin RP battles with Kalabar have become a thing of the past, it would set a precedent. We didn't ban Druid Wiking despite his Nazi-regalia and various mongerings and i think that was a good display of wisdom on our part.

DL has been part of the citadel for a long time, longer than myself. I think if we ban him for being himself it sets us up to start banning anyone we dont like.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions...

While this monumental precedent is being bandied about  :P, I would suggest to "anonymous" to simply create a private chat room for his friends, when they enter chat and DL is present. Problem solved.

I chat often. I see DL often. I have come to learn he's goofy, annoying, but most of all harmless. If you ignore him for 2 minutes, he goes away anyway. Ban DL? I actually do not care either way.

Nah. I don't buy Scras' slippery slope, but we don't really need to ban him. Besides, I haven't seen him in a looooooong time.

Hmmm... Dark-Lord, Dark-Lord... is that one of those guys, that logged in into some of the longer chats we used to have, stayed a while and logged out again without a word?

If you ignore them, they just go away.

Banning I would consider if he went far beyond being annoying, with a sample of his trashings. Otherwise, stick to ignoring or making a private chatroom. Perhaps a adding gentle word of advice if he is spotted at being obnoxious... but I don't think that will happen. Think he will be nice and quiet if there is an Admin around.

Ignore him; however let the user(s) know that we know.

Aside: taking a look at his stats, I noticed him to have 2 comments, however they weren't displayed on the respective page.

How can we ignore him when when we cannot boot or silence him? How can we ignore him when we cannot create private chatrooms anymore?

    Kick him!

I want to pave the road to hell with good intentions!

Chat room probably just needs some configuring I would imagine. I threw it up and left it. If I can, I will ban him from flashchat, there is no reason he needs to be in there when all he does is cause people to leave and disturb others.

I will try and figure out this flashchat thing and maybe that will get us somewhere.

I think 'hustla' should be booted before DL   :puke:

I just banned DL from the flashchat for a month. Opportunity knocked so I seized it. I was pretty diplomatic (so says Arminas who saw the ban message) and asked him to just take it and in a month we will give him his privilidges back. I asked him not to bring friends in as well, nicely. We shall see. Let me know if you notice anything.

I just clicked on his name and there was a ban option. Might only recognize me as an admin perhaps?

I'm not sure...I don't see this ban option.

Dark Lord's two comments were on my since deleted Picnic of the Apocalypse, and the two comments were that it was offensive to him, and that he wanted it removed. I asked around and got enough votes to remove it and thus I did.

When did this place turn into the UN anyway?

I'd say DL doesn't annoy me sufficiently to warrant banning, and he never has.  No one has complained to me about him, either.  SOmething else we need to keep in mind: DL's "Friends" have proven, time and again, that they are asses.  While I don't think it's the case, it's just possible that the complaintant is trying to make trouble for him.

    And now he's gone public.

    It deserves a reply.

That sounds wrong to me. Why is it that guys like "hustla" logs on to the chat minutes before DL and then begin to harass everyone within? How come DL always arrives so conveniently to see his "friends" or "enemies" or whatever go berserk in the chat? Coincidence? Recess? I dunno, but I do not believe in coincidence.

Why should we honour his age long attempts at sowing discord at the Citadel? He was one of the first Citadellians I met and he promised me he'd pray to his "demon friends" that they would "consume my soul". He has proven a pain over the years and together with his allies he wreaks havoc at this place.

I fully understand if no one has taken anything he has said seriously, but why should we not send him this warning? What has he done for us lately?

I believe this temporary ban was prudent.
It sends him a signal about who we are, what we expect and what we do not tolerate.

*shrug*  I never said it wasn't, I was merely doing a bit of Devil's Advocacy, since I've never interacted with him to any great extent.

I am always big into active moderatorship.

He is an ass, though he has gotten better.  He and his ignorant demonic persona were admusing at first, until you realize he really does not know squat and just wants to be "big, powerful, and scary"... and the we took that away from him.  If we ban him, will he just not come back as something else?

His friends, well they are unrepentant by all accounts. They need to go away. Admittedly, I have not seen these people in chat; and has only had DL in chat twice (when her first got on and tried to convert us to his demonic religion... which did not rapture.. go figure).  But disruptive is disruptive.

If they don't play by the rules of good conduct... neuter them.  Limit rather than remove.

If we are quick to ban, all that we will cause is people who are quick to make a new account and terrorize us under another name.  So lets apply all the other controls (ban from chat is a great thing). Leave him on the site and watch him be neutered.

Of course, even after neutering, you sometimes have to put the critter down.
