Author's Own Favorites
#1I was just cracking my knuckles getting ready to attack this one. It is fairly easy to code with a fairly complex implementation.
Then I thought, hey....why?
There is a wonderful little area at the bottom of the Profile which is a person homepage of sorts for every single person.
What I would do is make a way to add a few links and they are thrown into a list with all the other lists in there.
Why not use your homepage area to walk us through a couple of your favorite submissions, maybe link to some things that gave you inspiration...whatever.
If you are proud enough of them (and rightly so!) then you should be able to take a little time and figure out the link system (Citadel Explained) and post them up. The practice you do there can help you with your linking in the main citadel too.
Am I far off asking this? The author being able to write comments with the links will go a long way farther then my simple, restrictive (because I would probably limit it to 3 favorites), and boring list. And if all you do is a list with a "Favorites" heading, then you aren't much farther off than what I would have accomplished. -
Re: Author's Own Favorites
#2Will this deprecate todays system of authors favouriting their own stuff? Cause I think that would be good. It is an easily abused system. (As a matter of fact it has made me ignore favourites altoghether) -
Re: Author's Own Favorites
#3Never thought about it. All the favorites I have are other peoples....
Any other opinions on Favorites of any sort? What to do with them? Are they used?
My initial thought was like a bookmark list of sorts. More a short term thing as somebody was surfing you could favorite something so you wouldn't lose it. I should create the print favorites ability too. Collect some posts and print them was my thing that never got finished. Should I finish that? -
Re: Author's Own Favorites
#4Out of the four or five favorties I have only one is mine. This is a sub I liked from the beginning and go to it often to update a sentence or two to try and perfect it. If the authors intend is to keep them there under favorites for that purpose then that is great. If not, then I think it is an abused idea. -
Re: Author's Own Favorites
#5I could update it to ignore any favorites that are the authors. That way you can still bookmark your own, but it doesn't do anything to the script. -

#7But I won't.

Re: Author's Own Favorites
#8Yes, you should totally finish the collect a set of posts and print them. As for my favorites, I think that one is mine... -
Re: Author's Own Favorites
#9Favorites now only show those that are favorited by somebody other than the author.
Author can still fav their own subs of course, just not in the list.
