Some of CP's Wacky Ideas
#1Here's some ideas that I want to flesh out but which I just can't seem to get off the ground as whole posts.
If anybody wants to throw out any ideas, feel free...
And I just realized that most of these ideas are very dark, so maybe I'm going crazy. :D
The Shovel Killers- they call themselves "the Fist of Heaven". They started as a peasant's rebellion, but became something much darker and more brutal. So-called because the common peasant's spade has become their weapon (in the beginning, they rarely had good quality swords or spears, and thus made due with shovels, hammers, and axes). Over time, they have transmuted from a righteous uprising into brutal pseudo-communist terrorists and bandits. Those they capture are either forcibly indoctrinated into their organization or put through a "heavenly court", in which even common peasants (who the Fist of Heaven is ostensibly fighting for) are usually convicted of being "noble-born", "traitor to the people", or "enemy of the workers", and are executed with shovels. Primary inspiration for them was Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge in Cambodia (in fact, I was thinking of naming the leader of the Shovel Killers "Saloth Sar"... Anybody who knows much about the Khmer Rouge will get that). I would imagine that generally their god would be Shann Peheh (the God of Upraised Fists, if you recall from the City of Sparrows, he's the god of revolution, violence, and the people, basically, the Lenin of the Gods)
The Severed Head Cult- They're a secret cult. They murder people and cut off their heads, leaving the heads in public locations. They generally also scrawl their insignia nearby- a tree who's fruit is severed heads. I have no idea what their motivation or god or whatever could be. I just sort of like the idea.
Judges- sort of an amalgam of Judges from the new Final Fantasy game, Judge Dredd style judges, and Wild West lawmen, these Judges serve whatever kingdom they are part of by essentially roaming around arbitrating disputes. I would assume they also serve as interpreters of law for the kingdom, and decide on punishments for criminals. They might also serve as executioners, and may be in charge of hunting down criminals or leading parties to do so.
Hmmm... That's all for now. If anybody wants to throw out some ideas, go ahead, otherwise this'll just be storage until I can figure them out. -

#2The Sunpainter- a steampunkish idea... This is like a sort of alchemical camera- it is a box with a lens. A mirror behind the subject reflects the image into the lens, then mirrors inside the box reflect the image onto a silver plate; this plate is submerged in an alchemical solution. When the operator of the sunpainter gets the image he wants on the mirror, he removes a slat from the top of the box, so that sunlight shines in on the plate. The sunlight excites the alchemical solution, which reacts and burns the image onto the silver plate. -

#3Thuhar- holy warriors, similar to paladins. They are "ridden" by a god or spirit, making them essentially a demigod, a mortal vessel for the god's intervention in the world. As mortal vessels are too fragile to contain even a fraction of a divine being's essence, they typically die quickly as their bodies fail under the strain, but in their time they are extremely powerful. A thuhar's mortal soul is destroyed, and it's personage subsumed in preference to that of the riding god.
The image that comes to mind of a "thuhar" is (this is taken out of a Steven Erikson novel, by the way) a tribal warrior being ridden by a winter spirit... His body is coated in frost, and his touch chills and freezes water; his eyes are crimson and his body is streaked with red because the chill of his body has burst blood vessels. He wears a collection of belts, strips of cloth, and other stoppers across his abdomen to prevent the weakest portion of the host from collapsing. -

#4Antedeluvians
12:40 am: That one
12:41 am: There's this temple on a forested mountain
12:41 am: A lushly forested mountain with bamboo woods and huge trees
12:41 am: Sort of a green, shadowy place
12:41 am: The temple is this seemingly endless series of ancient stone steps
12:42 am: and at the top there is a small stone platform
12:42 am: in a clearing in the woods
12:42 am: People go there and bring an offering
12:42 am: To the Apes, of course
12:43 am: and they make their supplication of the Apes
12:43 am: Could be...
12:43 am: The Apes are oracles
12:43 am: They are "wise" in that they can dispense lessons
12:43 am: or tell the future
12:43 am: But their advice and prophecies always seem slightly... off
12:44 am: A little dark
12:44 am: Their advice is slightly unsavory
12:44 am: Or it is cold comfort- it sounds good at first, but when you think about it, it really seems
to suggest that worse is on the way
12:45 am: I'm thinking that
12:45 am: the apes are never seen
12:45 am: except for brief flashes
12:45 am: a swirl of red cape in the trees
12:45 am: the sound of a bell staff above your head
12:45 am: a hunchbacked shadow
12:45 am: They know it is Apes
12:46 am: The Apes are regarded as minor gods
12:46 am: and maybe they are minor gods... or perhaps they are only self-aware apes
12:46 am: or maybe something else entirely...
12:46 am: I prefer to leave that ambiguous
12:47 am: That's just my style, I guess
12:47 am: Haha
12:48 am: Perhaps...
12:48 am: Okey-doke
12:49 am: Woe befall he who disturbs the peace of the Wise Mountain Apes
12:49 am: Hahaha
12:49 am: Well
12:49 am: I think I will
12:50 am: Nah
12:50 am: I prefer them just to be regular apes
12:50 am: Gorilla-ish creatures
12:50 am: Wearing Buddha-esque togas
12:51 am: I always liked using apes for supernatural creatures or evil things
12:51 am: because people always associate apes with humanity
12:51 am: For instance
12:51 am: Sorcerors always have servants and familiars, right? And my sorcerors often have for
their servants
12:51 am: Neanderthal-esque sub-human apes
12:52 am: Or
12:52 am: In the City of Sparrows milieu
12:52 am: before mankind ruled the world
12:52 am: back when it was a race of stupid hairy brutes
12:52 am: the world was ruled by the Nonmen
12:52 am: Fearful beings
12:53 am: Sort of
12:53 am: Well
12:53 am: More like
12:53 am: The Nonmen kept herds of Neanderthals for slaves
12:53 am: The Nonmen are huge
12:53 am: 8 feet tall
12:53 am: Covered in hair from head to toe, with sharp nails
12:54 am: Imagine sort of a mix of Chewbacca, a werewolf, an ogre, and the mascot of the band
Disturbed
12:54 am: Yes!
12:54 am: Sort of... Evil cultists sasquatch, is how I picture the Nonmen
12:54 am: Worshipping foul elder gods in unspeakable rituals
12:55 am: and all that good stuff
12:55 am: I know
12:55 am: I was also thinking of other ape-ish hominid races
12:55 am: The White-Headed Clan is sort of like silver-furred sasquatch people
12:56 am: Yeah
12:56 am: I like the image of a huge sasquatch monster whipping a group of humans into building
a pyramid or something
12:56 am: Related to Nonmen the way humans are related to Nonmen
12:56 am: That is
12:56 am: they are all part of the same group of hairy apes
12:57 am: But the White-Headed Clansfolk are cannibal raiders
12:57 am: When men rose up against the Nonmen, the White-Headed Ones were driven out of the
basements and catacombs of Nonman society to dwell in the wilderness
12:58 am: I suppose
12:58 am: Though
12:58 am: I was thinking of an alternate White-Headed Clan
12:58 am: as being more sort of elfish nature warriors
12:59 am: Okay
12:59 am: G'night, Mur
12:59 am: elf-like, I mean
12:59 am: Y'know, wise elder folk -
Re: Some of CP's Wacky Ideas
#5CP, If your going to post up a conversation post up both sides of it. You don't need to post the other person's name, just what they say. It helps, especially when you say something like "exactly" or "I think I will." This is just like listening to someone talk on the phone. -
Re: Some of CP's Wacky Ideas
#6Well, I don't know why it did that, I intended to get Mur's side of the con.. But really I'm just saving it for my own benefit -
Re: Some of CP's Wacky Ideas
#7Sometimes the chat deletes the entries of a person that logged out. I have seen CP do this before. Either he goes to great lenghts to eradicate the other persons entries or he lose them when they log out. I dunno which it is. -
Re: Some of CP's Wacky Ideas
#8No, I'm just that egotistical... ;) -
Re: Some of CP's Wacky Ideas
#9Um captain, why are you doing this in the forum when you could keep it in a nice working format, a scroll you never release. You just work and edit each scroll post, and when it is done.. out pops a wonderful submission. -
Re: Some of CP's Wacky Ideas
#10Because I feel like it. I like the forums, I don't like the scroll format, and thus, I have this here.
