Scroll Shakeup
#1I don't like how the scrolls are working.
I think I got over the Codices and am satisfied with them for the most part, but the scrolls still bother me....
Since scrolls are such a tied portion to the King Scroll, I was thinking of somehow putting them inside the King Scroll and not be so completely seperated from them. In that way you don't just see the King, and then a bit later finally see all the ideas it spawned. Keep it all together in that top box and then let the comments be where they usually are. Probably make voting on the ideas easier and more prominant too.
The box format for the comments will go and we will have to come up with something more streamlined but I think this is a needed change...
Do you? -
Re: Scroll Shakeup
#2Yes, your reasoning is sound.
Go for it ;) -
Re: Scroll Shakeup
#3I am a bit confused on exactly how that looks/ works. But yes, the scroll responses should occur long before any comments (which should be at the bottom of both scrolls and codices) -
Re: Scroll Shakeup
#4Would like to see it first, but do try it out.
Comments to the bottom! -
Re: Scroll Shakeup
#5Well, heck, I don't know what they are going to look like either...but it will hopefully be better regardless.
I want to somehow imbed them in the top box. So it will read more like a single submission instead of an idea rest of the ideas. More seamless somehow so it flows and is more readable and understandable as a whole. Will have to see how to implement it once I get there. -
Re: Scroll Shakeup
#6New scrolls layout:
One word: No.
Reason: I do not like how the text is (not) indented. Especially the text beneath the left hand statistics box unsettles me.
Just my 2 cents. -
Re: Scroll Shakeup
#7Really, I like it because it isn't being scrunched with all that unused real estate. Shrink the stat box and you would never know it how it used to be.
Of course I always bend to the consensus.
Not sure about the justified text though, that was the one thing I just wanted to try for a bit and see how it fealt. -
Re: Scroll Shakeup
#8I do like that the comments to the scroll are now at the bottom. That would be good for codices as well.
The format change... I am kind of neutral on. I don't hate it... I just don't like it.
I do not like that you can no longer reply to a specific scroll post. Now replies will be "out of order of conversation"... thus we might as well move back into a forum. Add the reply to this post back (thus allowing you to comment on a specific scroll post) and it would work for me. -
Re: Scroll Shakeup
#9That is easy enough. I removed it mostly for shock factor to see the response.
I am not sure that there will be a point that we 'like' it, I still don't either, but is it closer to the way we would expect something like that to work?
Can we guage it that "it is better than before" at least and move from there?
Don't know how to fix it at the moment, was just going to let it settle and see what else we can come up for on it but suggestions are obviously welcome. -
Re: Scroll Shakeup
#10As written elsewhere, I really do not like what happened to the text. But on to the scroll itself:
With that in mind, I would say 'better but needs polish'.
The main post should be more separated from the scroll entries. Not the gap we had before, a thick line could be enough. The 'utility text' - author name, comment link, XP +/-, Reply+Edit links, IP should be aligned nicer. We could even put them all on one line. It wouldn't be that terribly long, since Edit can be seen only by author or mods, the IP only by us. Or make author more important on the first line, and the rest keep small on the last line. Or whatever.
Let's try:

Quick idea, though I'm not sure how it would work out: allow a title to a scroll commment. It will be bold and at the same line as the author name.

Note: the +/- XP thingy: have completely forgotten about it. Does it work? Also, the + and - link are missing on the first scroll or ordinary comments. -
Re: Scroll Shakeup
#11Now, this is an obvious bug.
Random Villages, (http://216.246.15.73/content.php?node=2014), is a Scroll as well as a Codex. After the post with the scroll itself ends, it is followed by Moon's Known World Villages thread for Arth.
And the whole scroll or Random Villages is reprinted in it. Ouch. -
Re: Scroll Shakeup
#12phew. I think that one is licked. When I moved the scroll into the show_node function I didn't reset the scroll variable so it was simply sucking it in. Probably happened on most of the multi-scrolls.
Thanks!! -
Re: Scroll Shakeup
#13Linked the name, moved the text link thing to the bottom.
Should the name be linked to the profile or is it going to the submissions good enough? From their they can click on the name and go to the profile if they wish easy enough and forces people to look at others stuff too....? -
Re: Scroll Shakeup
#14Link the name to the profile, but... the other option is also very appealing. :)
Both would work for me fine.
For a really minor edit, put at least two spaces between the username and the XP thing. Should look better. -
Re: Scroll Shakeup
#15spaces added -
Re: Scroll Shakeup
#16Link the name to the profile, definitely.
Today I wanted to take a closer look on the user 'moneymaker', that left a stupid comment in THIS post: http://216.246.15.73/content.php?node=2433
Because he didn't post anything yet, I couldn't click on any link to get into his profile... solved that by typing the name into the search box, but my laziness was hurt. :)

And that comment should go. :x
