Mathom in the Citadel
#1Ever had the feeling that a creation of yours has taken on a life of its own? Not under your control anymore? Expanding beyond your wildest wishes?
And even you cannot let it go? Feel like you have created a monster?
Mathom was supposed to be a simple personification of what happens in our lives. A neat post with a few comments, perhaps an inclusion in some game world, and that would be it. But his power and potential is much greater than this.
This Strolen guy keeps sending me ideas I find hard to refuse. I'll try to group them in this thread. Add your own random thoughts.

The Opposing God
If there is Mathom, we need his opposite: the power of creativity, the mover, the primal urge to create new stuff.
Says Strolen:
Was thinking how to incorporate it into the site as a sort of epic battle between manthom and the powers of creativity. Into the forums, levels and level titles, etc. etc.
What do you think of using that as a sort of extra theme of the Citadel. We would need the god of creativity as well to offset them and have them waging an eternal battle....blah blah. You get the point.
From this would come:
The Mathom Stat
Mathom------------------------------------|----------------------------------------Opposite
It is a Moon stat really. One post a day (every other day, whatever) will keep you balanced. Once you start slipping there can be different levels of Mathom worship. If you are a prolific poster like Moon you will go through the opposite series of levels.
Have to come up with some kind of awards for being 'good'.
Just a surface thought at the moment.
Awards for frequent posters are definitely a good idea!
A Mathom webpage
mathom.strolen.com
Full of links that go nowhere, half graphics, some partial sketches, completely missing graphics (that give you that red x), half thoughts and promises of more to come. :)
Something for the hardcore fans. Don't forget to add links to pages to take looooong to load, and then you are redirected to a server error message saying that your browser is not patient enough.
OK, maybe an overkill, but would be fun to see that.
(Too bad www.mathom.com, .net and .org are already taken. Checked it already.)
