Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#41ya, but dogs are smart too. They have adapted to humans behavior and behave in just the right way so that we get the food for them. Pretty smart there. -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#42Bzzt.
They were bred to do that, and raised from puppies to rely on humans. That they get fed without doing anything useful isn't them being smart; it's humans being morons. After all, originally man domesticated wolves to help hunt food. When that was no long needed, they bred them as guards. Then people became rich enough to start wanting 'pretty' pets. So the various breeds were born.
You can't tell me that the blank glazed-eye stare I get from most family pets is much more than the bare minimum of intellect needed to keep basic autonomous functions running.
Look into a wolf's eyes. They're smart, and it's easy to see in the look they give you in return. Predators are smart. Herd animals can be fairly bright, if wild.
Humans don't like competition, so they breed the brains out for docility. -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#43Pigs are suppose to be the smartest animals on four legs.
On the dog/wolf thing.
The results of these experiments might at first make dogs look dumb compared to the wolves. Only one dog solved the problem on the third day, and two did so on the fourth. No dog solved either puzzle on the fifth day. But the dogs really weren't being stupid - they were just being dogs. One trait humans have selected in dogs is attentiveness toward and dependence on humans. No wonder the dogs exerted little mental effort and expected the human to get the food for them!

Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#44well, I beleive most dogs are rather intelligent. My dog however is the biggest mororn in the world, but he's pretty funny, so I still like him. -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#45I have three dogs all Diffrent breeds the dog that (speaking in terms of the breed) is supposed to be smarter is dumb and the one that is supposed to be dumb is the most intellegent dog I have ever seen.. getting to the point I think that animals like humans are individualistic and therefore cannot be classified into dumb species and smart species afterall I will be the first to admit that even the humans have there idiots. -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#46:lol: ummm... what does a lemming look like any way I mean I have heard the saying but Have no clue what one looks like -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#47Small furry rodents.
Need more be said? -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#48"even the humans have their idiots".
Quite true. They do have idiots.
Most of the rest are just morons, which is worse. As a species, I refuse to count humans as sentient. They just have genetic aberrations often enough to give the appearance of intelligence to the species. -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#49"Humans thought that they were more intelligent than dolphins because humans had invented fire, the wheel, New York, war, etc, while all the daolphins had done was muck about in the water having a good time. Howver the dolphins thought they were more intelligent than humans for precisely the same reasons."
I love the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The quote may not be exactly right, but that's the general idea. And y'know, I agree with the dolphins. -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#50yes, humans regard themselves as the smartest creatures in the world, but it was us who invented the system we go by. Man was not about to admit being inferior, so we made the formula for intelligence biased towards us! -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#51Yes, but would it be possible to do other wise? create a scale to judge intellegence that would not be biased to the human race? If so what creature would then be the most itellegent? By the way Ria Love that quote! -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#52it isnt possible to develop a non-biased system. Therefor we will never know the true most intelligent creature. Mainly because every species regards intelligence in a differant way. -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#53Truth. Intelligence is subjective.
The planet does have at least one sentient race, though. (By sentient, I mean that two or more species agree that a specific race is intelligent. Intelligent is merely what one race believes of itself.)
Dolphins are sentient. Since we don't know if they regard humans as itelligent or merely as amusing animals, the only sentient race we know of for certain is that of the dolphins. -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#54actually, we believe monkeys are sentient as well, but again, we know not what they think of us. -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#55It's all relative, man.
You could say that a protozoa is more intelligent than us, because it has devoted it's life only to survival and has not complicated it's simple world with such stupid things as war, killing, weapons, death, truth, justice, the Protozoan Way, relativity, and any sort of thought.
Personally, I think that the cause of all suffering is fear.
Fear of dying, specifically. -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#56Actually, lemmings are smarter. They don't really jump off of cliffs and drown themselves in the ocean.
But IF they would... would that not make a fine example for us humans? The reasoning was, that if they run out of resources to live, they commit nicely suicide, thus saving the world for future generations of lemmings. This I call a long-term strategy par-excellence!
Follow me... the world needs to be saved. - could get a REALLY new meaning. -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#57I believe greed is the root cause of all suffering, but fear is a very close second -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#58Greed is the chief source of pain.
Fear is the chief source of stupidity.
Put them together, and you get unstoppable juggernauts rampaging across the world. -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#59yes, together those two forces have toppled entire worlds, and we are falling to them as well. -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#60You are wrong, sniperspy.
We've already fallen to them, we just haven't noticed yet. -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#61Some have fallen. Not all of us. Not as long as there are still people who really give a damn. And not as long as there are still places where people with radically opposed views can rationally discuss these veiws and still remain friends. -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#62Yes, Ria makes My point for me there.
THANK YOU -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#63You didn't have to capitolize My.
Like this place, Ria? -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#64i accidently hit caps lock, too lazy to fix! -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#65I do believe that all are born into the materialistic world have to face the inevitable conflict of greed. Some may be able to resist the attractiveness of our materialidic surroundings and others will accept it, whether they do it blindly or not is determind by their own intelligence. As for fear, yes it can and does make us do incredilbly stupid things however it also initiates our reactions to dangerous, or seemingly dangerous, situations and compels us to be more aware, as well as more cautious, with our own actions. -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#66Intresting thought. As to the whole lemming issue, I wouldn't insult any animal, using the term loosely, by comparing them to humans. I was think more along the line of lemmings from the games. -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#67i seriously dont care his a bum who needs to die a rat in a house of a rat hatter -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#68a rat hatter? what is that?
OOC: you posted so much in the first 2 days your hp is through the roof Zaptara. I did that to but got up to 7,000! -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#69hater hatter it means hates rats
ooc thanks its nice to know someone noticed -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#70that still didn't really explain anything.... -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#71yes it does, it is saying that he needs to die as a rat, in the house of someone who hates rats (IE: a rat hater) -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#72rrrrrright  -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#73Do you get it now? -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#74no it still doesn't make any sence... -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#75hmmmm, try brain swapping! I heard its all the rage! -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#76So...
We've been in Iraq a while...
Saddam stayed.
Any new opinions on this issue?
I'm all for another political discussion (translation: I love to get riled up). -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#77You must looove flame wars CaptainPenguin :)
Well, I am fairly convinced Saddam will stay in Iraq :p
How can anyone have an opinion on Iraq anyhow? It is all so fogged up because of the media, hearsay, propaganda, propaganda, and some more propaganda, that we don't know a thing about what is really happening down there anyway. Now we COULD go down have look for ourselves, but I'd rather stay home and spend some time drinking cappucchino :)
Nah, nevermind that. I am intrigued about the situation of today, because it really looks like those moslems are going to pack some punch after all. Here in europe bombs blast through our capitals and now we wait for Rome and Copenhagen to go boom. Even here in frigid norway 5% of our population are immigrants and most of those are moslems from pakistan, and those guys have a certain reputation for being extremistic. Perhaps they are going to bury some of us too, we must wait and see I guess.
Meanwhile there is no end to the rebellion/guerilla war in Iraq and the death toll recently rose above 1800 slain US soldiers. The Shiites have even become uncharacteristically defiant and has begun attacking the British in the Basra region, which is a bad omen indeed. Iran is resuming its nuclear program and Uzbekistan has ejected the US from its airbases.
Can anyone pass me the popcorn? Let us witness the events as they unfold :) (slightly sarcastic comment about the media coverage of the war and so on and so forth) -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#78There have been hints from the Pentagon that they may be laying down the structure for removing U.S. troops within two years.
Sounds good to me. -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#79First things first, we should light the flamethrower. :whoosh:
There, that's taken care of.
Is Saddam going to leave Iraq, no. No one is going to be deporting him to another country as the worst of his crimes have been propigated against his own Iraqi people. The nation of Iran is next in line because of the eight year long war between the two countries. Saddam used chemical weapons in that war also. He is going to buried in Iraq. Don't know when, but that is the way it will turn out.
I can't stand the media. All of the advertising strategems I learned in speech class are all to painfully obvious in the news media. BIG NUMBERS grab the peoples attention, shouting things about the ever increasing death toll. 1800 US servicemen is a large number. How many Iraqi have died since the invasion. How many people understand that the term "Security Contractor" means MERCENARY, you know soldiers of fortune, hired guns, etc etc etc. They don't count towards that 1800 dead.
Opposite of BIG NUMBERS is the politcal spin small numbers. Al Queda's leadership is less than 200. We Americans can take pictures of license plates from space, hit comets with space probes, which seems about like shooting a fastball out of the air with a rifle two blocks away. We're on it! thay say. Bah! Lies.
INTERACTIVE OBJECTS - you know, stamps and shiny foil stickers that you put on an envelope, they look pretty and draw you into an advertising campaign. How about the Threat Alert Level, arent all of those colors neat? I only know that one is orange and I could give a rat's ass about it all. We've elevated the threat level to fushia, thereby doing something, which makes everyone feel better. Why are we such suckers for this crap?
The BANDWAGON, a personal favorite. Do you have the coolest ring-tone on your flip phone? Man, everyone has flip phones with the new Fat Joe song polyphonic, well except the 3.6 million people in Niger, which is the 2nd most destitute country in the world. (There are those fancy numbers again, and those bastards on the news wouldn't tell me who number 1 was.) We are going to support the president, and fight the war, and piss the rest of the world off, or we are going to let the 50.5% of conservatives, republicans, and evangelicals do so. If you don't support the war, you're with the terrorists. BANDWAGON! Bullshit.
OUTRAGEOUS CLAIMS - biggest, best, strongest, new, improved, maximum strength! Come on, if it was really MAXIMUM STRENGTH aspirin, they would come 1 to a bottle cost three times as much and would be behind the counter. Find out how much it would take to kill me, then bump it down a notch, that's maximum strength. Big tanks, shock and awe, the photo clip of the bomber carpet bombing a test range in the southwest, dozens of our service men moving in really spiffy tactical maneauvers with hand signs, shouting, and lots of gunfire. I mean, how can those dirty A-Rabs stand up to the biggest economy in the world, most advanced military, most triggerhappy...
THe only path i've not seen used is sex appeal. Maybe the Abu Graib scandal was a way to sell the way to BD/SM and gays? I doubt it, but if there was a way to put a scantily clad woman in Iraq with an M-60 assault rifle gunning down terrorists in super slow motion so that the semi-comatose back in the states could watch the recoil of the muzzleblast ripple through the tissue of her breasts, again in slow motion without offending the painfully puritanical religious right, it would be on TV.
Well, there is one improvement. Before the war on terror and 9/11, we were getting hostile with the Russians over a Ballistic Missle defence system, missles to shoot down missles. Good apocalypse, and post apocalypse movies start off like that, and it only takes a few minutes for the nukes to start flying and civilization to plummet straight to hell. With the terrorists, we got a long drawn out struggle with no real borders, and no real defining moments. Take down one leader, another rises in his place. Maybe the russians are looking at us now and laughing, because they had the same problem in Afghanistan and it took them 10 years to give up that fight. We've been in this one for 2.
I think that will wrap up my little rant. I've got my opinion and my beliefs such as they are, and a big flamethrower. I'm not afraid to use any of them. -
Do you think Saddam will leave Iraq?
#80well except the 3.6 million people in Niger, which is the 2nd most destitute country in the world. (There are those fancy numbers again, and those bastards on the news wouldn't tell me who number 1 was.)
This list gives you all the numbers you need: http://hdr.undp.org/reports/global/2004/pdf/hdr04_HDI.pdf
As you can see Sierra Leone is the most destitute country in the world. I guess my pampered nation, where you can elect to permanently surf the web (sponsored by the state... It is called welfare), tops a number of those statistics.
