  1. Voting bug

    #1
Today I got connected to broadband. Before I voted today I had 2882 points.I voted 3 times so I should have got 3 extra points but nothing has happened-no extra XP for voting. What's wrong? I will have to wait until the problem is sorted out before I vote again.  :x Also I'm not sure if anything new I create will add points.

I hijack this thread for the want of well-chosen name.

Can't vote on this thread: http://www.strolen.com/content.php?node=2322

Could it be because of the Suggested submissions of mine?

Cheka, is it still happening? Didn't you have issues with this before as well?

Just keep track of your XP and PM me occassionally. I apologize, but I just don't have the time to troubleshoot this at the moment so I can't promise a quick fix.

Let me know if it continues and how a submission goes for you. I occassionally have some moments that I can manage some coding so the more details the better.

manfred, nice hijacking. It could be, but same thing about time. I put them both on my 'to do' list. Actually logging stuff in Evolution Tasks so I do have a list.

Multiple comments and votes from one user in this submission:

Not sure, maybe MoonHunter accidentaly posted it three times, and every time a vote went with it?

Now, this time it looks downright silly: :)

In an article about voting there is a comment and the associated vote from Priv8eye duplicated.

Already fixed it, deleted the duplicate comment/vote

OK, it is mentioned already elsewhere, but I thought I should mention it here:

Sometimes, users cannot vote on submissions. I had it several times.
    Example: Murometz in http://www.strolen.com/content.php?node=3013

Suspicious is, that it applies to Codices, and the users in question have always already voted on (at least) one of the linked submissions. Doesn't look like chance to me.

Now, I came on the following post, and saw two votes from valadaar - note that those are votes without a comment. So I thought, oh, it's that bug again, I can delete one vote and ignore it. Clicked Edit, then Delete Vote, and got the message of -3XP, but it was still there, including the symbol for a vote. Then I tried Edit again, chosen Delete (there was no Delete Vote option anymore), and it was removed correctly.

The point is, it is slightly illogical if deleting a vote with an empty comment leaves the comment there. More an esthetic thing, but I post it here since it is based on an existing bug of double posting.

Another somewhat estethic thing, that might be a possible issue, so it goes here.

I've deleted a vote of mine, because I wanted to change it. The vote was gone all right, but right after it I had no vote box to add a new vote. Re-loading the page, the vote box appeared, so I could update my vote. Maybe there should be a notice of some kind?

Now I may have gotten just the right viewpoint:

When I visited Space Opera's the first time, I had a vote available. There have been already a few subs linked in to that Codex, and I have voted on one of them before (it was older than the Codex, btw). After I have commented and voted on some other linked sub, that was newer than this Codex, I didn't have a vote available anymore!

Does this offer a new angle on the story, or what?

Ok, found that I reused the vote check variable on all the checks so it may have been writing over itself. I have redefined some variables and hopefully the overlap is gone now. That page, obviously, is the most complex and is fun to bug check. 4000 lines over 5 files.

Can't wait till 3.0, will be a ton more files but it will be much organized and logical. Amazing how much you learn as you go. :)

Only time will tell if there are more bugs in there.
