Validated Citadel
#1I asked a friend to take a look at our new Citadel, and he did a surprising thing: he ran the page trough a validator!
Of course there were many errors... but most of them are non-critical, because that thing does not accept XHTML, and the usual missing quotes, etc. Oh, those overly sensitive standards.
See for yourself: http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.rpgcitadel.com%2F&charset=iso-8859-1+%28Western+Europe%29&doctype=Inline
Still, there are two things I have noticed that could be corrected:
- the METAs keywords and description are empty! Rumour says search engines like meta tags, too. So we need a nice description and a lot of keywords that are characteristic for our page. MoonHunter? Anyone?
- there is no character set. We could handle one. -

#2Awesome. Always appreciate people looking out for me!
Believe it or not, that is on my list and I usually spend hours at a time messing with it when I get to it. It is an AWESOME tool and this is a great reminder. The pages WILL be 100% compliant, just need to get around to it. My goal is the XHTML 1.0 transitional, but the HTML 4.0 trans is a bit more lenient...but that is a backward step.
Once I get the validation done I am will be able to make the minimalist pages finally...although Opera does it very well with a simple click on the "Show Images" toggle, although maybe not as pretty as I will get it. :)
True, true about the metatags as well. They are set up to be dynamic so just add that to the list of things I need to get to. It is always good to get these pushes as now I will probably get to the meta-tags at a minimum this week some time.
Thanks manfred!

Re: Validated Citadel
#3And now for something completely different:
a research claims that people decide to like or not like a webpage in much less than a second:

What a luck we have such a good design. -
Re: Validated Citadel
#4I have metatags for titles and descriptions on every submission page. The description is just the summary and I have checked google and they are coming up fine. No keywords though as I can't figure out a way to automate that and having the same keywords on everypage id probably worse than letting google decide what to use. I searched a bunch of titles and they have all been in the search results as intended.
I think I should add to the beginning of the descriptions some sort of tagline though to describe the site instead of delving straight into the summary which might not make sense to many browsing search results though. Will tickle this off and on.
