  1. Prestige class - the Dracoran

I'm trying to make a unique prestige class for one of my main charaters and I'm having some problems getting the idea from my head into D&D requirements. Here's the concept thus far:

The Dracoran is a person who is chosen by a deity to preserve the existance of magic by balancing the dragon population. This could require anything from killing dragons to stopping deities bent on destroying existance (the chief concept of my campain). There is only ever one dracoran in existance at a time. A dracoran is distinghable by a pair of body length, metallic colored wings and a pair of unremovable bracers with a dragon motif.

    Ideas I'm playing with are:
The class is eternal - they can die of anything but old age
They are capable of changing into dragons (via the bracers) with some serious side-effect or with a limit per day

I am open to any suggestions but I'm chiefly trying to set down the class in a playable fashion. Any Ideas on things to do with the bracers would be welcome too.

PS. Please note that the class is intended to be extraordinarly powerful. This class was NOT intended for PCs.

Perhaps instead of only one and they are unaging, you could steal a concept from Buffy and they are reincarnated in a sense. A new Dracoran is being born all the time, or only in times of need. A dragon styled birthmark or the outline of wings on their back from the scales there could be a good indication of thier destiny.

BTW, my rule number one of an experienced DM is: Don't give yourself anything you don't want the players to have.

Your main character here is going to be quite cool and the center of attention at serveral points, obviously. The player are going to be dying to find out how they can be one too.

Maybe you could make a Player version that is much less powerful and have them be servants/ assistants to the bad ass unaging leader. One man cannot be everywhere, after all. I can't think of any reason the player version should ever be able to turn into a dragon, though. Just, Yikes!

The side effects of changing into a dragon should be dramatically intense, like severe weakness or helplessness or maybe uncontrolable rage once they change back to being a person. So they pop into a dragon, go bust something up and fight the good fight and all, then are in desperate need of rest, help or restraint. And who should happen to be around for one of these needful moments? The PC's perhaps?

I hadn't thought of a weaker player version. that has potential...
This does still leave the requirements problem. I was thinking that the sense motive skill and the ability to speak draconic would be two of the prereqs. I mean, how can you do the job if you can't tell who's lying to you or speak to the victims?

maybe turning into a dragon consumes a terrible energy and so he needs to return to some kind of holy place to meditate before turning back into a human and as their time as a dragon is limited they have to spend so much time of that time to return and if they dont get there in time they die or something terrible happens

    Seen the movie Crying Freeman?

The Freeman is a fighter for the weak, or more a strong arm of revenge against those that harm the weak and simple folk. He is tatoo-ed, a great dragon covers his body. This gives him sort of a mystical protection, that somehow protects him from most harm.

Scene: The Freeman hits upon some evil mafioso with 10+ well-trained bodyguards. He shoots most of them, no one manages to shoot him. Escapes without a scratch.

    Looks cool, eh?

The point is, he did not choose this fate. A mysterious sect is truly in control of him, hypnosis (or magic) making him do what he does. That's why he is a 'Crying' Freeman, because he cries when he is forced to kill yet another score of people. (He was formerly an artist.)

Would you truly like to become one?

I knew I seen that somewhere!

In the Dungeon Master's Guild, between the Prestige Classes, there is the Crying Freeman. May serve as an inspiration.

...As I understood it, Cryind Freeman happens to be an anime series; at least I know that several of the video stores I've been to have had several different Crying Freeman videos...

Well, why does it matter if it's an anime series?

Is there something wrong with anime?

    Anime? :?

I've seen that as a movie!

I mean real, living actors and stuff. Stunts and shooting and all that.

Didn't know it was anime before...

    Still, doesn't matter.

    Anime is neat :D
The Crying Freeman looks pretty good. I like the increases. Still need requirements for getting the class in the first place though...

I already punted the unredeemable junk. Remember Pink Grass. That was Not D&D and it make this look good.

Not everything is a 4 or better. We have some 2s hanging around.

For how many years has this sat on the bottom of the forum. For if it was so offensive, why didn't anyone bother to delete it?

And though its origins is annoying, the thread does have some redeeming ideas in it, thanks to Agar and others.

Now should this be a highly rated thread... not on your life. Does it have a use, yes.

Bug Report: And the system still seems to let you vote multiple times on them. And it still does not show the results of the poll.

It not that it isn't any of those things. The post is fine as a thread.

The thing is This is NOT a submission by any stretch of the word. This is a Discussion, a question, a query, a help me, a Flesh it out, an incomplete thought.

Being game specific just adds to the argument that it has no place in the Main Citadel with fully fleshed out, useable, generic submissions.

The Discussion might be useful as such but unless somebody compiles and rewrites it into a fully qualified actual submission of some sort, this is only a discussion that fits perfectly here in the forum.

That is all I am saying. And by delete it, I mean remove it completely from the Citadel...not the forum.

Even though the vote option is will only record one vote. I sort of wanted to leave them up and have each click update your vote. Lets you change your mind that way. After all, until the challenge vote reaches the correct number to sway either way, the author can still update it and change it. Once it is removed by the challenge they are required to and the votes are reset. But if they edit it in the meantime and it is now OK, people need to be able to change your vote.

As far as seeing who voted on it, that is an admin only option. Just click on Admin and it will show you the tally on the frontpage. I don't think there is any reason to let others know how the vote is going. It should be an unbiased vote without being swayed by others. Now, if there is a discussion on it, then that may sway them of course and is perfectly fine.

So, not a bug, a feature request I would call it. ;) But if you want to allow the changing of votes, it needs to stay.

Okay. Could the feature then let me know if a) if I have already voted on something, and b) that it tallied my vote. This way when I come back a day or three later and see something... I don't have to stretch my brain to remember if I voted on it.

Also, after cutting out the real sludge out of the idea forums (and not transfering real serious thread drift... like this one... where it went off places) lets concentrate on getting them transfered and letting the normal Strolen process take hold. Nobody said we would not be voting and messing with things after we get them there.

That is why I started the moderator discussion because I think we greatly disagree in our philosophies.

Going to reply in the moderator thread to keep that together and help us flesh out our new shared philosophy whatever that ends up being.
