New Theme Brainstorm
#1Basically I sat down after a long day today to work on the theme some more. I worked on it for a bit and then just deflated.
I want something everybody is happy with. I know Kate put some good time in it, but if you don't like it I don't want to spend 4 days on it and people don't like it. So I am with Kate. If it takes just a graphic change, fine. If we need a whole redesign, then we need to make up our mind.
So, I think we may just end up going with my current them that is already up and working. Kates can be version 2.05 or something because I am not going to put her on a deadline when she already met the one we asked.
I don't really want to move forward with this new theme until we come to some kind of a consesus.
-------------
Perhaps using some Tarot cards as image ideas.

Maybe medieval Illuminations could give us what we want (not sure about use of these)

Here is a site using a few images along the style I was thinking
http://www.fulgan.com/players/ars/ (questions link has a good looking scribe woodblock)
(just did a google look for scribe)

http://joyx.joensuu.fi/~suoniemi/ (is everywhere)

Maybe throw some old cool looking maps around in places. Maybe punctuate things using small
sections?

http://www.usm.maine.edu/~maps/exhibit1/04large.jpg
http://www.usm.maine.edu/~maps/exhibit1/ a lot of nice maps there
Our theme could be:
-Maybe go religious or the monkish order route. Go with the "gatherer of knowledge" type thing and turn the Citadel into a cult...oh, I mean order. (mostly illuminations and woodcuts)
-Go adventurer. Searching the net for good content. More guild-like in nature. (would have more of the map/ atlas/ cartouche feeling)
-Go creator/ builder. More creation bent. (Maybe pictures like a forge, quills, ancient text flowing in the background or something)
-Go Mystic. Astrology, tarot, arcane symbols.
A mix?
So, my ideas suck? Any thoughts of new/different ones. Consider this a Scroll and lets start bouncing ideas until we hit something -
New Theme Brainstorm
#2Well, somehow it always comes back to scribes to me.
So wizened scholars writing books. (+have variants, like with penguins on the Talk-like-a-pirate-day ;) )
A hot forge with a smith smithing a scroll. (too weird)
Wizened scholar "writing" into stone - we could make it also slightly humorous, a small parodic touch never hurts.
The super combo: a dragon with glasses scribbles hunched above a scroll, a quill in its claws. Humanoid scholars around do the same.
Hundreds of tiny scholars building a gigantic book with bricks and mortar.
Of mentioned themes I like the monkish order, adventurer, and especially creator/builder directions; I am all for mystery but not really for the cheap mystic stuff like astrology or tarot, that's not it.
Flowing text... generally I would be against animated pictures as the main logo. It would have to be minor movement only, very slow flowing... watch out, a hypnotic pattern. 1 of the 35 pictures will have to be a short "You love this page!"
Ok, enough weirdness. Shouldn't we move this into the Tavern? Especially if we run out of ideas? -
New Theme Brainstorm
#3Not flowing in a literal sense, maybe floating would be better. Just the faint hint of ancient scrawlings visible is more what I meant.
I want to start us out before I move it out. And, after reconsideration, I am going to go ahead and port the themes. Had a rejuvinating discussion last night. -

#4If you like scribes, you might like the following picture for inspiration. My Dad used it on the front page of his site:

New Theme Brainstorm
#5Well, all in all I must say that Kate's work is pretty good. It might not fit all our different ideas of the citadel but, on the other hand, would my ideal graphic be anything like what Moon had in mind? Would Moon's ideal graphic be anything like what manfred had in mind? (and so on)
My idea of a perfect logo might be a stylus and an inkwell or a citadel blueprint with a compass resting upon it (the drafting instrument, not the navigation instrument) -
New Theme Brainstorm
#6It seems to be a common thread among the entries of scribes, scrolls, and the writing of books. While I am an aspiring writer, this isnt why I come to the citadel. I come to the Citadel as a gamer.
As a gamer there are certain items and objects I associate with gaming.
Dice, especially the D10 (damned VtM) and the venerable D&D D6.
Storyteller's Screen
Weapons, especially Swords, maces, lances, and large axes
Magic items, pointy wizard hats, wands, and here...scrolls
mythical monsters such as dragons, unicorns and griffons
pizza and pizza boxes
2 liter sode bottles, and later beer bottles
pewter miniatures
tabletop scenery
'lucky' tokens, such as a half melted D4, lucky coins, etc.
This is just my 2 cents on the matter. -

#7Well? -
Re: New Theme Brainstorm
#8I favour image 3. Image 4 is alright, and all are okay. The Cathedral might suit some of us as we preach a lot. Hehe. Along with that joke I also wish to say that the Cathedral looks kind of unbalanced and "wrong" in some ways... Like there is a void to the right. Picture 3 looks very balanced and great and is clearly my favourite, though I hope we get to choose several colours, as we do now with the "Princess Theme". I find the dark themes dismal and discouraging. If we go for brown/grey/blue , I hope we opt for the lighter shades. -
Re: New Theme Brainstorm
#9You caught my sentiment, AG... like 3 and 4 best, 3 leading. Want lighter shades, too.
But it is 8) !
