The tagline. One of the most valuable bits of real estate is the space right next to the site ID.

"The Idea Guild" is a bad tagline. It doesn't really say anything...really. It is more like an alternate name.

A tagline is a pithy phrase that characterizes the whole enterprise, summing up what it is and what makes it great.

High expectations for a small phrase.

Been reading Steve Krug's "Don't Make Me Think" web usability book and most of it is common sense and things I practice, not to perfection, but for the most part. The tagline was one blaring thing that I don't have covered well.

    Good taglines are:
    - Clear and Informative
    - Just long enough
    - Specific and not vague
    - Convey a differentiation and a clear benefit of the site
    - Personable, lively, and sometime clever (not obscure)

Those are the guidelines he sets forth. I haven't really starting thinking hard about it, but I probably will later tonight. Throwing this out there now though for your thoughts.

((if you have a second, go break V2.0.))

    We could go more modern:

    RPG Idea Center
    Gaming Piece Info Center
    Suppliment Center

    On a less serious note
    Nexus of all Gaming Goodness

    Back on track...
    the Game Element Site
    the RPG Creativity Site

    Or we could go Illuminated...
    The Creative RPG Cabal

    Or we could go
Okay... I am running out of ideas (for now)

Oh wait, One more. And of course,
The Place Where MoonHunter Posts Way Too Much Stuff. :)

Is it wrong that I enjoy the less serious one? I will throw out some tomorrow

"Nexus of all Gaming Goodness" is rather good.

    Or how about:
    "Read. Post. Play."

    Alternately:
"The Idea Guild: Read. Post. Play."

I think brainstorming works pretty well. Mis-mashing two of your posts together we get:

    The official TagLine
*** The Online RPG Workshop. Read. Post. Play. ***

or something like that with correct punctuation. (i.e. Ask your wife)

I like this. It says what we are. It says what you should do with us. It is short. It is complete. It is descriptive. It implies action.

I also like it because you can break down the complete official tag line into parts and still be useful.

So a sigline for an authentic Strolenite could be:

Strolen's Citadel, the Online RPG Workshop
    http://www.strolens.com
    or
    Read. Post. Play @http://www.strolens.com

By having some of our somewhat serious members inserting these sig lines when they post on other boards, we generate links bringing people back to this site. You don't believe me? Ask Kinslayer.

And nobody says we have to throw away some of these other taglines. Auxillary taglines are still good.

Not sure about the Online part, I can argue both points for it, but it grows on ya fast.

    Good one!

Do we talk to each other in person? Okay once, but that is really rare. We are online. We should embrace online. We should have a roger wilco server and talk online. We should have usb coffee mugs (keeps the liquid hot). We should have [items deleted in the name of good taste].

I was thinking. Instead of chat we could have an http://www.webrpg.com/ or http://www.openrpg.com/ sever :). but that is something for way down the line.

    Back on topic.
Having a could back up tags could be happy.

Nexus of gaming goodness does grow on you. But other of these tag lines could be "official supporting taglines" as well. Strolen's The Idea Forge and Strolen's RPG Idea Center work as well.

Yes, but is that redundant was my reservation. Overembracing the fact that we are online.

From that, expect more people looking for actual games to play, even though that is not the exact intention, you can't fault anybody for expecting that when they get here. The freeform might be getting a little bigger.

If they actually stayed and played, it would be fine. They show up, post twice, and then leave. What can we do to hold on to them.

We should really push rule orriented RPG threads, rather than freeforms.

Maybe we should include that people should write up NPCs, locations, and settings from their freeforms to the main site. it is like what I told DragonRhapsody

While we are a gaming community, we actually do quite a bit of writing. Think of most of this as a place to post up pieces of a story not yet written. If you have an interesting character, location, setting, item, or plot, you can work it out here by posting it up. Our view of utility will be a bit different than a standard writers group, as characters, locations, groups, etc, written up will need to be supporting types... things that can be "placed" in the game stories of others.

The best thing about this site is it gives you a concrete way to practice descriptive writing and creative elements. If you just posts one thing every day, you will hone your writing stills and your ability to produce prose. You can also build off the ideas of others. You can also exercise your creative muscles here and find new ways to find inspiration.

    Well you get the idea.

Updated the tagline to huge print on the Citadel Explained (which might need a better link title).

What you made me realize is that I need a new introduction or site description or whatever as well. The one I have is very outdated.
