    ## Description: This mod adds an rpg-like level, hp, mp, and exp rating
    ## to a user's profile, and under their name in their posts.
    ## Level: a user's level is based on how many posts the user has made.
    ## This should be able to scale up indefinitly.
    ## HP: represents how active the user is. max hp is based off level,
    ## current hp is based on how often the user posts.
    ## MP: represnts how quickly the user posts. Max mp is based on level,
    ## each post costs mp, and mp regenerates over time.
    ## Exp: a percentage showing how many more posts the user has to make
    ## to get to the next level.

    More detailed

    /* Determine Hit Points (HP)
    *
    * Hp is based on user activity.
    * Max HP is based on the user's level, and will generally
    * be the same for all users of the same level.
    *
    * A user's current HP is based on the user's posts per day.
    * A higher post per day (ppd), the more HP they will have. A
    * user with an average PPD (set below) will have 50% of their
    * max HP. As a user goes over the average PPD, they will have
    * more HP, but the gains will decrease as the user's PPD increases.
    * This makes achieving 100% hp difficult, but not impossible.
    *
    * For users with under the average PPD, they will have HP equal
    * to 1/2 the percentage their ppd is of the average.
    * ie- a user with 2.5 ppd, and an average ppd of 5 will have
    * 25% of their max HP. This is because 2.5 is 50% of 5, and 1/2
    * of that, is 25%.
    *
    * Users who manage to post so far above the average that they have
    * more HP than their max will recieve a bonus to their max HP.

    I set it for 1.

    /* Determine MP
    *
    * MP is calculated by how long the user has been around
    * and how often they post.
    *
    * Max MP is based on level, and increases with level
    * Each post a user makes costs them mp,
    * and a user regenerates mp proportional to how
    * many days they have been registered
    *
    */

    Basically, the way I understand it. If you have a low MP that means you post a lot. If you don't post for awhile the MP generates at like 4 a day. Each post costs 2.4. So if you post more then 2 posts a day, your MP will slowly decrease. Not sure of the point of it, but it is there. If you post lots, you will have 0. If you post infrequent you will probably be maxed out.

    /* Determine EXP percentage
    *
    * Experience is determined by how far the user is away
    * from the next level. This is expressed as a percentage.
    *
    * Note, a user of level 0 has 100% experience. Making one post
    * will put them at level 1. Also, a user that is shown to have 100%
    * experience, will go up a level on their next post.
    *
    */

    I made my own MP thing since the other one doesn't really do much.

    /* Determine MP
    *
    * MP is calculated by how long the user has been around
    * and how often they post.
    *
    * Max MP is how many days the person has been a registered
    * member of the board. Every day they are a member, the MP
    * increases 1.
    * The other number is the number of days that the person has
    * met the user defined posting quota. It is not a true counting the days
    * but takes in account total posts divided by the user defined
    * quota. The actual number of days the poster has been registered
    * does not come into play, it is simply the max number.
    * So if somebody has 20 posts, the user defined quota is 2, then
    * that member will have 10 points or 10 days that they theoretically
    * made the quota. They will be maxed out if they have been a member
    * for less then 10 days and will have 10 points in every other
    * situation.
    *
    */

    Now there will at least be something to look at and relate to.

    I think it's a bit obtrusive on the posts: it takes up too much room and detracts from the content of the posted message. However, having the ratings available on the profile page would be OK.

    ephemeralstability!

    I like it.

    It is not exactly intuitive, but it is kind of fun anyway. Like the emoticons.

    I wonder if I could make it a profile thing to chose if you want it on or off.

    hmmmmmmmmmmm

    First time load before it is cached is long too. I thought it would be fun to try for a little bit.

    Profile only is easy to do.

    I am going to leave it up for a week or so and will see if it has grown on us and get some more opinions.

    I think it is kinda fun, but useless.

    There are some other mods like a point system that you can accumulate and then use those points to "buy" stuff out of a items database. Sort of pointless as well, but might be fun. If you have time check the link at the bottom, go to community (their forums) and look at the MOD discussions. There is a whole section for them. We can use any of them and I like to play with them occasionally since they are pretty easy to install.

    ...I do believe I might be a bug, given that each post I place is boosting my max HP to ever higher levels. Not that I'm complaining - dragons, particularly ancient ones, oughta have high HP totals, but this is getting silly...

    Your hit points go up and up, because you just joint so you have a really high "posts per day"

    I checked before I wrote this and you profile says 16 posts per day, I think mine is more like .63 post per day.

    In other words you hit points will go down unless you can maintain 16 or so posts per day.

    This will be somewhat ironic, then...

    There is more to it, Strolen posted a description of how it works at the beginning of this thread.

    I believe you level, posts per day, and number of posts all affect you HP.
  10. RPG Mod. You likey?

    #10
    As I understood it:

    Level determines maximum HP.
    Posts per day, compared to average, determines current HP.
    The % of the average posts per day of the forum is the % of your max HP that you have.
  11. RPG Mod. You likey?

    I am going for the ancient dragon thought. Your HP reflect your character.

    hehehe

    Really have no idea. Found this mod a few days ago and loaded it up. I am still learning what it is doing.

    I already rewrote the MP part and I was thinking about rewriting the HP thing too, but I think the system that is in place is ok with some exceptions.

    I have the average posts per day set at 1, so if your posts per day are way up there, you get lots of bonuses to your HP turning you into, not just a dragon, but an ancient dragon. You can smote everybody on this board. What you say goes as far as I am concerned, I am no match for you.

    If you have any ideas on how to make the HP make more sense, I am all ears.

    Funny for a while, distracting most of the time.

    It could need some switch to turn off... would keep it though, just to have a look here and there, how much HPs and MPs I have :wink:

    Thus I wield mystical energies to summon words of great wisdom!
    (question is: why does that magic fail so often? :roll: )

    I will mess with a smaller version, less obtrusive and more subtle. Then if we still think it is too much we can leave it in the profile only.

    Still testing phase for it after all.

    All the pretty colors disappeared :(

    I like the colorful version better.

    At the risk of making the Ancient Dragons HP even higher, I think you should lower the average posts per day to .5 or so. Other than yourself and the newby (with an average PPD of 20) the rest of us do not meet the 1 post per day and all that. Damn jobs interfering with my posting (of course I am at work now)
  16. RPG Mod. You likey?

    Maybe average ppd should be defined by the users or whatever, sort of like our titles.
  17. RPG Mod. You likey?

    #17
    Heh.

    ...I always end up like this when first joining someplace with interesting topics. An average day just leave a variable number of posts for me - somewhere between five and a dozen, normally.

    ...As for a suggestion: I'd see if there was a way to cap HP based on level. Like putting it at a max of something like 50 HP per levels.
  18. RPG Mod. You likey?

    #18
    I do prefer this new, toned down version, but I still think it's unnecessary to have it on every post, as it does still take up lots of room. I think the little fires under your name are enough as an indicator of your posting prowess.

    ephemeralstability!

    HP, does have a 'max' per level, but when you are a super poster, that max is given bonuses depending on your level of posting. That, to me, is a problem as you all seem to agree and I am trying to figure it out.

    Each PPD is universal, I am not sure of a way to make it per person without adding to the database which is not a good thing in the forum. Bad for future upgrades.

    I will continue to try and make everybody happy with it and we will see what happens.

    I can try reducing it on a different day. Going to be late for work at this rate. :oops:

    This oughta be really amusing, then...

    At this rate, I'll have a higher max HP than Godzilla.

    That's okay. Every Citadel needs a resident dragon. Preferable a tough one. :mrgreen:

    ...Grrr. Rawr.

    ...Anybody know where I can stash my hoard?
  23. RPG Mod. You likey?

    Yeah, the .5 thing isn't a good idea. Those that do post one a day, or end up averaging one a day will be maxed pretty much forever. And that is no fun, we want the stats to move occasionally.

    So 1 is fine for now, as it is I will be maxed for a LONG time, as will our resident dragon.

    Teriffic...... Now only to run an SQL server to install the whole junk on, but my provider will not let me. I can not even use frontpage extensions and upload my pages from frontpage.

    Not that I realy care, as my site is currently just html and that works just fine. (Oke, I threw in some javascripting as well).

    At any rate, the RPG mod system or whatever seems fine to me, not that I understand the scores, but I figured that does not matter too much either.

    There were people who thought the stats meant something? I didnt even realize that until now. Oh well, im still new and dont post much so my stats will be forever low. Nut it dosent matter so, Hurrah! But seriously, i think it would be a grand idea if Item, Plot, Ect, submissions somehow helped figure your stats. If its possible... :?: :?: :?:

    I think you actually missed most of it. We had an honest-to-God epidemic at one point
  36. RPG Mod. You likey?

    #36
    Yes, it was real ugly for awhile.

    I may make something on the new site but that will probably be once it is up and running.

    Figuring the stats for everyone to add the main site would add some overhead, but as Moonhunter drills in, what is another .00023 seconds of processing time.

    I may make a script to do that though.
