While I like the Phantom, this is such a sad write up that it is a slap to such a character.

Everything from this very short post came straight from the movie...plagiarism, anyone?

At least come up with your own ideas.

For heaven's sake. I hate, hate, hate whoever posted this. The Phantom of the Opera is my favourite musical of all, the recent film a work of art, and the music - the sound of the High Heavens. I damn you for sullying it with your intrepid poxy paws! Burn. Burn in hell.
    The Phantom Submitted: 05.20.05 08:11 [ EDIT ]

Burn in hell? nobody ever said that to me....thats really harsh i am crying now thanks a lot did anyone ever tell you to watch what u say to people there is just a slight chance it may be mean... if u are really unhappy with me being called the phantom (for the simple reason that i am a big fan) then i'll change it you only had to ask...i'm a nice person really

Indeed, we should all follow Captain Penguin's example.

This character clearly shows a level of inspiration not often seen around these parts. Personally, I'm gob-smacked.

Okay new person... We don't care what you call yourself. You can do the whole Phantom routine. That is not what bothers us.

    Lets give you the basics.

    1) Short is pointless. It shows that you don't care about the character enough to actually describe and explain it. It also shows you don't care about your reader enough to actually do a passible job.

    2) Spelling, Grammar, and Punctuation. You have a word processor on your computer, cut the entry, paste it there, run the spell/ grammar check, cut and paste it back. Again, it shows you don't care enough about your entry to do more than a sloven job. NOTE: Even if English is not your primary language, you should try not to make mistakes.

    3) You need to write up the character in such a way that it explains who the character is (more than the name, what their essence is), where and when the character is from (its history), what it is doing and WHY(its motivations/ goals -both in the past and the future). Even if you don't "spell it all out", you should loosely imply the ideas.

    4) Remember the golden standard: "If your character is not as complete or described as a character in a good fantasy fiction book, then it is not complete. Work on it until it meets that standard.

    5) Read what "we" think of as a complete character and try to emulate that level of description.

(sorry about the mispelling. However, that was one word in a 200+ word post vs the six in the 80 word post.)
    MoonHunter Submitted: 05.20.05 10:01 [ EDIT ]

Also "Respect the Phantom of the Opera ....he rox" He "rocks". Rox is not even good slang. I respect the Phantom that is why I am "dissing" your post. Your post shows us you OBVIOUSLY don't respect the Phantom. It is shoddy and unworthy of such a great work. So edit and improve your post so it is WORTHY of the PHANTOM.

That’s it, I’m sticking up for the Phantom! MoonHunter: When you're criticising people for spelling, you can at least spell PUNCTUATION right. Why don’t YOU run the spell check? -.-' I'm leaving this site now. At least people on other sites like this have the decency to try and say something positive about the work of others. I’m disgusted. I’m leaving this site!
    Mourngrymn Submitted: 05.20.05 15:37 [ EDIT ]

Um... most of it is sarcasm...

But everyone else is right. If you intend to write something, write it. Don't put three sentences down and call that complete. I don't even call three paragraphs complete for my work. Content, content, content. Anything posted, or writen, worth a grain a salt worth of reading has enough content in it to hold it's reader. When the content written is only 81 words long, with 1/3 of them being the simple a, the, and, and I... not worth putting it up.

Also, to plagerize is bad form, bad taste, and bad luck. And don't knock me for spelling as I don't spell check rants, complaints, or comments. Only content. Thanks.
    Panther Submitted: 05.20.05 16:08 [ EDIT ]

I wasn't going to knock you for spelling. O.O
    EchoMirage Submitted: 05.20.05 17:19 [ EDIT ]

Now. I have not been nice. Intentionally so. While I am not one of the most ardent contributors to this site, I have to speak out loud:

When the regulars bother to spend 2+ hours on a decent post to make it worth reading, and honestly try to come up with original thought, I am appalled and insulted by someone who stumbles in, does not bother to check what the site is about and just dumps worthless content on the site.

I've seen lots of bad posts, some of them mildly amusing. But when something is too much, it is too much. Plagiarized from the very beginning, by someone so obviously unfit to understand it, the Phantom of the Opera had to face an attempt to stain its beauty.
    MoonHunter Submitted: 05.20.05 17:38 [ EDIT ]

Panther... I am sorry that you feel you need to leave.

We try to say nice things. Except for some of the dripping sarcasm and the over the top ironic comments, we are providing helpful comments. We want him to improve his post. We want his post to be worthy of the Phantom of the Opera. Since it isn't, it is drawing a lot of flack.

As for punctuation and spelling, we don't require pefection. We do require you strive to be close (and if you make an error, you eventually fix it - like I did). You have to remember that many of the people who visit here have English as a second language. Why native speakers can puzzle out what a given word should mean, it completely confuses non native speakers. In fact, of the 18 or so Authentic Strolenites, over 1/3 of them are not native English speakers (not they you would notice, as their English skills are better than most). Until Strolen finds a way to attach a checker to the post entries (and we are trying), we will keep working on spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Now Panther, if you had read some of the five and four star rated NPC posts, you would of seen what our standards are set to. These standards are why this site is as respected in the RPG community as it is. We don't accept sub-standard posts. We don't accept incomplete posts. We work with people to improve their posts. If they won't or don't improve their posts, they are normally removed. We don't like to do that, because it is admitting defeat. But, we will.

Check out the 5 and 4 star posts.

Note: Corvus is not a single post, but about 19+ posts all associated with it. That is why that post is so highly rated.

What I love about the Phantom of the Opera, is the way he moves people, but this is closer to a soap opera :p

    Critics:
    Be honest and polite

    Submitters:
Respect the opinions of others. Submitting to this site means you are requesting feedback. If that feedback is not what you expected, listen and improve. If you cannot be bothered with polishing and improving your submission, follow my lead and do not post until you are able to do so.

And... Industry standard characters (drow assassins, sorcerors, dwarven fighters, etc) ought to be something else to score well on this board.
