#1When the poker spammer struck again, we were supposed to reply to you. Well, I did not have the "special rights" granted to post in the news and announcement section, so I post here instead:
The "Poker Spammer" posted in two falcon staff main site entries:
Thief of the Queen and Journey of Magic. That spammer seems serious about posting on this site :o.

#6Oh, the dreaded "registered only" debate.
Yes it is annoying but it is really worth it to force people to register to add a comment. There are many (me one) that requires a site to allow anonymous (ok, not necessarily anonymous, but the ability to post without being forced to sign in on yet another website) for me to get interested. If I find a new site, have a comment but am not sure I want to actually join, I LOVE the ability to put in my comment. Then I slowly come back and perhaps eventually join. I know others that have joined are the same way.
Anonymous has its downfall, BUT I think there is good in it as well. The forum went register only due to scripts that auto spam, I don't think anybody is going to take the time to code a script to just spam the citadel. So, really, until it becomes unmanageable I am going to still allow anonymous.
The debate remains open, but the spam is only an annoyance at the moment, not a hinderance. -

#8I guess it is only a matter of time before the invaders force me to close the gates. I dreaded having a 'registered only' site. I too much enjoy the feeling of freedom I have by allowing anonymous posters.
It was torture for me to make the forums registered only, but the fact that scripts can be easily made for such a popular (phpbb) board forced me to close that gate.
I feel like the place will lose something if I force registration. It was so nice..... -

Have I ever told you how much I HATE spam? So I did a little google search routine and found an exact match of the text patterns here scattered around the web. Seems like this particular menace is an experienced little pest, already tormenting lots of websites.
What if BH comments had to identify a 3 letter picture to be submitted? (Like they do on yahoo, msn and all those other big websites). You type the message, you get a 3 letter picture, you verify that you are human and you submit your opinion.
You don't have to register for a short comment, it is not that annoying, it stops the bots and it encourage people to log in if they have already registered. -

Having to choose one from the many possible pink deer sites on net have truely become a difficult task these days. Select pink deer http://pinkdeer-sixth.p7.org.uk pink deer and the choice will be obvious. pink deer is just the right thing for you.

#14OK, added a rudimentary anti-robot spamming executioner (ARSE) to try and stop it. If they figure that one out then I will move the confirm code to the database instead of passing it through the form. If they figure that out, and it is a human putting in the crap, then we have a new problem to deal with.
