New kid on da block
#1Wut up peoplez? Alright see my first intentions on this site was to come out and show everyone a character and everyone would instantly love, well since that basically blew up in my face, I'm gonna try a new approach: Hi I'm Loki anyone have any tips for a newcomer with a great imagination? -

#2Hey Loki. Thread carefully when at the boobytrapped citadel, it is filled with jaded gamers ;)
Some things that I have learned:
1: A character/item/plot ought to be something new, or at least a very, very, very interesting twist on a cliche
2: A character/item/plot ought to have a long, detailed description
3: A character/item/plot cannot hope to achieve full score (a clean 5 from all voters), unless it has a humoristic theme, which usually please every taste, every Strolenitel. (I still hope people dare post non-humoristic characters though (no offense against the humor posters intended)).
4. Before posting think about this: "Will this character/item/plot in some way unbalance the setting?". Think this too: "Is this character/item/plot just my wet dreams exposed? Is this wishful thinking and not good game material?" (Good for avoiding those +5 Dragonslaying demon swords of divine magnitude)
5. Read articles in the articles and essays forum. -

#3Hey, Loki.
Just so you know- I'm really glad that you're still around and still posting. A lot of people don't take criticism so well when they get here, and leave after the first bad review. And, I admit that I can be a bit hard on newbies like you (mind you, that's "newbie", not "n00b", and we've had some pretty bad newbies before; the best kind of baptism is a baptism by fire).
Anyway, welcome.
P.S.- I wasn't exactly a straight-5 poster when I first came, either- search out some of my early posts (Devourer of Time, Asarth Awrun, Sword of Unattainable Glory) -

#4Yeah, I read alot of posts when I was in my 'Post only' stage of semi-joining the citadel that got mad at critisism. Its hard to make good items, but by trying hard enough and practicing your technique, you'll be a 5 star in no time.
Also, I want to ask, how do you actually level up in the Citadel? Is it how many items/plots/Npcs you make, or by your activity on the site? Loki and I were discussing this just the other day.
