Hello!
#1Wotcha!
I am Rob Lang, Author of the Icar Roleplaying and I arrived here from one of Moonhunter's posts back on Unclebear. I originally wrote and bean playing Icar back in 1990 with a few friends. It was very much the munchkin game of death, gore and high jinx. As I grew up and went to University, so did Icar and it was there that it matured. It's still a free Sci Fi RPG, available in PDF for anyone to download. I've just updated the site too, so it's nice and shiney and in XML to boot.
Other things that I get myself into include the people over at 1KM1kT, The Forge, Desert Realm (as Moggle) and, of course, Unclebear. I do a lot of lurking and reading other people's work and enjoy a little bit of graphics and music making.
Probably won't do any of the freeform stuff as I have too much on my plate as it is but I will get involved elsewhere.
A final thanks to the admins for running this place. It's normally a thankless task. So, here's a thankyou. Thankyou. -
Hello!
#2Welcome to Strolen's Rob. -
Hello!
#3Heeyy. How comes he gets to use Url images in his signature. No fair. I can't. :x -
Hello!
#4I used BBCode to specify mine. If it's not allowed, I shall remove it but didn't fine anywhere that said I couldn't! -
Hello!

The reason why Nosredna's sig pic wouldn't show was because of his picture's non standard filename. Try a picture with a .gif, .png or .jpg extension. -
Hello!
#6See? -
Hello!
#7Hey there, Rob!
Kudos on your setting and welcome to Strolen's. Be assured- we don't all right posts as long as MoonHunter's. :)
Jez' kiddin', Moon. -
Hello!
#8Rob, are you following me? Glad to have another designer on board (especially one with a great game).
Nosredna, you cannot use an entire directory as an image. I'm not sure what funky Linux tricks Tinypic is using, but bbcode isn't going to recognise anything outside of the format http://url.tld/folder/image.ext as being a valid image. -
Hello!
#9Ah, sorry. Yes, I am following you Kinslayer. It's like cyber stalking but less scarey. And rubbish. I am a rubbish stalker, of course. If I was a good stalker, you'd not know I was there.
Thanks for the kind greetings everyone! -

I tried that first. Wasn't working. Dont worry. I'm not really bothered but it would have been nice. -
Hello!
#11(Sorry for cluttering your greetings thread Rob)
You should try another free picture hosting site Nosredna. I searched the web yesterday and found that you were not alone in your plight. Appearantly Tinypic has made some adjustments that has rendered their URLs useless in many different forums.
I dunno what Tinypic does, but it seems that the url is not a directory. While http://tinypic.com/2ag58h gets you to Nosredna's image, adding a slash like this: http://tinypic.com/2ag58h/ does not. I regard that as a fairly safe indication that it is indeed not a directory. Indeed Tinypic gives an entirely new "directory" url to each picture, which would be a strange way of storing images.
Why can't people stick with the standards? -
Hello!
#12No problem, Mr. Hansen!
Tinypic are one of the services that are a law unto themselves. This has the rather disturbing upshot of holding their users - who use the service out of goodwill - to ransom. They appear to be a service that is trying to improve the web somehow but really they are just another corporation trying to make cash. -
Hello!
#13Greetings mr Lang... I will head over to read your work as soon as I can. I do enjoy a good sci-fi venture occasionally. -
Hello!
#14Thanks for the hint. It probably was Tinypic that was the problem. I ended up using Putfile. If it works I'm not complaining :) -
Hello!
#15As a general rule there are no graphics in signatures.
Signatures
Please keep your signature to a suitable length and keep in mind the advertising rules. You may absolutely link to your personal site in your signature. Your signature may be edited or deleted at our discretion if it is deemed inappropriate. No graphics in signatures please. We don't want to turn into one of those forums where signatures dominate the thread. It is annoying and a waste of bandwidth better spent on text
The biggest worry and reason for the rule is that it will turn into the sites I can't stand to browse due to the plethora of signatures. Give an inche type thing. So I would prefer no graphics in the sig. If it was a banner I would probably immediately edit myself as others have found out through experience but yours is very inoffensive, but....
Now that that is over with, welcome to The Citadel. Looking forward to checking out your site more once I get myself established (I just moved).
So will see you around! -
Hello!
#16I am more than happy to obide by the rules, especially when they are applied with a kind and subtle hand.
I completely understand what you mean about the images in sigs. I'd be interested to hear you thoughts on the site. -
Hello!
#17-waves- Hello there! I'm a Newbie. As if you couldn't tell. T-T Anyway, I hope to be accustomed to this site soon, I shall be reading the other posts of Newbie-ism(if there is such a word) to better educate myself. Ta! -
Hello!
#18Avast! Prepare to repel boarders!
Yeah, we saw you introduce yourself in the other thread. How goes it? -
Hello!
#19Really? Yayness. Anyway...I'm doing fine, I suppose. I've managed to work out how to get an avvie, at least. -
Hello!
#20A what?
What is "avvie"? -
Hello!
#21I believe "avvie" is an abbreviation for avatar there Cap'n. But I could be wrong. -
Hello!
#22Ah. Yes.
Roight!
