Personal backup

1. Personal backup

Would it be possible to implement a "download" icon at the bottom of different threads and/or posts? The result could be anything from a pdf file to a csv file or a plain text/html file with the desired content.

It would be a neat way to backup those threads we are building and want to make sure survive any difficulties, like hacker assault, hard drive failure, etc...

I know you have your backup routines, but the december 5th 2004 incident made me nervous ;)

That incident made me nervous as well. I do personal weekly backups but who knows when it will strike and it just isn't realistic for me to backup the site everyday. Although once I get linux running at the new house I can set up a shell script to do just that....as it is right now I have to do backups manually.

The backup idea is pretty good. Obviously I will have a print page that will be barebones and I have thought about the pdf thing as well. I know there is stuff out there that can build the pdf's on the fly so that may be an option too. Even a zip file of an entire category wouldn't be too out there.

Be nice if you could download all of your inputs, or others for that matter. I have the favorites thing working, might be nice to collect a list of submissions and get a pdf version of all of them. Might take this resource to another level.

If you have any more specific (or technical) ideas in this vein please let me know. I think this is a pretty important and necessary addition which could be helpful on many different levels.

   Cool.
