Howdy!
#1Greetings everybody, I'm a big fan of RPs and found this gem of a site by accident (was searching through Google for what the heck a 'shator demodand' is and stumbled here. Didn't answer my question but this find was tenfold greater!) I really like your site, it has a wealth of information for a guy with time to kill and a passion for RPGs!
A bit about myself: I'm a 15-year-old chap who lives in the cold, polar bear infested land of Finland! ...you know, near Russia? Yeah, that place. I'm your average nerd who sucks at P.E. but aces everything else (except Swedish... NEVER learn that language, let me tell you!) I like to think of myself as an amateur writer, and the main reason I like your site as it has a wealth of inspiration for a writer like me! Plus, I can share any things I come up as I write for others to use if they find it interesting! I'm currently planning a D&D tale with an original setting and I'd love to share it to you guys some time (it's going to have an infinite sea, a kingdom of beholders, and half-demon kobolds to name a few quirks!).
About my role-playing past: I first got interested when I found some old D&D books of my cousins' from my aunt's place. At the time I was eight and was naturally entranced by the kooky monsters and such (not really caring for the rules, I just wanted to read about the creepy crawlies! =) ) A year ago in 8th grade our school helper-assistant-lady (who is the coolest person in the world BTW) ran a role-playing elective that I gladly joined, having spent all those years entranced by all the old books (by that time I had also learned that roll meant throwing the dice, not a pastry). It was the classical Temple of Elemental Evil that we played. In the end, I was a werewolf gnome bard donning a stuffed moose head with a war mule and a bad-mouthed parrot. And a chainsaw (a gag on the "Saw of Mighty Cutting"). Why yes, I am totally insane, why do you ask?
Anyway, you've all probably skipped that load of text by now, so I have a triplet of questions to inquire you people smarter than me with, involving the forums:
1. I itch to write something in the settings section, but I want to know if I can post the description of a world that is still under development? You know, to give a basic idea of what it's gonna be like and so anyone can contribute to it. I want to tell my cool ideas, but I've still got a lot of work to do!
2. The freeform roleplaying forum: pardon my idiocy, but do the games there operate with rules or are they totally "anything goes except for immortality and munchkins" like, say, a Yahoo! RP Group?
3. If I get more stupid questions, can I post them here? I failed to notice a questions site.
Alas, I must go do schoolwork. Please, if anyone could answer my query, I'd be most grateful. And if you just want to greet, that would also be nice, as I'd know my rant did not go unheard! Well, I'll be back to your site later, keep doing great work, everybody! Bye! :D -

#2A role-playing elective?! Lucky guy.
1. The settings area on the main page is for *smaller* areas than worlds, bud. :) Try putting your world in the Flesh It Out section of the forums.
2. It's freeform- that means that its basically like Yahoo's, except that we don't suck.
3. Yeah, you can post 'em wherever you like, just don't expect them to stay there if they're in the wrong place.
Welcome aboard, my Finnish pal. Do you know any Sami? -

#3Depending on the size of your world and if you want input it would probably be equally at home in Flesh it Out or the Settings forums. All depends on what you are looking for. If you have smaller pieces that you are looking for help on then it is better to break it up and put them in the Flesh section. If you have parts of your world that you are pretty satisfied with then the Settings area would work. If you post enough content in the setting area you can then request your own forum for your world's use. There is a thread somewhere explaining those rules. Read the stickies in each forum and that should help a little.
For freeform questions feel free to start a new thread in OOC, Starters and Questions
and hopefully someone will help.
Any other questions you can continue in this thread and we will catch them. Inane Natter or the Tavern (for topic orientated stuff) might work for more pointed and in depth questions. -

#4ROIGHT!
Forgot about Setting Forge. I dunno' why, but I did. -

#5The perfect world is one with no war, free food and roleplaying electives at school.
You're one third of the way there. Oh how I envy you. -

#6Thanks, everybody, for the help and greetings. I guess some of my questions were rather newby, but everyone's new at a time!
I was in fact referring to the Setting Forge when speaking of the settings forum, I just forgot the name momentarily. I assumed you could paste stuff about whole worlds there because after skimming through, some weren't about just worlds, they were about galaxies. That isn't a tiny setting anymore.
And unfortunately our school no longer has the role-playing elective, the assistant left to go learn at college, though she'll occasionally come back as a substitute teacher (during which I take the time to discuss important matters with her like how huge the World's Largest Dungeon is and how much the Doom movie is going to suck). Well, the elective was fun while it lasted.
I assume you mean the Saame language when you said Sami, CaptainPenguin. No, I can't speak that language, it has a rather small speaking public exclusively in the north, and I live in the south. although I can tell that the language has got this wacky letter that looks like a drunk cross-breeding of a d and t.
BTW, horrible thing happened this morn'. There's been over hundreds of cars crashing today due to bad weather, and we slammed into a ten-car roadblock on the way to school. Strangely, no one got any nasty injuries except for a guy who fell out of his car when climbing out and got a concussion. Though I have to admit, the truck coming down the road while we were jammed with the other cars gave more than a small scare.
Anyway, I'm going to go peruse your site now some more, and I'll probably go give some input to the Flesh It Out page, so I hope I'll be a recurring member at your site! Bye! -

#7You lucky bastard! We had a roleplaying club, but not an elective...
I envy you. And more importantly, can I come live in Finland? -

#9Well, I meant the Sami people, as in the reindeer folk, but maybe that term isn't correct anymore...
But, y'know, whatever. -

#10Greetings fellow visitor... I would say I'm new here as well, but I've slunk around the dark corners for a few months now. I was very tentative when posting anything here at first. As a matter of fact I didn't even create a hello thread for a least two weeks after I found the site, instead surfing the different forums for ideas and marveling at all the talent that resides here.
After all of that however, I can't stay away and hopefully you wont either. this is a site above sites among the RPG world. I think you can literally find anything in these forums and like most of it.
Can't wait to read some of your ideas...
Hello... -
Howdy!
#11The term is correct Captain, but it differs from country to country and from tribe to tribe. -

#12Oh.
Well, anyway...
Speaking of the upcoming Doom movie- yeah, that's gonna' suck. You know that for the movie, they've replaced demons with mutants? C'mon! How could you do that with Doom?! It's DOOM for Cthulhu's sake! -
Howdy!
#13Ah, good 'ol Cthulhu... Played that a few times myself. Was very intrigued about the Cthulhu monsters Gods in Hellboy... what I would dreamed some looked like.
They need to do a good Cthulhu movie... -

#14Mourn, you have no idea. You have only scratched the surface.

#16Well, I meant the Sami people, as in the reindeer folk, but maybe that term isn't correct anymore...

Ah, right, the word means both the language and the speaker (the reindeer folk as you put it). Sorry, I misunderstood your question. Well, I've met some of them up north, but it's not like they dress up in silly blue hats and live in the forests herding reindeer. Nowadays they use quad bikes and snow mobiles for that. I don't know anyone personally, though, apart from a friend of my dad's.
Of course, Sami is also a normal name, and I know many of those! =P
BTW, look! A kobold avatar! YAY! Kobolds are so cool...
