Wikis are still cool

1. Wikis are still cool

Stumbled on this during a quick look at gamegrene.com and it is pretty cool.

Not changing what I am doing by a long shot, but just idly wondering if there is something we could use a wiki with....

Given the amount of time this has been "in play" they have not gotten that far. We could generate more information in the same time, even in our own haphazard fashion. After my reading, it seems disorganized and not very clear. It is a noble experiment, which may not ever be completed. But it does show us some things to do or not do.

   1) Projects needs either a steering commitee or a central editor. Said people need "editing rights" for posts.

   2) Projects need to be well defined and "seeds" of the basic ideas should be provided. That way people will all be posting in the right direction and there will be no need for back editing or revision.

   3) Deadlines of some kind or level are good. It gives us a cut off date or target to shoot for.

   4) There should be a format for every post kind, or at least expected information in each post.

   5) Artistic is nice, but easy to understand is better.

   6) Of course, the basics of English in terms of grammer, spelling, and punctuation must be observed.

   On more serious consideration
Admittedly, theirs is a game rather than a real effort to generate a serious game world. It is in turns. Entries are initially put as alphabetical. (Of course what about stubs you put in that are eariler in the alphabet than the current turn). You are not allowed to "fill out" references that you put in your entrances. And you have to generate "stubs" for others to fill out eventually. It is a bit strange.

Yeah, but they are still cool.

Gave me a couple ideas on how to handle the Worlds a little bit better.

It keeps going back to a better structure for navigating....which is what 2.0 intends to do so we go right back to what we are doing right now.

   BUT....wikis are still cool!
