#2I like the setting a lot - the different races are well thought out and interesting (and different from the normal) and the background with the gods is good too.
My biggest question is could you go in to a bit more detail about what magic is and isn't capable of? I know you said there are the three schools but, e.g. how common is each amongst the population? Are people born with the magic skills (maybe with different degrees in it) or can anyone learn it, with the right training? Also, with elemental magic, how much can be done (e.g. can any elemental mage, e.g. create a big wall of fire or is this quite hard)? How about summoning things and creating magic devices (e.g. reciprocal scrying communicators, teleportation networks, etc.)? Similarly with psionics: could a really powerful wizard (with the right tools) mind control a whole city or is it a matter of slow suggestion, gradually working upon and manipulating a single person's mind over time, even for the most powerful?
As I said, I really like the setting - those were just the things I kept thinking I wanted to know more about as I was reading it. -

#3Actually, I have to say that if I have any complaints, my one complaint is that you innovated on the races, but not enough! If you're going that far, why not go as far as possible?
Why have hamburger when you can have steak, if you know what I mean? -

#4Iain, I will put more up on that today so look for an update soon.
Captain, what exactly do you mean? How much more information do you think it needs, and what type? -
Hewdamia Thread
#5That isn't exactly what I meant.
Now don't take this as a criticism- from what I know thus far, it seems pretty good.
I meant- you really did innovate on the races. You've made changes. The Novotie aren't just elves. The Gutxi (is that the name?) aren't just gnomes. But they aren't different enough to seem really innovative. It just seems (to me) that you've gone half-way and stopped. -

#6I see... no offense taken by the way. So how do you individualize them from the norm? Advice? -
Hewdamia Thread
#7Well, I hate to honk my own horn, but I think a fairly good example would be my thread in Flesh It Out- "The Duerga: A New Look At Dwarves".
But y'know, Mourn, you need to do whatever works for your setting and for you. Don't let me influence you if you don't want me to. -
Hewdamia Thread
#8I read it already. I enjoyed that very much but am finding difficulty in making something so original as that. And I wouldn't dream of having someone influence my choice, but drop a piece of advice... thats different. I don't mind asking for other opinions.
I had originally created the Ginesh as an after thought and didn't really have anything in mind when I created them. When I did however, I turned them into a race of almost all mental superiors. Almost everyone of the Ginesh are Psionics or have vast mental potential. I really didn't want someone with such an advantage to have better physical stats than any other race so I made them have a hugh disadvantage by making them small. It just turned out that they ended up similar to a Gnome. I've tried to think of ways to change them but without doing something completely drastic I am unsure what it would accomplish. Bottom line however. All Ginesh are Psionic, that is their difference. They are not tinkers as would the stereotype insist, just far more intelligent. If someone could come up with a physical discription that details them in a way that is smaller than average yet nothing like a Gnome that would be wonderful. I am brainstorming on the Gison however.
I also have two other sub races of the Derevo, the elves you were talking about. Both are of a NPC race and not playable by a player unless the GM agrees to it. One are more like the Duegher Dwarves. They are no where near Drow. I never liked them. The other is a race that has turned into tribal cannibals. Detailed information on them is sketchy at best atm.
I just added a few changed to the Ginesh Captain, tell me what you think.

#11UPDATE : Added the City of Stormgarde to the original thread.
I appologize for my lack of posting. I've had my wisdom teeth removed and am having complications with it.
EDIT: Changed the race Ginesh's name to Olwynn. As I found out that in Everquest there is a race caleld the Ginesh who are very similar to Gnomes. Changed due to a copyright issue of course. Who would have thought?
Also edited the Gison. Added a more individual touch to them. -
UPDATE
#12UPDATE Sorry for my lack of updates recently.
Added the City of Venkis to the main Hewdamia thread.
Please post comments about the setting thus far in this thread. I am curious to know how it is turning out. -
