Got what I think will be enough but more heads are better than one.

Trying to be comprehensive while building the linking scripts. So far I have the following and wondering if they are easy enough to do/figure out and if you can think of anything else you may want to link to.

[submission name] - Will link to that submission using the submission name (you can link anything this way, doesn't have to be a submission. If there is no submission it will automatically run a search on the name, list matches, and ask the person if they want to create a post with that name.)

[submission name|other text description] This will link to the submission name but use the other text as the description that is used in your text.

[name:username] "name" will be typed in and the second will be the username you want to link to. This will go to their homepage.

Images will be uploaded to a default directory with specific limits on it. So if it is in the directory then there shouldn't be a problem with it.

[image:name.jpg] this will embed the picture in the post so the text will flow around it.

[link:name.jpg] this will link the picture to some text that will open in a new window.

    Debating about this one:

[submission name|summary] In this "summary" will be typed explicitly and in this case it will do sort of how it is done currently, the title will be shown as well as the summary. Was thinking that this would only be used in the "links" section (which would preclude the need for "summary") and also debating about the possible need for "full" as well? Do you see any reason to want to have another full submission in a post? [submission name|full]

I think I will leave everybody able to link to offsite/forum pages with the html and make people work a little bit to that. It is really not that hard to type link text here.

I sort of have to allow it because people will use it. Do you think there is a need to link to offsite pages? I could probably limit it to only strolen.com to maybe cut down on spamming other sites or something or is it useful to allow links to offsite?

Just don't know about that one, especially after the last little fiasco.

For comments it will be basically the same except no pictures.

Do you see a need to be able to link to the id of a submission? or something? I didn't really, that would force a database call if you didn't know the name and had to have the site look it up and I don't think that is very necessary.

Still want to have the "keyword search" where the admins can define a couple threads as keywords that are automatically soft linked (will have a faint dotted line or something under them) that will guide users to these predetermined submissions. Like assassins for instance, if that word is used in a submission that will soft link to a thread on the improvements on the cliche assassin. Each of those "a different take on" threads seem to me to be perfect for this sort of thing.

Each link in a post will also be siphoned out so that you can view a list of links used in that submission. Also in that same extra area will be a list of all the other submissions that link to the current submission. Also in that same extra area will be the list of author/admin/mod approved suggested links to be used with the current submission. Users will get extra XP for accepted link ideas for submissions.

So with the submission you have a consolidated list of links to links in the submission, links that link to the submission, and links suggested to be used with the submission.

    Any linking thoughts?

Oh, the everything site tracks on where people browse and it creates associated links based on what users view. They only track the last submission looked at. So if I looked at an item, then next I view an NPC, those two things are now linked. It uses these association to put extra links on the bottom, sort of the "if you like this perhaps you might like this" type thing. Not sure how to implement it yet because I haven't thought too hard about it, but it seems interesting. The links would probably be available from an extra link in the right menu.

Another useless bump. But has things I want to do still.
