#1Ideas on the site.
1) We can charge $5.00 for no advertising on the site and then we can charge $4.00 for those that will put some kind of banner (that we will make) saying they are hosting from us on the front page (not doorway) of their site and make some rules saying as much. If we do more then that then they might as well stay with Geocities. Would we go down to our cost $3.00 for advertising?? I don't know either. I don't even know if it is a good idea.
2) Give a discount if they sign up for a year. Normal is $60.00, give it to them for $50 or $55. Or say the first month is free if you sign up for a year.
3) Should we set up a forums right away?
4) I would think we are targeting newbies for the most part for roleplaying sites. Because of this we should have a very comprehensive FAQ covering even the most basic of questions. A good start to see a good FAQ and something I want strive for is http://www.affordabledot.com/faq/ and the support link as well. They are a hostingmatters site so most of it will apply to us. I just do not want to do any plagarising so will use it as an excellent example but we will make our own.
5) Banner advertising....what do you think? Since it is commercial, why the heck not I think.. http://www.rpgindustry.com/advertise.php has some links to some banner exchanges. Not sure who allows free commercial banners though. Something to look into.
6) Other advertising. Everywhere I read says that newsletters are the way to go for free advertising. Get a opt in mailing list (which we will have) and supply content. Inside that content then put in some ads. The easiest way to do this is through strolen.com. But, obviously, we need some stuff to write about and it is not easy to just sit down and pound out some articles.
-Once you have the newsletters you make them available for download/viewing in text or pdf and leave the ads. -

#2Saw this on another site as well and added my own ideas to it.
Referrers. Can do a point system.
For every mini account they get one point
For every solo account they get two points etc.
For every 5(?) points accumulated they get a free months of webhosting. The referred has to sign up and stay for over a month though for obvious reasons. (money back guarantee)
May be easy or difficult to set up depending on the merchant credit card setup thing. Easy enough to make a banner or a link from their site that holds their ID and track it that way.

#4But if they get us 5 other accounts then we basically make up for it immediately depending on the accounts that are set up.
If it is a mini account that is $10.00 extra in the first month that already beats up the month of the $3.00 mini account that we would be giving away for free.
For the basic we would break even for one month but still have 5 extra signups that would last however long. We would only loose money if it was one of the bigger accounts, but we would still come out ahead.
Could be amended to say if you have a mini through a basic account 5 points will get you a free month and make it more for the rest, or just give credits towards the accounts.
If somebody gets us 60 accounts, I would be happy to let them have them have their hosting for free all year. They made us money that we wouldn't have without them. Why make a limit?
Do the math and if you see we are losing then you have a point. But we can rig it however we want and change it to make it benefit as much or as little as we desire. As we all have said at one point or antoher, we are not doing it to become rich, doing it for fun and experience. If it catches on we may get rich on accident, but that will come one way or another as we grow. Right now we need customers. We can always stop the offering. -
