I've been hanging around here since last spring, but I've never posted anything before this (I think...). I thought that it would be polite to introduce myself and tell you what I've used this site for.

I'm a 22-year-old student of comparative religion from Finland. Considering my young age I like to see myself as a fairly experienced GM -- after all I've been doing this more or less actively for about two thirds of my life.

I'm normally more into storytelling RPGs, but I stumbled across this site as I was looking for new ideas for a figure adventure campaign I've been captaining. The campaign includes strong RPG elements so applying for example plot and setting ideas to our game has been easy. I will surely take advantage of your great ideas in the future too, also when GMing 'real' RPGs.

Thanks and keep up the good work!

...yeah, yeah. Maybe I will also post some adventure seed or character or something one day when I feel like it. :)

Greccio, remember this: google is your friend!

Using the search engine google, you can find an answer to most of the questions you will ever have.

I made a google search for you and this was the result:
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22happy+camper%22+definition&btnG=Google-s%C3%B8k&meta=

Notice the second entry on the page.
Try following that link (Happy Camper - Dictionary Definition by freesearch).

If you repeat this procedure everytime there is a word you don't understand, you'll be allright. I am a non-native speaker too and I use this approach, prefering Encyclopediae Britannica.

"happy camper" is an idiomatic phrase, originally referring to Boy Scouts on a camp-out.
A happy camper is someone who is happy and cheerful, generally with overtones of being satisfied with occurences or one's place in life.

Usage: "That baby is not a happy camper. Look at it crying" or "You're a happy camper, aren't you doggy?"

Ohoy Captain, you asked me about that comparative religion. To make it short: Comparative religion (or religious studies) studies religions and religiousness as cultural, societal, historical, psychological, biographical, cognitive and biological phenomena.

If this doesn't make it any clearer, don't worry. Even researchers don't know what comparative religion is. Actually it seems that the most fundamental project of comparative religion is to try and explain what the hell are we actually doing when we are doing comparative religion ;)

Ah... So, it's like relating religion to the culture of said religion? Like the way that the Egyptians became hyperconservative and against change due to their belief that the world had a sort of "Cosmic Order"?
  22. Howdy!

    #22
Yeah, studying conservative tendencies of the Egyptians would be about societal, cultural and historical aspects of comparative religion. How religions and religious world of experience interact with societal and cultural reality is actually something I am very interested in. Actually that is what my master's thesis is about: presentation of divinity of Frankish kings in the Late Antique and Early Medieval court poetry.
