    Credit Card Accepting

Depending on the gateway they use then we can get some actual credit card charging program to use the account.

From the hosting matters reselling forum these ones were suggested and recommended. (* 4 being best recommended)

    http://www.ezmerchantaccounts.com/ ***
    http://charge.com/ *
    http://www.cardservice.com/ **
    http://www.modernbill.com/home/index2.htm ****
    http://www.phpmanager.com./
    There is always http://www.paypal.com

    BUT BUT BUT

Hosting matters allows resellers, and sites for that matter, to use their own SSL certificate but you have to through a link like the following:

https://minerva.hmdns.net/~strolen/ (or wherever we have it) and can link to it from there. That will save us some cash on the SSL thing.

(I think I am understanding this process?)

Need SSL certificate to do secure on the website.
Need a merchant account to be able to accept credit cards
Need some kind of shopping cart system that will allow the charging of credit cards (sometimes both the merchant account and cart are sold as a package and sometimes not)

Still need to do some research on this topic.
  2. Excellent preliminary research!

You answered the questions that I didn’t even get to yet.

As far as a certificate goes, I got one for free from thawte.com a couple of years ago. We may be able to use that or it may be necessary to get a merchant cert, if there is even such a thing. Either way I did not see that as being too much of a problem.

It would be cool to have a company-X cert but so long as the transactions are secure it won’t matter if we use our or Host Matters. I was reading in PC world or Maximum PC that a lot of vendors use good encryption from the customer to them (their site) but plain text from them to the bank or Credit Card Company.
(Trying desperately to avoid the soap box, but finding myself on it)
Let’s just make sure that the credit card information stays secure all the way, I would hate fro us to be the cause for someone’s credit card information getting hacked.

Yes, yes I know it seems that I just preached. I did not mean to, I only wanted to share what I read in the article. So don’t take it personally.

My vote is for modernbill. Seems like everywhere I look people are praising it. Not horrible expensive for what it does, but it is a chunk of change.

Might have to start with the phpmanager since it is WAY cheaper. Maybe we will get used to it and/or like it good enough for us.

Although I havn't actually shopped around in this area. This look like a good choice. I particularly like the comment that says it was written especially for Web Resellers.
