   I am starting this thread to discuss the name of the company. I do feel we need a significant name that means something. The public relations group we use at SAIC is Black Otter and they constantly complained that the name SAIC has a horrible ring to it when they try to sell our service to people who do not know who we are. Therfore, I say we need to come up with a descent name from our company that has a ring to it.
   
   So let's us this thread to come up with a name.

   Once you have decided on a name, you will want to check on it's availability. You can do this very quickly by simply dialing 411 and asking the operator for the phone number for the Department Of Corporations for your state.
   
   Then contact them and ask them to connect you to the name checking department. They will either transfer you or give you the phone number for that department.
   
   If you plan to conduct business under a fictitious name, you will want to contact your local Secretary of States office to file a fictitious name registration (DBA). A fictitious name is any name that does not contain your full legal name. Some states even require you to register if you are using your legal name.

   Either way I will continue to check the forum, if I can get both of you to respond I will buy them and sell it to the compnay once we form it.

   Personally don't like myparkingplace I am sticking with the citadel theme as my favorite, after all that is what I chose for my sites name so I am already biased.
   
   The spin idea is handy, but unless we are going to use it, it isn't much good. Meaning, are we really going to point rpgcitadel/parkingplace to the other sites. I am thinking they will remain seperate since they will be targeting different audiences. Don't really need a brand like that unless we intend on using....Any thoughts on using it with the spin idea?
   
   The names just don't roll for me and I can't get into them. Will look again when I get to work.

   Still can't bring myself to like them. Sound too forced, and they are because there are only so many good .coms available.
   
   rpgcitadel works well and I can't see not using it for the rpg site, but we don't have to force the other generic site to conform (although hostingcitadel is not horrible and kate has more stuff to work with). Will try to think of some others.

   Having Citadel in one of our web site names is probably doable. But don't need to associate the parent company with "Citadel."
   
   Web Works is catchy. If it is not gone for an LLC name I like it enough to go with it. For a parent company that is.
   
   Incase you(s) have not noticed I think we should structure our company as a patent company and DBA as something else. One possible example is
   
   Parent Company - Web Works L.L.C.
   DBA - My Parking Place :arrow: Sell web space to the masses
   DBA - RPG Citadel :arrow: Sell web space to RPG minded folk

    Why I like Citadel.
    
    The name isn't a common word and people may not know exactly what it is, but they do immediately think castle. So it is unique, draws the image of a castle or fortress, is a word of strength and can be interpreted as big. All things being emotions that can be desireable for a business. A name will be very important to us, it is the name that draws customers from the search engines, it needs to stand out as much as possible from the thousands of other web hosts out there.
    
    Citadel inspires an instant theme and, with the immense help of Kate, we will be able to pull off a very professional page that actually uses the business name as part of the site. rpgcitadel will obviously be RPG intense, while hostingcitadel will use the citadel on the page but will be more professional. We develop a brand that spans all our different web host sites, and instead of hiding them from each other, we can use them together. If we had myparkingplace, how do we tie that into rpgcitadel? For those customers that find rpgcitadel and don't have an RPG website but find us professional, or they are table roleplayers, or whatever, it would be much easier to promote Citadel Web Works as an alternate host for those people then it would be myparkingplace. Citadel = branding = standardization = familiarization = Cross linking that is intuitive vs. odd.
    
    Also need a name that can grow with us and that doesn't trap us into a corner. Web Works is good, and can span pretty much any type of web/internet product that we could think of. For all the same reasons, castle/fortess/citadel is so universal of a symbol it makes it very useable and adaptable to any number of uses.
    
    Confindence for us will have to come from a name initially, and I personally would not want to buy webspace from somebody named myparkingplace without a firm history under their belt. It doesn't hold the confidence for me. Like onedollarhosting or similiar names, too much, too forced, sort of cheap sounding.

    The structure matches my thoughts, but if we choose a solid name for the parent company, I don't see a reason not to use it as the "general" webhosting name, and use rpgcitadel as branch off of it or something. I feel some of our strength will be from the association of the sites. They may not like the RPG themes, but if we do get a following, customer satisfaction is the key to this game. We get good reviews on one site, the other site is directly associated with it, then we win on all accounts regardless of which site gets the most business.

    We have not firmly established anything. If you read my last post you will see that I listed rpgcitadel as a name we could DBA.
    
    I am NOT against anything Citadel as much as I am neutral to it. Citadel does not really do much for me. You are correct Citadel is a little bit obscure. It is that fact (The obscurity) that will keep anyone from remembering it or doing a search for it. They may remember to search for “something to do with a fortress or castle� if we are lucky.
    
    What will do with myparkingplace.com is to spin it, not to rpgcitadel.com, but to rpgparkingplace.com. That is where the intuitive link comes in, not with myparkingplace.com to rpgcitadel.com.
    
    myparkingplace.com -> rpgcitadel.com = not intuitive
    myparkingplace.com -> rpgparkingplace.com = intuitive
    
    My Parking Place works as a name for a hosting company because it is intuitive. You find yourself saying “I am hosted at My Parking Place dot com.�
    
    Either way, you have already stated that you prefer hostingcitadel.com\rpgcitadel.com and I have stated that I prefer myparkingplace.com\rpgparkingplace.com. Since we agree to disagree we are stuck waiting on a tie breaker. Since there are three of us we are forced to wait and see what Bob has to say.
    
    Again the name for our parent company does not have to have anything to do with what we name our hosting service. So let’s do this in an order that we MIGHT be able to get through and name our company first. Web Works L.L.C. is good for me; if you agree then we do not have to wait for a tie breaker from Bob. Do you agree? Is “Web Works L.L.C.� going to be the name of our parent company or are we on hold for Bob again/still?
    
    I am glad that you agree with the structure. However, I do not see any reason to HAVE to use the company name as the general host sites name. However webworks.com is taken but webworksllc.com is not taken.

    In the end no decision has been made or can be made where there is not a two thirds vote. I haven’t seen any votes although I have asked for a couple.
    
    In summation, this is a company with three voting members. We cannot make decisions without a two thirds vote. So let me remind you that we do not yet have a name for the company, the main site, or the rpg site. At best it looks like the two of us have agreed, at least a little, on the structure (e.g. parent company DBA’ing as something else).

    If WebWorks is trademarked, that goes another huge step above a DBA and I don't think putting a space between the words would even allow us to use it.
    
    Stupid forums, we need to plan a business meeting. One hour together we can probably hash out everything. We can all fly to, say, Hawaii and deduct it as a business expense.

    I was stuck on rpgcitadel because Bob already gave the go ahead with that name. Nothing is in concrete as you say. It might be a situation where we all need to schedule a time to meet online and go through a chat program and try to hash out some of these problems. Do a little brainstorming session to come up with some more names. Our three minds together can be a very dangerous thing and we can accomplish great things.
    
    
    
    My other suggestion is for DAN to volunteer to be a tax dude for his squadron. I missed the class dates for it already for me to do it here. Taxes are going to be a BIG DEAL and having one of us educated on it will be a great benefit, plus an EPR bullet.

    I need the bullet. I will be a tax guy here and see what I can learn. I do not know how much personnel taxes will help with business taxes, maybe there will be a few entrepreneurs here. There is only one way to find out. And it can not hurt. :wink:

    Like we said though, the Company name doesn't have to be the same as the sites. Good for branding and identity purposes but not absolutely necessary. The dash in the name is a bummer for me but if we don't use it for any of the main hosting sites it won't be big deal. Still leaves a name for the main site. I am good with rpgshadow or rpgcitadel...citadel is better for building a community....shadow better for branding...but could twist it, all under the rpg shadow or something. Lots of options. Will email bob and tell him to look here really quick.

    citadelhosting.com is that Citadel Data Center place.
    
    Their hosting descriptions are crappy and they are looking for the kind of business we don't want, and probably vise versa. So where we might lose a little to citadelhost.com (they have good prices but I wouldn't buy from them, you have to use paypal, they have broken links, AND they don't even have an AUP posted so they are not too scary) I think we may gain some views by the hostingcitadel.com citadelhosting.com mixup and gain more then losing.
    
    Most will be coming to us from links and not just hand typing in the address so those kind of hits will be in the minority anyway.
