What drives Demons?
#1Shadoweagle has some good questions on demons and thier behavior and survival, but one I did have anwsers to. These will be the facts of how things work, but they might never reach the ears of players, or even GMs. I'll post them here to clarify motivations and forstall questions.
Do they feed from them just because this is how they have done it for oh-so-long? Of course, there may be some extremist demons who are 'vegitarian'.
If they depend solely on the humans emotions to feed, how did demons survive whilst the dimensional alignment was not in place? What did they eat? Or did each visit sustain them for the next apocalypse?
Emotions are not the "meat" of demons diet. They don't need the emotions to survive. The inhabitants of the 6th world have acquired that impression due to the damage the demons inflict. The emotions are to demons what drugs and alchohol is to mankind. That's right, they're demon junkies.
Just like each man has his own vice, demons have thier own vices too. Some are cultural, some are personal, but everyone that wants something comes to the 6th world to get it.
Not every demon wants the hit, though. A very small few have even traveled across the rift to stop the plunder of thier brothers on the poor souls they feed on. While the "anti-demons" remain almost a covert ops or secret society, they are occasionally encountered.
As for vegetarians, there are a few, even among the anti-demons, that feed on the emotions of fellow demons. Basically psychotic canibals, their fellow teammates and demon-kind might not even be aware of their nature. -

#2Excellent :)
So the dimensional alignment is like a christmas of sorts for the demons :D They all look forward to the next time it comes around so they can get high once again.
One other thing: If the demons can skip dimensions and come to this one, what if the humans can do the same? This might be an RP idea for high-level characters.
The demon of loss has taken the kings son back to their dimension! The dragonlords have agreed to help by opening a rift to the demon dimension for several hours - just enough time for a party of brave adventurers to enter, find the son and get back before the rift is closed and they are trapped in there forever. -

#3More like mardi gras. "Show us your ... err ... uhh ... what ever those are?" *Wince*
The rise and fall of magic was tied to how close the two dimensions were, but now the level of magic is constant, and no one, not even the dragonlords, know why.
Well, I do.
