#1The Old Mans Odysey | Type: Large_Sword | Bastard sword | Cursed | Author: PenDragon
This is a +4 bastard sword made out of diamond with magical properties. (optional) This sword has its own personality!
This weapon has its ups and downs. This sword is a +4 diamond bastard sword. It has a Sticky type substance on the handle that gives a +7 to saves vrs. disarm attacks. It is of unknown origin, but is rumored to have been made by a crazy human sorcerer that wanted to cheat death. There are also rumors that it can be destroyed only by summoning the god of time/death (or some other ingenious way GMs choice). Destroying it also happens to be the only way to get rid of its effects short of a wish spell (caster level 25)
Magical Properties: This item is cursed.
The magical properties of this sword are as follows: the owner ages two times as fast, they cant stay away from the item more than a day (treat as infected by a sickness), they cant die of old age (still gets age modifiers), they get +4 intellegence , +4 wisdom, and cant touch or be touched by metal (this property effects the sword also). Their sight ruduces 50%, they get -4 to listen checks, hair turns grey, gender becomes male, and they get +4 to will saves. (optional) This item has an ego of 21 and will try to over power a character if they have a conflict of interests (swords +4 will bonus does not help on this save). The swords purpose is to prolong the life limit of the human race.

I just don't get it.
Everything is so extreme, and there is sooooo much, that it makes it unuseable.
Please, please, please, post the rest of your submissions into the forums (Flesh it Out) before you post anything else here. Let us help you in a less formal medium then here.

I get it. I don't understand why it would be made. But I get it.
I would never use it in my game, nor play in a game where such wierdness would be used.
Quick physics lesson: Diamond is very hard, but easily broken if hit laterally against its matrix. This is how diamonds are cut. Most sword strikes will be lateral in nature. If the matrix is alligned properly to the blade allowing a cut, any defensive strike/ parry would shatter it. So Diamond swords are not a very good idea.
So you can say, it is magic that made it. Okay. But why waste a diamond this large upon a magic item when you could buy a country?
And the sandpaper grip material. Again that does not work. All it will do is cut your hand open or destroy your gauntlet. Sand is abrassive and effectively is "slick" against a hard surface. Try a soft and sticky grip material instead.
Don't believe me? Take a bat wrap the grip in sand paper. Take 50 or so swings at full power. Apply diseffectant and bandages as appropriate. Wrap it in gel tape (available at any medical supply store) and so the same 50.
Though on the plus side, good use of spelling, punctation, and grammer.

I can see this being used - in a Monty Haul game, or in a game where the DM decides he's going to be cruel and rigorously apply the laws of physics to everything, where any attempt to use it would result in a shattered sword and and bleeding hands...
On the other hand, it's a great example of why game balance is important.

For those that dont get it an old man made it (thus the name) that was trying to cheat death (purpose) so he used a material that he wanted to look at for eternity (thus the diamond). The sand paper will be changed and so will the magical properties to include the "cant touch or be touched by metal," part to include the sword itself also. Thanks.

About the diamonds:
It isn't a matter of "getting it". It's a matter of the fact that a sword blade made from diamond would shatter on impact! What does a diamond have to do with eternity, anyway?

#3Given the slide of the comments recently (and his inability to understand that crystals/ gems do not make good weapons) I nuked this post. People were starting to go sideways on it, and I did not wish to let it go any further.
So lets us repeat.
Reward good posts with praising comments. Keep doing it, as this keeps them "alive" in the system and close to the top.
Giving helpful comments pointing out what would make the post better. Giving out grades on Spelling, Grammer, Punctuation, and Capitalization is acceptable, as well as mythic ratings.
Be specific if possible. If you are not specific, you might as well say... "it sucks".
Avoid getting upset that the poster is an idiot. They are probably getting upset that we are telling them what to do.
If the item is particularly heinous, don't bag on it... give one helpful comment and post it up in the Admin section as a potential delete. The more attention we bring to these things, the longer it takes for them to fall off the lists and us to just delete them.
