    hmmmmmmmm

Might have to find this fellow.

The person was stupid. Left a direct link to my css file so I disabled it. It used to look exactly like my front page, now I took away the css so it looks a little more crappy.

Found him by hits in my weblog, little bastard.

Anyway, I couldn't track anything down on it as far as where it is linked from, might be new. Will look periodically.

    I'd be pissed off.

Why would you be flattered about some no talent hack using your site, our ideas, and kate's copywritten art for his own gain?

Someone needs a good hard kick in the shin.

Lawyer Kate already has a fax drafted and is taking care of business.

    She is so cool!

I'm not a lawyer! Seriously I swear! Don't throw me in the shark tank!

It does mean that they were enough impressed with the site to rip it off... Yay Strolen! Strolen who doesn't take enough credit for the images :p He was quite involved in the developing of them.

Anyway, Yahoo won't tell me who the person is unless I get a lizar- (ehem) lawyer to call them and speak funny Legalese at them or obtain a court order. This will be very easily (and hopefully quickly) resolved. Unless the person decides to flame me for having them shut down their identity may forever remain a mystery *woooooo* Yahoo will probably tell them who lodged the complaint against them if they ask, though the size of the yarbles required to flame me for this rather makes contact unlikely.

I can see them flaming you. Now, that would be funny!

Chances are the little bastard will just pop it up on another site though, but we will catch who we can.

He did not use any ideas luckily. Its just an empty and hollow page. Maybe some similarity to the author himself? I am all for inspiration, maybe even cutting and pasting to complement own work but this is too much.

Searching my curses to find something suitable  But the person is probably already cursed with a heavy lack of imagination.

I curse him to be devoured by six dozen howler monkeys and a gang of rabid squirrels.

Found another jackass. He isn't as bad and had an email and some forums. Left him a message

I am quite confused. What does a UK paintball team have to do with us? I didn't see anything when I got there that connects them to us at all. What was there that made them jackasses?
  11. Flattered or Pissed Off?!

Didn't explain. Took me two looks as well.

Another one I found from my weblogs. Overlooked it the first time, second time I did a view source. He basically stole the design of the website as well. He left links to my 'blank.gif' image in the code and I tracked him from that. he changed a lot of stuff, left the CSS stuff (probably didn't understand it) so when you mouseover one section it will turn brown. Familiar?
  12. Flattered or Pissed Off?!

    #12
Well the second Jackass (http://www.geocities.com/gunnerj_do//index.html) seems to have stopped the exact copy of your site. Now he/she is just using the public forum php build minus the php.

But the first Jackass (http://www.geocities.com/injanate/) hasn't changed a thing. Is there an actual legal copyright infringement here? Get em…

Stinkin' little thief......I'd gut him.

I curse them and all their lines to always get zapped by static electricity when they touch something, and to always get a lottery ticket with all but one of the correct numbers for the jackpot.
  15. Flattered or Pissed Off?!

    Why I oughta'....

If that were me, I would track them down and eat their brains. Not literally, though. I'd probably have a heated argument with them and then beat the crap out of them.

If they had taken the time to ask you if they could use your css, I would have been flattered. As it stands, if I saw them... Well, let's just say the results would NOT be pretty.
  17. Flattered or Pissed Off?!

Well, at least you don't have some retard threatening to steal your site content by using frames like I am :P Not that it will work ;)
  18. Flattered or Pissed Off?!

    #18
Now that is LOW!!! Passing content off as their own I am assuming. I even have a problem with people linking to sites inside frames let alone sniping the content.

Generally I don't care about taking a format idea and creating your own, but when you take graphics, directly link the css (moron) and just change a title, that is a little too much. But that isn't even as bad as passing off content, that is nuts!
  19. Flattered or Pissed Off?!

Yeah, but what he doesn't understand is one, the visitors will still be going to RoE and not really to a website owned by him :P So that means I continue getting the advertising and impressions. All he would basically be doing is creating a second portal to RoE and bring in more members :)

Also, the frames won't work anyway because of this little bit if javascript I wrote.

It will cause RoE to break out of any frames it is loaded into :D Only those people who have javascript turned off will be stuck and I plan on adding a link to the main menu of RoE that will allow them to break out themselves if that is the case ;)

Because I use cold fusion includes at RoE, I only had to add that bit of script to one file and upload it...now it appears on EVERY page. :D

LOL! Freeservers.com killed his site anyway for breaking my copyright ;)

Yet another handy javascript to add to my, well, two. Much to the chagrin of a few on the board I usually have nothing to do with anything with 'java' included in the name, including the drink. But I have slowly been shown the light and usefulness of a couple scripts.

Dr Phluid will remind me which one he suggested I put in, I have a feeling that it is similiar to the one you mention.

The joy of Cold Fusion and PHP. The ease of manipulation of one file to make the entire site eat the fruits. I learned the beauty of modulation early in the building (thank goodness) and can also benefit from a few minutes of inputting some simple code to update the menu or add a quick script.
  21. Flattered or Pissed Off?!

    #21
Yep, without includes and other nifty programming tricks, running a site as large as RoE would be damned near impossible. I remember when I had only one menu on the site :P God that was awful.

    Strolen,

Oh how easily someone other than me sways you. That script is exactly the one I recommended to you before, but NOOO :(

Anyway, Java is NOT the same as Javascript anymore than Sun is the same as Microsoft. So it should please you that even if you do add the script you will not have any Java in your pages.

Frankly I am surprised that a non-Microsofty like yourself would not fully support Sun’s Java.

Hey, I just looked and you are already running javascript on this very page! You have already crossed over to the dark side. Every step get easier from now on.
  23. Flattered or Pissed Off?!

    #23
I thought it was familiar and mentioned it, it is in my todo list

Javascript on this page comes with the forum and thankfully I think it is just used for a popup for a new private message. I haven't looked too hard at it but it is minimalistic which is cool for me.

I will add that javascript that you gave me way back when, and I think there was another one too, I wrote them down. Might even get a fav icon going as well 8)

You do get the Clerical experience points for swaying somebody to your javascript religion and that is why I easily agreed here, the work was already done. :P

Still up and running I see. Even set up as a template for others to rip, insulting comments included. Oh, the joy of sharing the net with less-than-mature people.

Rubbish site that it is. It doesn't even have a title. Just "--PUT TITLE HERE--".

For the most part, I am a laid back kind of guy. As a writer and a gamer, there are few things that that get under my skin more than flagrant plaigerism. (sp) Seeing as a website is actually the visual representation of quite a bit of complex writing, this is doubly a sore spot.

Normally I would offer some sort of maliciously whimsical curse to elicit a quick laugh and a smile, but for some reason I cant think of anything witty...

So, lacking that I level against them this curse...

    Death shall seak you
    In every place
Even in every loved one's face

Hearken to my words of woe
    Angry hornets and writhing things
Come from the dark on silent wings
Killing over and over with their poisoned stings

Why not put the perp's e-mail address (if you ever find it) in open view, where the Spamlinns and their spambots will stuff his computer with foul spam for all eternity?

If I was a hacker (which I am NOT) I would want to DOS his site.He has no right to wear your site's *patch* without permission.

Wow- that's some serious-ass web-design lingo you're busting out there, Cheka. Been studying? :)

They must be giving out free manuals on how to be a hacker .

The sad fact is that you just stated the blunt truth Maggot. On the net there are sites offering step by step instructions on how to hack a site or in other ways cause harm.

Most often these sites cater to 11-14 year old boys and everyone write 1337. Painful and pathetic!

Speaking from someone who is firmly lodged in the graphics community, this kind of ripping is by far the worst sin anyone can perform. The saying goes that imitation is the kindest form of flattery but not in the digital world where it is possible to make a complete copy of something.

Given the huge number of free graphics utilities and tutorials, it is not difficult to put together a website of reasonable standard. Borrowing ideas from other sites is flattery in this case but ripping the entire site is a banishable offense. All it really takes is effort to put something together and that really bites for me. People put a lot of effort into creating original designs: only to be ripped off by some ingrate who just can't be bothered.

Unfortunately, digital retribution rarely works as it is so easy to disappear from the web and reappear as a new person. Fortunately, the law has caught up with the web and people understand it when real money is at stake.

I hope you get him. String him up.

Some kind of cyber watch dog should be set up to close down these irreponsible sites,AG.

Kate, the artist and designer of these webpages, has successfully shut down others that have done the same thing as this one. I am pretty sure she knew about this one so not sure why it is still up.

    Will see what's up.

Sooooo....what ever happened Strolen? This topic has lain fallow for many a month, nay, over a year!

The perps were caught and were going to court when a lynch mob gathered with torches, pitchforks, and reuben sandwiches who then laid waste to all that were associated with the crime. The state was happy since they saved money on court costs.
