  1. Why Sixth World?

Sorrel is the fourth planet from the sun in their solar system, much like earth is in our own; So why call the setting "The Sixth World"?

Civilisations rise and fall, that is the very nature of civilisations, but the rise and fall is much more disinct on Sorrel. The power of magic waxes and wanes, rising and falling in power, over centuries in Sorrel. The rise and fall are due to a "bump" in the planes.

Sorrel has it's own inherent level of magic, but it also gets some of it's magic from it's proximity to another plane, called the demon plane, although no "demon" has been interviewed to see what they call it. The demon plane moves through it's universe and dimension, as does Sorrel's universe and dimension, but they are quite close to each other. Close enough, in fact that they occasionally overlap. When they overlap, the levels of magic rocket on Sorrel and the area around it in the demon plane. During these times, demons cross over from their worlds to Sorrel to feast upon the pain and suffering they inflict on the thinking creatures there. The destruction is almost complete, leaving only lower lifeforms and supreme beings in it's wake. It is a time of apocolypse.

These ages of apocolypse are not frequent, however, and only one creature has borne witness to it. The Dragonlords are Gods made flesh, creatures invunerable to all attack, most of the time. They felt the rise in magic and their power and watched as demons swarmed into Sorrel and destroyed everything that was made by anything intelligent. The demons filled the lands, seas and air, moving mountains and seas, but still had to concentrate thier efforts to breach the Dragonlords lairs. And yet, the Dragonlords remained invunerable. Untill, however, their moon appeared in the night sky. Then the first Dragonlord fell to the demons. Four Dragonlords perished before they could rally and combine thier god like power to repel the demons.

And so it has continued, the level of magic rising, and the Dragonlords sending the demons spinning off into the void. The ritual drains the Dragonlords of most of thier power, and siphons Sorrel's magic off, leaving the lands bleak and wasted. But the land recovers, through Sorrel's inherent magic and the Dragonlord's presence and nurture. Lower lifeforms evolved into higher, intelligent beings and civilizations rose again.

Each time civilization grew, it was with in a different form, often influenced but the fact each lifeform that founded the civilization was different. The features of the lands were changed by the demons, so the entire world seemed different after each apocolypse. The Dragonlord reffered to each age as a World. There had been five Worlds before the last age of apocolypse, when the men of the world learned of the past and the coming of the demons, and beseeched the Dragonlords for saftey.

The sixth apocolypse has come and gone and the world of man has survived, but the demons have not simply disapeared like smoke from the campfire after a ghost story. The level of magic has lingered, the demons still come, although in minescule amounts, but they do remain. Magicians still have thier power and heros still have their calling, for the Sixth world has just begun.
