Clans of the Citadel!
#1Hello everybody! Remember me? I'm back after my extended vacation!
As I was gone, I noticed several other worlds have formed the idea of clans within their own worlds/unvierses. This has intrigued me to no end. Within Strolen, there is a roleplay section for the more adventerous of us to try out our skills in a world of others who think like us in the manner of roleplay! However, I believe we can take this a step further.
I suggest that we create our own clans and groups within the citadel of Strolen. Anyone can try to create their own clan, yet people must submit aplications to the leader of their character for acceptance. Mock battles between clans can be held, alliances, and everything, to not only allow people to experiance better the roleplay life, but also to test new characters, ideas, and weapons in inter-clan dealings.
This does not mean that war is the only reason for the clans, set up properly this can also give valuable experiance in character relations and how to deal with the more...shall we say..."obnoxious" players that tend to appear in every realm.
If anyone has any further questions please don't hesitate to PM me or post them right here! -
Clans of the Citadel!
#2Hmmm, definetly sounds intrigueing, but, I'm suspecting that it would be fantasy style stuff, or you'd need to decide on that, because I think it would be good to decide on a type of universe, like whether there's hightech or not. Other than that I love the idea. I'd have to lead my own crazy giant fighter clan. Hehe  -
Clans of the Citadel!
#3That would be fine if it stayed confined to the freeform section. I would rather not let it bleed over into the main portions of the Citadel though as it may incur some 'ganging up' on people and I personally don't want cliques going on outside the freeform. Everybody needs to be on even footing with no animosity towards each other to keep the ideas pure. -
Clans of the Citadel!
#4Ok, Strolen, let me lay out my ideas.
1- I think the clans section needs its own forum, placed in the freeform RP if you wish, where they will take place. You can make it so clans are not allowed out of this forum if you want as well.
2- There needs to be a head of clans, who will moderate the entire forum as a whole, and can accept and reject clan applications. (I will be happy to accept this position if you want)
3- In order for a clan to be created, the creator must submit an application in a special thread to the head of clans. It must state the clan name, purpose, and any other facts they deem neccesary. The head reviews these and sais yes/no via PM!
4- If the clan is accepted, they get their own mini-forum within the Clans forum, where they hold all clan-realted activities for their clan.
5- The first thread in each clan mini-forum must be a recruitment one, where players submit their character they want in that clan to the leader. The leader of that clan reviews these and accepts/rejects. the rest of the threads are created by the clan leader for a HQ, IN-CLAN battle arena, or anything else they want.
6- each Strolen user is allowed one character in one clan only, and must remove him/her entirely to change characters/clans.
7- also in the main clans forum there will be a thread for clan heads to meet, and then any other inter-clan threads in a seperate section (ex: General, Roleplaying, etc. on the main forum for sections.)
OVERVIEW- so we have a clans forum within the strolen forum, where there is a clan application thread in the "application" section. Then the "clans" section with links to each clans mini-forum, then the "inter-clan" section with the leader gathering and other inter-clan threads.
As I said I will be happy to accept the head of clans position as I suggested this, and will dutifully rule under your laws Strolen! PM me if you have any questions! -

#5With the current forum this idea will not work if only due to the fact that I do not want all the forums you are thinking about. I will concede to one extra forum (like the freeform one) * if * you get enough people interested in it.
I am not sure I have totally grasped what exactly it is, how it will work, what it is for, and I am still not so sure about the whole clan thing but as long as it is totally confined in the clan section, that is fine. This sounds like more of a no kidding roleplaying thing for an actual roleplaying site vs. our idea guild theme, but I am not totally against these things if people enjoy it.
Now as you know, or will find out immediately, I am not in the habit of starting forums without proof of concept. To get a homebrewed section you must start cataloging your stuff as you would if you had your own forum and once you have enough content in the Misc Homebrewed Ideas then I will open up a new forum.
So, feel free to persue this and generate some interest. For now, use the Citadel Tavern forum (since it is topic orientated and you can start as many threads as needed without really disrupting anything) and set up things exactly how you would if you had your own forum with the understanding that if it gets going I will move it all to its own forum. Get your idea rolling and show me what it is about. If you get the interest and people are enjoying it then I will have no problem trying to accomodate you as best I can. -
Clans of the Citadel!
#6I'm certainly interested in this. -

Clans of the Citadel!
#8Thank you Strolen for the opportunity to do this.
You are right in assuming it is more RP than ideas, yet I can help with that if I make it so that clans are used to test ideas we come p with. As of now, the only way to try things out is to throw them into an actual game, here they can try it in a non-game setting where it can be ruined if it goes wrong. Also, it is gaming experiance somewhat as if you think of the clan leader as a GM, and the members as PC's you get practice in dealings within the game! -
Clans of the Citadel!
#9Do you really think there are enough frequent visitors to the Citadel to do this, though? -
Clans of the Citadel!
#10go sounds intersting man i vote yes -
Clans of the Citadel!
#11I think this might even encourage more frequent visits! -
Clans of the Citadel!
#12I declare myself mother of the Writers of Teolin....
I have doubts.... I think in the end most clans would number one or two members and some would have high numbers of memebers.
(I am only counting the active ones.) Hmmm, perhaps I should check out the freeform roleplay part a bit more, because I was realy only thinking about the other fora and how many people regularly turn up there...
Yours,
Ylorea -
Clans of the Citadel!
#13I think there's enough that if we all were really interested there could be about two clans with decent numbers of people. -
So what exactly are your clan's doing?
#14Normally clans function as teams in a competative environment. Here it sounds like they are a group of playtesters?
Confused much. Enlighten please. -
Clans of the Citadel!
#15A very interesting idea, in my opinion, but the two largest concerns will be similar with any normal RP, that of getting enough people interested and joining, and keeping them on topic.
To me, it seems just like another RP, but at a larger scale, with several separate threads to read through. The fact that its larger will mean, however, that it would have to be far more in-depth than what I've read about it so far...
So why not plan this out? Even put it in the 'flesh it out' topic:
What if we made a world - the world of 'Strolen', the capital in this world of course bieng the citadel. dotted around the country were the clans, some boasting magic, some brute strength, some good, some evil. Sometimes these clans conflict with each other, fighting for whatever reason. And also, once or twice a year in the Citadel, the clans get together their greatest fighters to battle under rules in the Citadels Arena (thus allowing an 'Arena' thread in the 'Clans of Strolen' forum).
Each clan will need their own Thread, made by the clan leaders to describe both what their clan is and does, their likes and dislikes, their alliances and foes, their alignment, daily practices (eg. the morning ritual of prayer) and whatever else. Then if someone wants to join a clan, they can PM the clan leader and ask for admittance. If the leader agrees, that player then posts a character description (whether following a character sheet or from their own minds is up to the leader) obviously for the purpose of describing their characters physically, and their history. Clan leaders can talk between themselves to determine allies and enemies, and can decide on whether they want to start a 'clan war', in which they will agree on a setting (swamp/mountains/fields etc...) and battle it out.
Basically it will be like a large, multi-threaded RP in which everyone who is a part of Strolen will be able to opt to be a part of. If it goes well it might attract more people who want to be a part of it. If it goes badly and things become out of hand, we can delete the forum and pretend such a silly thing never happened.
It will need several moderators (of which Sniperspy already volunteered for) to keep things under control, modifying and deleting posts. And general rules will apply - such as no swearing, godmoders, spamming and so on.
Here is some of the threads which I see can be put in this:
(Rules/guidelines {OOC}) - An overview on the 'clans' system, and a list of rules and the like.
(OOC Chat {OOC}) - an OOC chat where people can talk between others, planning wars and events. (((It would be great if this could be a permament room in the Chat rooms, actually, so the thread isnt cluttered, and it will allow IM's so planning one small battle wont take weeks or even months to set out.)))
(Arena {IC}) - Set battles between clans take place in here, governed by a mod or something of the like. Rules will apply in it to make it more challenging.
(Tavern {IC}) - A basic get-together place set in the heart of the Citadel where members of clans occasionally go to chat. The town guard keeps a steady watch over this place, though brawls can happen here occasionally.
OOC means only OOC talking allowed in the thread, and IC, obviously means only IC allowed.
The rest of the rooms would be made apon request of clan leaders, and threads such as clan battles will be indicated something like this:
(Open plains [Telmorg -- Writers of Teolin])
this will mean that only members of Telmorg and the Writers of Teolin will be allowed to post in there, all posts by members of other clans will be deleted as soon as a moderator sees it. This will be an interaction scene set for those clan members only. If a Character is killed (It will probably be freeform, so it will have to be up to the players good conscience to allow his character to die) the player will be allowed to submit to join another clan or the same one again, and create a new character (which will have to be different from his previous in some way). So basically this will encourage people not to get too attatched to their characters as "If they get thrown from the horse, they can get straight back on". A limit of one character though, will be good.
Well, thats my rant - sorry for taking up your time trying to read through all that, and I hope it all makes some sense. -
Clans of the Citadel!
#16There actually were Clans on the old Citadel. Well Guilds actually... -
No, Timmy... there were no clans
#17We had one or two overzelous members who thought Clans for competive gaming would be a Good Idea on the site.
They were wrong.
What we would compete in or what we compete for was never determined.
They tried. They created three threads. Nobody except them posted to the threads, except them. The idea died a cold lonely death.
So competitive world building? How many NPCs can you generate in a 24 hour period? How many times can you post PIE in a single day. Nope. I don't think this is going to work. Sorry. Goodbye. -
Clans of the Citadel!
#18I didn't say there were clans. I said Guilds. And there were. I've lost the link but when I find it I will post it and prove the existence, or otherwise, of the guilds. -

I tell no lies. None. Not even small ones. Not big, fat, huge whoppers. At least not about this... -
Clans of the Citadel!
#20Those guilds were only classification systems, not actual guilds. The idea behind that (which died a fast hot death) was that you would click on the thief's guild and that would be a selection of all thief plots, items, etc.
A quick search was all it really was, and it never happened, hence it being a very early example of the Citadel. -
Clans of the Citadel!
#21Nice sig, Strolen- that's the Pixies, isn't it?
But anyway... This clans idea- it's not happening. We're not doing this.
And I'll tell you why-
Apathy.
And I'll tell you another reason-
Pointlessness
And I'll tell you a third reason-
Membership (that is, unsatisfactory membership) -
Clans of the Citadel!
#22Sure is the Pixies! Its from the Surfer Rosa album actually.
As for Clans... I am now
||Ancients|| Ancient Gamer
Clans, experience points and levels seem to be a huge bonus for a lot of gamers and may encourage some parts of the visitors to contribute. It is the competitive nature of humanity I guess. Perhaps clans could be positive if someone got membership within a certain guild or clan based on the quality and nature of their contributions? ( ||Elder Sages|| MoonHunter) Hehe.
I shared your immediate reservations for the clan/guild notion, but whenever I get biased, I force myself to find possibilities within that which I am biased against. This was the possibility I found.
Other possibilities? Objections? -
Clans of the Citadel!
#23Not sure if I will call them clans, but there will be little special bonuses (ie pics titles) that will appear for, say, a certain amount of posts in a certain section, amount of posts in an amount of time, and stuff like that. Just little nonsensical things like that. These will all be automatic and be based on your actions, not so much a peer review.
It is always an intersting idea when it comes up though. We seem tend to shy away from the 'club' type thing which guilds or clans may represent since the site is more built on the freedom of sharing. We have never said no to any of these things, they usually just don't get the support that would make them useful/helpful. I also want to stay away from them being a significant part of the site. A fun extra is as far as I want to go with them.
As always, if there is enough want, then I will do-est mine bestest to make everybody happy. -
Clans of the Citadel!
#24So,would it be safe to assume that Snipersky's idea has been given the green light? -
Clans of the Citadel!
#25I don't think it was actually given a red one in the first place. -
Clans of the Citadel!
#26It was given a yellow, but then I think the whole lighting system failed, the streets ruptured, buildings collapsed and the world ignited in a brilliant flame. -
Clans of the Citadel!
#27Yeah...
Right...

...doesn't figure. -

#29*BUMPAGE*
Actually, I think this idea might be interesting to work with. Moon's expression of playtesters seems to me like that's the entire point. A bunch of people playtesting ideas by actually RPing them, and having some fun in the mix. I think it might also help those who read the RPs understand how certain NPCs, Items, ect. are supposed to be used.
Perhaps I'm just crazy. I've never put it past myself. x.x -
Clans of the Citadel!
#30No. Playtesting is what we are all doing anyways in our regular gaming. Competitive playtesting? What kind of caffine withdrawl are you dealing with? What other kind of chemical alterations are occuring?
We had one or two overzelous members who thought Clans for competive gaming would be a Good Idea on the site. I guess we have one more.
They were wrong. And so are you.
So competitive world building? How many NPCs can you generate in a 24 hour period? How many times can you post PIE in a single day.
Competitive playtesting? How many rule bugs can you find in a 24 hour period? How are you going to use every idea on the site in a single game?
And how are members going to meet and play everying? Okay www.rpgweb.com and others....
Until we get the Labrynth running so it will support several players at once this is a dead issue that has George Romero syndrome.

So leave it alone until that is up and running (and since that monkey is on your back) -
Clans of the Citadel!
#31Well gosh, I feel loved. I didn't even merit an original post. You just cut & pasted, then added some stuff to include me.
I'll get back to working on my Labyrinth then, though it ain't gonna be up and running anytime soon. Speaing of which, is the other concept for the Labyrinth dead, or just mostly?
