Grammatical issues
#1Maybe the admins should simply correct mistakes they find? A particularly bad instance of chatspeak could be reprimanded with a PM and corrected. That way we'd eliminate bad grammar without encroaching on the forum.

Hold on this thought....
#2Strolen and I are dealing with the issue tangentally. Sorry it had to spill over to the forum.
Fixing also brings up a few questions....
How much editiorial control do you want to exercise?
Once we start doing it, everyone will expect it. Do you want to do it ad infinatum? -

#3I think a really bad instance of something bad should be deleted.
I don't mind correcting an occassional *real* submission, but the forums are too much trouble. I vote for simply totally ignoring the post and if everybody did that then it would only be one annoying post (that could be deleted) instead of a slew of posts ragging on the one bad post.
I would even go to the extreme of saying immediately delete any horrible posts and save everybody the grief. Yes, the person might complain about his stuff being deleted but we can easily defend ourselves if we save it. Then if (when) they complain then we just PM the post we deleted and say fix it then.
Or maybe deleting it and PMing it to them and say this was deleted for unreadability issues, please correct it and repost.
Either way you look at it it will be a pain in the ass. Us correcting it will not solve the issue, no real incentive to up their quality. If we delete it maybe they will get the point and start actually checking their post before the submit it. Or they may leave the Citadel annoyed with us, either is fine with me. -

#4Oy, what a sharp argument in the "Travelling" thread. I think I should have deleted f.g.'s post, and all would be fine ;) . But now... it might handle a splitting. Did anyone PM him? I am now quite curious what he meant with that incoherent post. Or is it better not to ask?
As for myself, I am against editing of the posts of others, in most cases.
A1) Good idea, some typos. - No problem. May PM the author.
A2) Good idea, problematic spelling, or some eye-striking typo - May be promptly corrected by the Admins themselves. It is a kind of honour with some excellent ideas. Or PM the author.
(See elfkin's "...whore armor...", which is but no good idea, just a great example of a typo. Probably the reason why nobody corrected it...)
A3) Good idea, terrible spelling, no capitals used etc. - Rarely the case, it is most often a single idea that stands out from the mess. Maybe a candidate for the Rejects Database, returned to its rightful place once edited?
B1) Medium idea (what's that anyway?), few mistakes. - Ignore.
B2) Medium + problems. - There are currently many okey submissions. Editing all of them would be a waste of time. Ignore, or PM.
B3) Medium + terrible spelling or what. - Reject Database I think.
C1) Bad idea, good spelling. - We have those. "Use the Admin Forum, Luke!" Or Rejets. Or delete.
C2) Bad idea, more problems. - Admin Forum or into Rejects, or delete.
C3) A post of the type we all know, dread, and sometimes laugh about (in pure disbelief). Delete.
Oh, just one more thing. Maybe do some automation of Read Bad Post-Use One Of Those Spell Checking Websites-Send In A PM With All Mistakes Marked In Red To Author? Some way to manage this all with a few clicks for the disillusioned Administrator? May require considerable research and some scripting, but I don't want it tomorrow. ;) Something for the future...
