Hello
#1Not sure if I ever introduced myself here, so here it is.
I'm an illustrator from North Carolina looking to get into comics or creature/effects design. My major genre interests are fantasy and horror, but a good sci-fi story never hurts. I guess a little about my tastes...
Favorite RPG system:
GURPS
Books:
"Perdido Street Station" and "The Scar" - China Mieville
"Conan" - Robert E Howard
"Drawing Blood" and "Lost Souls" - Poppy Z Brite
"The Damnation Game" and "Everville" - Clive Barker
The "Dune" cycle - Frank Herbert
Asimov's Robot stories.
Comics:
"Poison Elves" - Drew Hayes
"Hellboy" - Mike Mignola
"League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" - Alan Moore
"Transmetropolitan" - Warren Ellis
"Kabuki" - David Mack
"Sandman" - Neil Gaiman
TV:
Anything by Joss Wheadon, especially Firefly.
Babylon 5
Discovery, TLC, Animal Planet and the History Channel
Film:
The Howling, Altered States, Labrynth, The Dark Crystal, Fight Club, Dark City, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Dragonslayer, Romero's Dead Trilogy.
Okay...I guess that's enough crap about me. -
Hello
#2"D'ARR!"
From above, a loud whistling sounds, and a massive reinforced barrel crashes down into the lawn. The reinforcement bands hold for a few seconds until buckling, and the entire set-up explodes, unleashing a tidal wave of foaming green liquid. A small figure rides the tidal wave outward and tosses Gottgen a frosty mug of foamy, salty, bubbly, green grog, filled from this very wave of the stuff.
The figure is a penguin in a ridiculous pirate outfit, complete with tattered jacket, floppy wide-brimmed hat, massive feather plume, rose-lensed goggles, and a wooden toy sword painted gold.
"Yarr! The reinforcement bands didn't work! Curses!" he says, and turning to Gottgen, "Yer' a man after me own heart, yeh' are! Welcome teh' th' Citadel!" -
Hello
#3Welcome to the Citadel. Please make yourself at home and if you have any questions, well, PM Strolen! :D -
Thanky thanky...
#4Thanks, Penguin, Haethar. Glad to be here. -
Hello
#5Ah, Dune!!!! Have you read his others, like the Santaroga Barrier, the Dosadi Experiment? I would DEEPLY advise this if you haven’t. Frank was a genius. I’m new here, but hi. -
Hello
#6Bah! The Dune books beat any of Herbert's other books, hands down.
I'm reading the Conan books right now. Fun, aren't they? -
