How Many Game Books do you have?
#1How hard core of a roleplaying gamer are you? How many game books do you have? (I have included PDFs and eBooks in this category as well). What is your oldest book and what is your newest book in your collection. If you are a freeform gamer only, then how many books on writing or egaming guides do you have?
Me. I have about 340 books, if you count multiple editions of games (first through 5th ed Champions for example) and ignore adventures and resource/ reference books. That might bump me up another 80 or so (a handful of adventures and a ton of reference)
My oldest is currently my first printing aDnD Players Handbook, GM's guide, and Monster Manual. These beat out my Fantasy Trip set by a few months.
My newest is Midnight from Fantasy Flight Games (Highly Recomended... Not just another DnD world) -
How Many Game Books do you have?
#2Um. I own five actual gaming books, but I can't remember how many separate systems I have on my computer. (For reasons I do not understand, I almost obsessively collect RPG material.) I have countless supplements, settings, and adventures. What else? Lots of utilities.
My oldest game would probably be Bostonia, now renamed as Runebearer, which I downloaded and printed about six years ago. My newest are my two Call of Cthulhu books, which I purchased three or four days ago. -
How Many Game Books do you have?
#3I have a few 3e D&D books, a Warhammer book for Tyranids, a races book for Dragonstar, but mostly Exalted books. The newest book I have is the Exalted Castebook: Eclipse. -
How Many Game Books do you have?
#4mine are all of 3rd edition dnd because so far it is the best that i have seen. -
How Many Game Books do you have?
#5Yeah, you and your Third Edition. -
How Many Game Books do you have?
#6Wow, e-books too?
On my shelf probably around 75 without actually counting them. I tend to give away ones I don't use anymore.
E-books...I have disks FULL of them.
Probably less then 10,000 but I pretty much have everything a newsgroup could push out in the entire DnD spectrum. Then I branched off to any and all modules I could find. I am definately a collector. I have over 30Gigs of saved crap that I peruse through when I am needing inspiration. -
How Many Game Books do you have?
#7Hard copy: about 15-20 (Various systems, including D6 Star Wars and Ars Magica!)
On CD: Um... about two cds worth of pdfs... -
How Many Game Books do you have?
#8I have about four CD's worth of D&D material, but I do not count those, as I only use the PDF's of which I have the original book as well.
(Yes I am one of those people that consider just downing the PDF theft.)
Other then that, I have a little over 60 books in just one system, but covering three releases of the system.
My first book was the AD&D players handbook, purchased somewhat like seven years ago. (edit) comming to think of it.... it must be many more years ago then seven when I ....... *ponder* (/edit)
My last book was actualy a set of books and the book I would like to mention from that set is 'Dynasties and Demagogues' by Atlast games.
If you are a D&D 3rd or 3.5 player, I would recommend this book. It has heaps of information and great ideas on characters that are not the "hack&Slash" type, but that actualy "live".
Mind you, I do own a couple of PDF's that I do not have a book to, as these where not published. These PDF'a are legaly free to distribute.

Ylorea -
Hmmm...
#9I put 26 - 50. I have plenty of PDF's, but no clue how many so I didn't count them.
Fully 20 of my books are GURPS, 8-10 White Wolf, 3 or 4 D&D, and some various things. -

#12hmm never actualy played before offline, i only use my computer, i don't really care about detailed rules and die rolls.
I just like writing stories and being apart of some one's story. -
How Many Game Books do you have?
#13Over the course of my life I've gotten around 100-150. A number of them have become lost and/or demolished, unfortunately.
However, due to the wonders of Ebay, my collection is slowly expanding once more. My current happiest thing is my acquisition of GURPS Cyberpunk, which is out of print. -
How Many Game Books do you have?
#14For those that want to have a look at my collection..... Now is not a good time to visit my site. Due to expansion, I have felt the need to "redecorate" the books section....
This redecoration is now in the stage of being executed....
I hope this will finish somewhere around the beginning of April.
since it is way past april already, it might be practical to note that the rebuild of that section has been finished.
I also have (even since then) aquired more books, so I am afraid I would realy have to change my vote to somewhere around ninty books
Yours, Ylorea -
How Many Game Books do you have?
#15I put 26-50. I haven't counted them all, but I have DnD 1e, 2e, 3e books, including modules, 2e for Vampire the Masquerade and 1e & 2e for Werewolf the Apocalypse.
OMG, I also have Palladium and Rifts books.... -
How Many Game Books do you have?
#16Lets see, oldest book?
Worlds Beyond, pub 1989. A small indy game with space exploration a percentile based character and rules system, but great charts for generating random star-systems and volumn based ship building.
Newest book
Exalted Players Guide, Exalted: The Sidereal, and Dark Ages: Fae. Got them all at the same time. Saves on shipping.
My collection.
I have all of the 2ed AD&D books plus three expansions for the monsterous manual. There is some weird stuff in those extra books. I also have the various players guides to the four basic classes, plus humanoids, and villians.
I also invested in 3.5ed through an online deal what wasnt bad. Gat all three core books, but not much past that.
All of the Exalted main books (Solar, Lunar, Abyssal, Sidereal, and Dragon-Blooded) as well as a few of the extra books. No caste or aspect books, not very interested in those.
Alot, and I mean alot of Vampire, Werewolf, Mage, Changeling, and Wraith. I've got most of the Year of the Lotus books (Book of 8 Million Dreams, Kindred of the East, Hengeyokai, etc) Also have all of the tribe books, a few tradition books and I love the Technocracy book.
I also have alot of Dark Ages books, including the Dark ages clan-books, and most of the core books as well. I get good bonuses at work.
Got a few 'other' books. Codex Tau, and Chaos Space Marines books, some indy game books rescued from a resale bin, Earthdawn, Shadowrun, some of that, some of this.
Ah, Battletech. I've got a few of those books, scenarios, technical read-outs, i've got all of those but the newest. Gotta love the Marauder evern though they stole it from Robotech. Havent touched any battletech in about three years though. Its just gotten silly.
That doesnt count any of the non-game books i have. There is alot of fiction, but also alot of historical, and factual works for inspiration, or trying to advance my writing career. Philosophy, mythology, herbology, coloring books, cook books, folktales and legends.
I am a bit of a bibliophile. Canya tell? -
How Many Game Books do you have?
#17Latest additions to my collection:
Codex Tyranids (Warhammer 40K)
Scavenger Sons (Exalted)
Games of Divinity (Exalted)
Gehenna (Vampire)
Apocalypse (Werewolf) -
How Many Game Books do you have?
#18Whoa!
Whoa!
Holy... No!
NOOOOOOO!
*Claws his face in horror*
How can this be?!
The majority of people don't have any RPG books?!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH! -
How Many Game Books do you have?
#19Lo and behold.....
It is those terrible people that actualy do not own books, but borrow them..... I hate that... Usualy you end up lending them a book and then after three years or so, it is returned to you with stains and other filth in between the pages....
Or maybe it is the hones group of people that have all illegal PDF's and so they basicaly are honest enough to admit they stole the book and so they do not realy own the book at hand....
I must admit it is rather strange to see people here that do not own a single RPG book in any format.
Perhaps they are not as bad as I first imagined, but they are the group of quiet players here that play rpg's as computer games. I gues you do not realy need a book when you just play computerbased RPG's.
Yours,
Ylorea -

How Many Game Books do you have?
#21How is Fair Folk Cap? I was thinking of getting it. -
How Many Game Books do you have?
#22Strange yet wonderful. Beware, though- it is similar in complexity to the Sidereals in some places. But yes, I would recommend it. :) -
How Many Game Books do you have?
#23Will definately have to check it out then.
Thanks Cap.
I just want White-Wolf to do the caste books for the Abyssals. -
How Many Game Books do you have?
#24Yeah. Wouldn't mind castebooks for Lunars, either- you know that they're kinda' my pet Exalted. -
How Many Game Books do you have?
#25I only have one complaint about the Lunars. They have a massive amount of charms and such for combat and defence, it is a nice touch for the more 'bestial' lunars but not much it you want something less bloody claws and snout.
I would like to see some more charms on a social level, and perhaps some more developement away from combat. -
How Many Game Books do you have?
#26Since I lasted posted here, I have purchased about 50 more games.
Here are the last 30 or so
Gurps 4th Ed - Worth It
Skull & Bones (Green Ronin) Worth it... and I dislike D20
Testament (Green Ronin)
Horizon: Virtual
Mind Shadows (Green Ronin) Worth it
Noir for Mutants and Masterminds
Iron Kingdom (LOVE IT!!!)
Fireborn (interesting, but nah)
Slayer's D20 (it was cheap)
Slane D20 (Also cheap)
The entire GearKrieg line (it was also cheap)
Gurps Alternate History Worth it... well almost. It was nice to have it all in one spot.
GOO's Tekumel (my life is complete)
Things I want to buy
Blue Rose -
How Many Game Books do you have?
#27Just today-
Tekumel (GOO)
Dragonmech (D20 but very innovative)
Some Dream Pod Nine book I don't remember (still being delivered)
And yes, I know, all across the internet, it has been discussed and re-discussed how the Lunars were made too much into combat monsters. And the discussion is correct- they have too many combat charms. There should be more into their mystical, shapeshifting nature. But that aside, I LOOOOOOVE them! -
How Many Game Books do you have?
#28To all of you with these cds full of PDFs and other eBooks, SHARE THE WEALTH MAN
I only have maybe 25 some books and want much much more. -
How Many Game Books do you have?
#29Hero Clix: You know, we should have a listing for Clix of all kinds (Hero, MageKnight, et al )
I managed not to become addicted to Magic the Gathering (back in the alpha run days). So I never had the hunting/ hounding/ must collect every card in the set mentality.
The only ccg I ever found was L5R which was a better game because initially it was totally balanced and completely limited. (In all these years, there has only been one slightly broken card and that was because of the story line changes). I enjoyed it, but backed away when I saw that I was not as SERIOUS as the rest of the l5r players. (L5R players = fantatics, there seems not to be any casual ones).
But then clix came. I became a collectable game addict.
I am a huge comic fan, so I open the little bubble packs with total glee... anticipation about what character I might get... thinking about the various story lines associated with them... thinking how I can use this as a miniature (any pretense of playing the new Marvel Game completely went away after reading and rereading the rules)... thinking about the paint... the sculpt... loving the concrete expression of comic goodness... my preciousssssss..... errr.. yah well. You get the idea. -
How Many Game Books do you have?
#30Most of my game books were destroyed in a fire some years ago, but I've built it back up to just under 300 books. My oldest is Star Frontiers from '82, but admittedly that copy is a replacement purchased two years ago. The most recent book is Death: The Pale Horse, which currently exists only as a single copy, which is being stress-tested to ensure that I've got the bindings right. -
How Many Game Books do you have?
#31my oldest book would have to be my twilight 2000 core rulebook from the 80's
I also have the warhammer 40k rulebook, wepons book, and a newer (the black one with revised rules) rulebook and an imperial guard codex.
I got sick of using other people's books so I finally got the 3.5 ed. player handbook, DM guide, and monster manual. I also have the epic level handbook, the complete rogue suppliment, and the FR Underdark suppliment.
I also have many rp e-books, folders and folders of them, and a few CD's worth of DnD quests. And I have a couple notebooks of DnD campaign notes and a couple of character journals. I also have a full notebook (five subject) of my NWN character's journals, encounters, and important events (not to mention novel-like backstories  ) -
Re: How Many Game Books do you have?
#32Somebody stole all my RPG books , just thinking about it makes me really upset. :( :( :( -
Re: How Many Game Books do you have?
#33While I don't hate D20, it is not my favorite system... so why have I bought so much of it recently.
D20 Future, to back up my D20 Modern
D20 Game of Thrones (I like this one too)
Spycraft 2.0 (which is looking less and less like D20 every edition)
Gurps Supers, which is not D20, but the only non D20 game I have purchase recently. -
Re: How Many Game Books do you have?
#34I kick myself everytime I think about my past collection of books. I had an old navy footlocker, large enough to put a dead body in if you folded their legs up just slightly. It was rather large.
I had it full of old DnD books, Traveller, and suppliments. I threw it out because my then, fiance was tired of her throwing stuff away and I wasn't. So I got real upset and chunked the entire chest. There was probably a good $450.00 worth of stuff back then. Today it would undoubably be worth more. I had an original box set of 1st Edition DnD.
Now I own approximatly 10 core books between:
Vampire 1st Edition
Vampire 2nd Edition
Vampire: Dark Ages
Vampire: Inquisition
DnD 1st Edition Players Handbook
DnD 2nd Edition Dungeon Masters Guide
DnD 3rd Edition Players Handbook
L5R 1st Edition
L5R 2nd Edition, every clan book, 8 I think.
Call of Cthulhu 2nd Edition
Palladium Fantasy to include two source books.
The box set of DnD Planescape. Damn I have a lot of DnD stuff sincei hate it so much.
As for PDF files...
Serenity
The Book of Tricks and Traps
A Magical Society: Guide to Monster Stats
DnD Weapons of Legacy
DnD Unearthed Arcana
DnD Monster Manual 3
DnD Monster Manual 1
Forgotten Realms: Sons of Gruumsh

Re: How Many Game Books do you have?
#35Hmmm, ever since my last post I bought only more and more books. I have expanded my D20 collection (sorry moonhunter) to include most of the swashbuckling books by AEG.
And now that I have had a look at some information at www.7thsea.info I am looking into buying the original 7th sea books. However I pretty much do not like the fact that the original books are no longer sold, or better they are no longer printed, so I might have to be forced to buy the PDF version.
To me that stinks... I absolutly prefer old fashioned books, you know, the paper ones that you can hold and read in bed.
With kind regards,
Ylorea -
Re: How Many Game Books do you have?
#36TO HELL WITH PDFs! Let physical media once again reign! -
Re: How Many Game Books do you have?
#37Luddite! PDFs, when professionally or near professionally done, are just as valid as "real books". Hero Games and SJ Games are selling not only downloadable PDFs, but CDs with PDFs on them.
I am not defending the "freebie crap" of somewhat done stuff that populates much of the PDF/ File world. But complete games or products that have reached the bar of professional or near professional games... they count. There is a thriving business (which is good for gaming) of electronic format games (DriveThrough Gaming and the site from rpg.now). Most people do not have access to friendly local game stores. And many FLGS DO NOT carry much of the alternate, or let me be blunt here NON D20, RPG material on the market. They are counting on the WotC zombies to snatch up anything with that D20 logo. When I have to go order online just to SEE new Hero Products (5th largest rpg producer) and some SJ games (2nd largest), we have to acknowledge that PDF is a valid format. -
