    The Eight Legged Librarians

Superficially resembling driders, the ELL are the distant spawn of Atlach-Nacha, the Great Old Spider God. They have arachnid bodies, and use their mandibles as humans use their hands. Rather than having the upper torso of a drow, they have the head and partial torso of a human protruding from their thorax. This can be minimal, not much more than a face studded with too many eyes to the lurid, a lovely lass, breasts exposed, extruded from the chitinous carapace of a mottled brown and black spider. They are caretakers in some parts of the library, predators in other parts, and they create their webs not from silk, but from hints, scattered pages of musty tomes, and the promise of greater secrets in the next section of the library. The victim doesn't fall into an actual web until they are quite far from any sort of assistance, in a fallen and decrepit section of the library.

    A'as, Patron of the Library

A'as is the closest thing the Library has to a true guardian and protector, and much of the library exists because of the relatively weak terrestrial god A'as. His symbol is a rearing pegasus, and he is a patron and protector of books, literature, and libraries. His power is weak, so he can generally only move things to Celaeno after they have been destroyed in their original location. He was once worshiped by the Hittites and other Mesopotamian religions as a patron god of humanity, but fell out of favor to more violent gods and goddesses. As a weak god, A'as seldom interacts with others in the library, and instead focuses his energy on saving literature and writings that are being destroyed.

    The Heaps

The Heaps are great moldering mounds of books, some as tall as regular houses. These books all shared a common fate, they were burned. Crawling through the Heaps can give treasures to those who can divine where to look, it can also give you 5,000 copies of the same book. The real reveal is the common thread of the books being burned, showing the ideas that sentient races would rather destroy than let spread. This can be obvious, such as burning Black Books of Hell, or it can sad, with lit promoting peace and equality being torched.

    The Library of Alexandria

An ancient section of Celaeno, the Library of Alexandria is a huge chamber made of ornate marble and has tens of thousands of papyus scrolls, wood panel pamphlets, and writings preserved in paintings and tapestries. This is generally a safe place, one under the protection of the Pegasus, and only the most brazen of monsters would threaten it, and only the most daft of patrons would try to steal from it. A'as would protect this place if threatened. The works collected here are among the most complete records of human kind (prior to the it's destruction)

The Scribes of Alexandria - the wraithly curators of the library, the Scribes were slain when the library was sacked, and were saved by A'as. They tend the collection, and maintain the wards around their section. Those who visit the library find the scribes fearsome magical opponents, or kindly teachers. They are willing to teach anyone who brings them the gift of worthy literature, and can teach ancient languages, how to properly write, and how to read dead languages. Their skill has grown over the years that they have been here, and while they might not know very much about modern Earth, they are aware of temporal trends and pop entertainment in media, ala they can't tell you about who won WWII, but they know about Harry Potter.

    The Kiln Stacks

The Kiln Stacks are a very hot, very dry section of Celaeno where ancient stone and clay tablets are kept. They are stack on top of each other, as their weight would eventually shatter or buckle the stoutest wooden shelves, and eventually do the same to metal. The tablets are poorly ordered, and going through them takes patience, upper body strength, and water to stay hydrated. Many of the most heretical of records are hidden in the Kiln Stacks, the texts describing star gods, fallen vampires, ancient pre-human races, and such.

The Dry - the Dry are victims of the Kiln Stacks, absorbed by forbidden knowledge, they didn't mind themselves, and they perished. The irony of learning the true name of god, or the meaning of the universe, and to die for a lack of a drink of water. The Dry are tattered mummies, and they are driven by hate and anguish, because they found what they sought, or almost found it, and then pointlessly, stupidly, died. They will suck the moisture out of those they catch in the Kiln Stacks, and will steal their gear and their clothing, and will try to leave the stacks. The Dry cannot, though, as their animating force is tied to the very cursed tablets that brought them there to begin with.

    Irezumi, the Collector

A patron goddess of tattoos and body art, Irezumi was drawn to the Library of Celaeno centuries ago. The goddess, like A'as, is not a particularly powerful one, but her area if interest is a gruesome one, and she needs a private place to collect it. Irezumi inspires people and artists to make tattoos, and when their time comes, she appears to them, and removes the tattoos she inspired. This is fatal as Irezumi removes the skin of the host to make a canvas of it.

This wasn't horribly relevant to the library until it became a popular trend for people to have literature written across their skin. The mythos leaked out, in nightmares and dreams, and was turned into ink. Irezumi collects this.

Her favorites are arcane and mythos symbols and markings of hermetic magics.
