Valadaars Link of The day
#1Random stuff I trip over. Unusually will be stuff I think could be applicable in some way...
For today:
"The chance of an animal gaining human consciousness is probably slim; their brains are just too different, and much smaller. Even so, as a precaution, researchers working with farm-animal chimeras haven’t yet permitted any to be born..."
Something from the Cosmic era? Some Secret of NIM stuff? Nope. Reality.
http://www.technologyreview.com/news/545106/human-animal-chimeras-are-gestating-on-us-research-farms/
More Quotes:
“What if the embryo that develops is mostly human? It’s something that we don’t expect, but no one has done this experiment, so we can’t rule it out.”
...
"Nakauchi says that as a matter of convenience, most of the iPS cells his team has been placing into animal embryos are made from his own blood, since recruiting volunteers involves too much paperwork."
Nothing could possibly go wrong here, right? :)

Re: Valadaars Link of The day
#3I wonder if a human animal chimera would gain sentience in its own right or if it would just turn into a furry that hangs out on tumblr...
If it's the former, I would be all for that. Who wouldn't want a profound existential conversation from a different perspective altogether, or just a talking doge for the heck of it.
Odds are, there would emerge some kind of Martin Luther Pig creature though and we'd all have to turn veginarians... -
Re: Valadaars Link of The day
#4Yep. There is surely a sub or story in that line of thought.
Todays does as well. Perhaps this could be a path to lichhood, or a new type of undead:

#6Just wow. Can you imagine what thoughts and images dance around inside this guy's head every day? Wow.
So umm, this is leading to me begin 5-7 new in-works.
I wonder if he'll let me use the images in the subs they inspired :D -

#10Back on the ball. You can file this one under Worldbuilding, Sci Fie
http://www.geologypage.com/2015/12/forbidden-substances-on-super-earths.html
Basically, because of the gravity being higher, pressures underground are correspondingly higher and minerals impossible to produce on earth (outside of lab) may be present on these worlds.
Need some Unobtanium Alloy? You might be able to get it here. Have fun leaving that gravity well though.

But here is a cool one. A site that proports to map all of the fossil finds in the world. You can even filter by timezone, type.
